In the ever changing world, the most drastic change of all is the time period of the civil rights movement. There’s many historical figures that emerged from this time period, and one of those figures being Martin Luther King Jr. MLK was known for being an incredible spokesperson, a kind, loving man, and was a strong leader for nonviolence to achieve equal rights for Black Americans. King was an incredible individual and helped many African Americans receive their equality they rightfully deserved. King achieved this through speeches, on being his famous “I have a dream” which he said in front of thousands on August 28th 1963 at the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C. He also wrote the letter from Birmingham jail when he was arrested in Alabama on April 16th 1963, which put an end to fallacies said by eight Alabama clergymen.

“This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.” The way King said that just made people feel bad about the way blacks were treated. King later said “This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of " life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." He was an advocate for equality between all races and a civil and economic rights Activist. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, and passed on April 4, 1968. His father was a pastor at a catholic church and was the co-pastor. Martin went to school in Georgia and he graduated from school at the age of fifteen. He attended Morehouse College, which is a distinguished Negro in Atlanta from which both his father and grandfather had graduated. After three years of theological study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, he was awarded the B.D. in 1951.

Two score and 13 years ago people with colored skin were being segregated for everyday activities like drinking from a water fountain and going to school. Martin Luther King and many others were tired of not getting the treatment they were promised as a whole, so Martin Luther King wrote his famous “I have a Dream” speech, to address the problem that was sweeping the nation. He wanted to persuade the nation to treat Black people with equality and respect. The black population was not going to rest until they received their rights that they were promised when Abraham Lincoln said the “Emancipation Proclamation” . King has a dream and has faith that one day everyone will be equal, everyone will have rights, and that there will be everlasting

Martin Luther King Jr. helped us realize that segregation and poverty are wrong. He also helped us realize that we should treat people the same. No matter race, color, or gender. He has impacted our everyday lives with the Civil Rights Act and his “I Have a Dream…” speech. He is an important man with an important history.

Martin Luther King Jr. positively affected the world by becoming the leader of the civil rights movement and bringing racial acceptance to the U.S. through nonviolent protest. King was very inspired by India’s revolutionary civil rights leader, Gandhi.

For instance King states “One hundred years later the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land.” (King). This quote accentuates an existing feeling of guilt towards those who remained ignorant to the purpose of the entire Civil rights

Martin Luther King tells how African Americans are treated “America has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient Funds”. King is trying to say that Americans signed the Constitution and the declaration of independence saying that “black men as well as white men would be guarantee the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” but yet it’s not put in to place. “Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and the Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote.”
