Meriwether Lewis was one of the leaders of the Lewis and Clark expedition. He was the governor of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis was one of Thomas Jefferson’s most trusted friends to get his money from the government and to deliver something to Thomas Jefferson. During the journey ,Jefferson stopped at Robert Grinder’s inn to rest while James Neely apparently went to look for the missing horses. There, Meriwether Lewis was murdered by a conspiracy. According to the Autopsy Report, Lewis was shot through the chest and the back of his head. There were 2 horse guns used. Fearing that Lymon would drive away on the motorcycle, Webster made the fatal decision to take his eyes off of Lymon for a brief second in order to shut the engine off. Once he did that, Lymon pulled his .40 caliber handgun and fired multiple shots into Webster’s face and chest at point-blank range. Webster was rushed to the hospital where he fought for his life for 8 days until finally succumbing to his injuries. Lymon was captured later that night by police and was charged with First-Degree Murder. In his interrogation, Lymon told the deputies guarding him to tell Webster’s family that he was sorry for killing the officer.
