Civilians worked hard to create Camp Kearny, building roads, rails, sewer, water, gas and electric systems, constructed so fast a motor division and a cavalry unit with 20,000 horses and mules moved in by June. Others joined in making Camp Kearny a more hospitable place. Ellen B. Scripps of La Jolla donated $15,000 for library books; the YMCA set up a hostess house at the New Southern Hotel. The relief camps left them isolated from society and deep in the wilderness. When they rebelled for better treatment at the camps in cities or towns, the government used violence against them and turned down their requests. Even when the unpopular relief camps were shut down, the government did nothing to aid them which left many roaming the streets for work. R. B. Bennett created these camps to avoid communism, however he could have done so by less harsh treatments. Canada may have been facing a harsh time which is understandable however.

Jamestown was the first permanent colony in America, and it was located in Virginia, up the Chesapeake Bay. It took many deadly years to form with threats all around the colony, but it was able to survive.

The Scottsboro Boys is the tale of nine innocent young black men accused of rape by two white women. Tome’s production of Scottsboro is amazing and heart-wrenching. Haywood Patterson, the only Scottsboro boy to die in jail, strives to always tell the truth because of past trauma, and Tru Verret-Fleming portrays Patterson perfectly, his acting leaves nothing to be desired. The choreography throughout the musical is unbelievably graceful and thoughtful. Britton Mauk’s set design has a simplistic but timely approach, which helps the audience pay attention to the show, rather than elaborate set pieces.

Although, not all aspects of these camps were as ‘holy’ and pure as one would imagine. Those who acted out of line, drinking and being rowdy, were “struck down” by the pulpit. Even still, the camper’s intentions were good, fostering the rural societies to raise morals, improve lifestyle, and ended up heavily affecting the South. The Civil War prison camps were very important in the Civil War because they were responsible for claiming thousands of lives from both sides. What were these prison camps used in the Civil War? They were places where each side would keep most of their Prisoners of War, or more commonly known as P.O.W.’s, incarcerated. The camps were usually coastal fortifications, old buildings, existing jails, or barracks enclosed with high fences. Conditions at these camps were very harsh and the mortality rate, or the chance you have of getting out alive, was on average 27%.

Jesus Camp Jesus Camp is a documentary detailing the life styles of evangelical Christian children. It provides the audience with insight into the indoctrination of youths into an intense training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to become active participants in America's future. The film focuses on the idea that a revival in America is eminent with significant leading roles being assumed by children. Therefore, they must prepare themselves for this war to come as well as prepare others who have yet to be brought into the faith.

The founding fathers of the United States built America on the ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and this applied to each and every person living in the country- not only to a specific racial group. Slavery was abolished with the defeat of the Southern Confederacy in the Civil War, leading to the Era of Reconstruction, in which the primary focus was to reunite the nation and promote of rights of former slaves. Africans Americans were not as free as Whites during this period. Although African Americans were free individuals during the reconstruction period, they did not have complete freedom as their rights were extremely limited due to mistreatment from punishment, segregation, and racism by white supremacists.

Oklahoma is home to many Native American tribes that once flourished throughout the country and still have an important presence and history in our state.
