Memorial Day can be considered as one of the Federal Holidays, which is celebrated in the memory of thousands of militants who died for the country. People in every corner of United States celebrate the Memorial Day. They also consider it as a good day to stay away from the hectic work schedule and go for a good cookout. However, the primary objective of having a Memorial Day is to honor and recognize all the sacrifices that have been done by the military veterans, who are alive or dead. Initially, the Memorial Day was celebrated to honor the Union soldiers, who lost their lives while fighting in the Civil War. However, it became more popular after the World War I. The concept expanded and people started honoring the brave soldiers who lost their lives while fighting for any …show more content…
Then people started decorating their graves to honor them. During 1915, Miona Michael came up with the idea of wearing red poppies in order to honor the brave soldiers who died for the nation during the civil war. Moreover, money that was raised from selling red poppies were used in order to benefit the families of those soldiers. Memorial Day is not just an ordinary holiday. It is a fascinating victory day where we take time to remember the people who died for the nation. This is the best day of the year to visit the memorial places, which are located throughout the country. A large number of events are also being organized on the Memorial Day and you can think about taking part in them as well. Or else, we can simply prepare to go on a picnic or throw a party. However, it would be a good idea to bring a story of a brave soldier who fought for the country when you are throwing a party on the Memorial Day. On the other hand, you can invite a solider along with his family members to take part in it and enjoy the time. We can also go to the cemetery on the Memorial Day and place a flag and a candle on the graves of veterans. Then you will be spending the Memorial Day in a meaningful
Cinco de Mayo, which translates to the fifth of May, is a celebration to commemorate Mexico's triumph over the French in "La batalla de Puebla." The Mexican army prevailed as the underdog, being outnumbered by the stronger and well equipped French forces. Mexicans stood their ground and claimed victory on May 5th, 1862. This is why Mexicans in both Mexico and the U.S celebrate this historic victory.
I believe he deserves this holiday for many reason. First, he was brave, his braveness caused the rest of the army to stand with him. Second, Thomas was considered to be a war hero. Lastly, he was one of the most famous Confederate Generals. These are just some of the reasons I think Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson deserves his own holiday.
I have driven by the Makawao Veterans Cemetery but have never stop and paid my respects. I respect those like your friend’s grandfather and your own grandfather for serving their country in order for us to have our own freedom. I thought it was so sweet that your friend’s grandmother shared stories about the love she had for her husband. There is something I like about how the military cemeteries are mad and organize. They are so put together and nicely maintained and with the American flags these cemeteries just command respect.
Consider using a photo of them in their uniform so that others will know that they are a war veteran, even if they are just passing by the headstone and take a quick glance. Select A Shape For The Headstone Another option is to select a shape for the headstone that will show that they once served their country. This can be done by selecting a headstone that is in the shape of a flag, with the etchings also showing the stars and stripes to really make it stand out.
A memorial day for me was one Friday night at a dance at Flandreau Indian Boarding School in South Dakota. I went to this Boarding School, not knowing what to expect. My father had gone to this same Boarding School many years before I had. He graduated from there and I was hoping to do the same. Me and my very good friend of mine, we had the crazy idea to go to the school together to escape the realities of our home town.
We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11th to honor the men and women who served and is still serving our wonderful country. We shouldn’t honor a veteran just once a year but everyday because they are protecting us everyday. When we say the pledge in the mornings we should be thinking about our veterans and what they did for us. Many veterans we get to still celebrate with and some were not so lucky and didn’t make it back home to their loved ones.
By the early 20th century military commemorations and reunions were growing in popularity in the United States. Federal and state governments, as well as private enterprises, were purchasing large amounts of land to serve as cemeteries, reunion grounds and historical parks for the purposes of celebration and remembrance. This was especially true in the Southern United States, where Confederate memorial grounds and historical sites sprung up in considerable numbers after the Civil War and the contentious period of Reconstruction. However, the rise of commemorative sites and military reunions in the South often exacerbated racial and political tensions, and reiterated the problems of segregation. While at first this did not seem to be the specific
Do you have a veteran in your family and live in Kentucky? If you do then you must be bamboozled when Veteran's Day rolls around and you don't get to spend the day with them and thank them for their services to this great nation and preserving our freedom. Less than 1% of Kentucky's schools are on a delay or canceled. You may ask "But this is Veteran's Day one of the most important days to our nation!?! Should schools really be on regular schedule?"
Veterans day was originally called Armistice day. It got that name at the end of World War One. But the name changed to Veterans day some time after World War Two, to honor veterans from both wars. Every year, we celebrate Veterans day.
I see this holiday as a day to look back on Hawaii and its history, to realize the United States importance to Hawaii and finally a day to enjoy the Hawaii Nei.
Every year, since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed as a national holiday in the United States, in which we honor those who died while protecting our country. To me, Memorial Day is a time where we as a nation, are reminded that all of the freedoms and rights that we take for granted, came at the cost of men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our country. When Memorial Day befalls its designated date, I am reminded that people fought and died for my freedom and rights. I am reminded that if people didn’t fight for me and for this country, it wouldn’t be the great and prosperous country that it is. Therefore, I take pride in the fact that someone went to war and died to protect my freedoms.
“... O say does that star spangled banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Nearly every American can recite the final lines of our National Anthem. However, few take the time to truly contemplate the meaning of these words. When I hear these phrases, I think of the principles on which our country was founded: the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But perhaps more important than these rights are the defenders of them: our veterans.
Our American veterans epitomize the great values of what the United States of America was founded upon hundreds of years ago by our founding fathers, our democracy, the principles of freedom, liberty, and courage. Veterans Day is often overlooked by many as just a day off of school but it means much more than that. Veterans Day honors our pride for our veterans and remembers those men and women with respect.
There was a politically correct remembrance of the Confederacy in that men felt so strongly about their beliefs they were willing to wage war and die for them, many felt that should be honored. My own understanding of the South’s passion with the Civil War is much like Tony Horwitz, In that the War is so intriguing and interesting because it involves the country I live in and the beliefs that are so passionately felt to this day. Born and raised in California I believed racism to be dead and the surprise I received moving to the panhandle of Texas was discomforting. The Civil War has a unique way of luring
It is a day that is set aside to remember and honor those who have died, according to the University of New Mexico. That day represents the day before Lent and is celebrated as well. Another notable day is September 16th, which marks Cinco de Mayo the day the Mexican Military had a victory over the French in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is also celebrated in the United States more than it is in Mexico.
