Something Wicked This Way Comes: Overcoming Evil Many people have been in a situation where they have needed another person’s support either physically or emotionally. Having someone to lean on can make a challenge easier to overcome. Also knowing someone is there, gives the power to believe that a difficult task can be accomplished. Jim and Will have been best friends since birth. They do everything together and have never thought differently. Holloway lets the minutes, hours, and days tick by waiting for everything to be perfect. Jim and Halloway have to find ways to overcome their personal challenges to win against evil. They have to search for it during difficult times. Halloway is in the mirror maze and sees his reflection, which is of a very old man. This is sucking the life out of him, but Will says “Oh, Dad, Dad, I don’t care how old you are… I love You” (258). Will’s love for Halloway gives Halloway the boost he needs to be joyful for who he is. This experience brings Will and Halloway closer together. Halloway is determined to not allow Will to become like him, a person who hides in a library all day, everyday. Out of love Halloway encourages Will to not give up on Jim. Halloway wants Will to overcome the evil of death for Jim; “Death’s funny, God damn it!... Will your Godawful voice! Damn girl soprano. Sparrow in a tin can. Jump, boy” (284)! Will has to dig deep to find the courage to act joyful. Will is not going to let evil take away the friendship between him and Jim. After Will started dancing and being goofy, he found joy from of his love for Jim. Will has become more independent and make his own choices, because of the evil situation Jim is in. The character Charles Halloway in the story Something Wicked this Way Comes, by Ray Bradbury is a wise man who struggles with doubt within himself while also supporting those around him against the evil that comes in the form of a carnival. Firstly, Charles Halloway is a janitor who works at a library and is depicted in the story as “a man with moon-white hair [and], a man with a winter-apple face”(Bradbury 12).
In the short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, a boy is born crippled and no one thought he would live. The boy lived however, and they named him Doodle. Doodle and his brother were very close and Doodle loved his brother and never wanted his brother to leave him alone. Doodle’s brother was ashamed to have a crippled brother so he attempted to help doodle become normal throughout doodle’s life in the story. Doodle loved his brother, even though his brother was very selfish in his reasons to help Doodle to become normal, and his brother realized how selfish and guilty he was when it was to late for Doodle in the end.

To give one’s evil side continuing hold indicates that there is a possibility the person in question would continue to make poor choices inasmuch as he feels he is limited to the label of evil awarded to him. In other words, forgiveness should be granted to a sinner in order to give him the opportunity to change, to ensure his wellbeing in the future. What if, however, the deed has been so enmeshed in the past that the future has already been altered forever? What if the situation has reached beyond the point of repair? The Jewish nation could have progressed into something so much bigger and greater had these families not been eradicated.
Even though Jim was never educated, he tells the story of Solomon. He talked about how Solomon had lots of children, so solomon did not see the real value of the children. This shows that Jim sees the deeper meaning of things by explaining what Solomon had

Two renowned classics both present darkness as a recurring theme in the protagonists lives. In the novel Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, two best friends, Jim Nightshade and Will Halloway encounter a carnival late October, a time that carnivals never come in their town. At first they refuse to believe that it is true but nevertheless, Jim with his curious and fearless personality convinces the fairly conservative Will that they should go explore it.
Doodle taught Brother the lesson that people mistreat the ones they love most. Even though Brother loved Doodle, he would push his anger on him, without thinking about it. He made Doodle touch the coffin that was made for him as an infant, because no one thought he would live. Brother did this just because he was frustrated “One day I took him up to the barn loft and showed him his casket”(4).
In Ray Bradbury’s, Something Wicked this Way Comes, William Halloway frequently expressed anxious and fearful tones due to his inexperience in dangerous situations. Will’s anxious tone is apparent when he and Jim stopped by the Theatre and he “…swallowed hard…” (Bradbury27) When someone has, “…swallowed hard…” (27) they are usually nervous and guilty, indicating anxiety. Will’s reaction at the Theatre demonstrates an anxious tone because he knew he wasn't supposed to be there and if he was caught peeking into a brothel he would be punished. Also, being found there would ruin his respectable reputation that he valued highly.
A complicated relationship between a father and son can be very frustrating for both people. The complications, however, generally dissolve or resolve themselves over time. In the novel Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, the main character, Will Halloway, and his father, Charles Halloway, share a troublesome relationship. The complications come from when Will tries to protect Charles from dangers and when Charles doesn’t believe he is a good father to Will. As the story progresses, the relationship changes from where it was at the beginning to the middle, from the middle to the end.
Life is affected by relationships, but when relationships aren’t existent, life seems to decompose. Realizing that his dad was beginning to be an old man, Will is suddenly realizing his dad isn’t forever, “It was always a surprise - that old man, his work, his name. That 's Charles William Halloway, thought Will, not grand-father, not far-wandering, ancient uncle, as some might think, but ...my father... Dad always seemed stunned when Will rose up before him, as if they had met a life time ago and one had grown old while the other stayed young, and this fact stood between...” (14).
Mac badly beat the boy who was encouraged to burn the barn, but then felt remorse for doing so. Jim, on the other hand, thought that it was absolutely necessary for Mac to have beaten the boy and told him not to feel sorry for what he had done, because he did what he needed to. At this point, it is clear that Jim has changed. Mac even said “I’ve seen men like you before. I’m scared of ’em.
During the film Will demonstrates anger as well as irritability in a short tempered manner. In a particular scene, Will becomes overwhelmed with anger after encountering an old classmate who bullied him in preschool. Such anger and irritability caused Will’s mind to become blocked during the violent act in which Will also assaults an office. The incident ultimately leads Will unraveling the root of the
