Phillip Givens Sara T. Egger ENGL 1302 26 February 2018 Guns Don’t Kill People, People Kill People What is gun control? How do we attempt to control it and to what degree? Do we make all guns illegal or only automatic rifles such as the AR-15 for example? What about the 2nd amendment and the constitutional right to bear arms? Debates on gun control are often frayed with heavy emotions and personal opinions. Not for lack of good reasoning, especially when statistics show that 40 percent of Americans know someone who was either fatally shot or committed suicide with a firearm (The Trace, 2017). However, before you form an opinion on statistics alone, try using simple logic and common sense. Imagine you’re out walking through the shopping mall or even perhaps the local neighborhood Walmart and you see an overly obese person. Someone so overweight that you must move out of their path because you both can’t fit side by side walking down the aisle at the same time. Have you ever thought to yourself, how can someone let themselves go on to gain so much weight? Whether it be from unhealthy eating, medical conditions, to just plain old bad genetics, the list of reasons why could go on forever. You could even rationalize it by thinking it’s the person’s fault for not exercising, eating junk food, or just eating too much
Heedless Flames: Bullets, Truly Controllable? “Did you know that 34 people are killed with guns every day in America?” (Wing). control is a term referring to the various laws and policies that regulate everything related to the use of firearms by civilians. The topic is a major controversy in The United States due to constant activities recently linked with the topic.
The shootings that have happened in schools throughout America over the past few months has divided Americans on what they need to do as a nation to stop additional shootings from occouring. Many believe that creating new laws on buying weapons by requiring background checks, holding adults liable for the actions of their kids and requiring safety devices on weapons to stop youngsters will stop these massacres in schools from happening, it 's a step in the right direction, however, it 's not good enough nor is it effective enough, America needs well regulated gun laws and the politicians must understand that the laws should be based on facts, not opinions. There are several problems that need to be looked at in order to determine which laws are necessary. According to a recent study, America has the highest amount gun related deaths every year in the world. “Germany, has 371 gun related deaths, France 255, Canada 165, the united kingdom 68, Australia 65, Japan 39 and America, 11,200”.
It’s Valentine’s day, many believe this holiday is about celebrating love and enjoying life, but for others the death of their child. Imagine sending your child to school thinking that they would be safe from any harm and to learn. In total there has been 290 school shootings across the United States of America since 2013. These children are traumatized seeing the death of their fellow classmates and for some, sibling(s), friend(s), or even best friend(s). These children were given a week in order to recuperate from this tragic situation they were put through.
A few days ago I posted that I wanted someone to purpose legislation that would stop the shootings, but allow me to keep my AR 15. I took the post down because the conversation went exactly where I didn’t want it to go, but predicted it would. Instead of proposals on legislation, I was having to defend my right to have an AR 15. Gun control advocates are demanding legislation, so I was hoping someone could come up with a proposal within the parameters I described.
Gun control is an issue in many aspects; it is a rights issue regarding the second amendment, a safety issue, a political issue, and a racial issue. In 2017 alone, there have been 5,300 gun- related deaths in the US, not including an approximate 22,000 due to suicide. With a higher rate of public shootings and massacres occurring in recent years, this topic has been of high debate. By prohibiting the purchase of firearms by civilians, you violate the 2nd Amendment of the US constitution, protecting gun ownership. Additionally, criminals will be undeterred by gun control laws.
Imagine enjoying a nice party at your local cabana, only for you to hear a loud bang, and look over to see your friend lying on the ground, dead. This problem you are facing is known as gun control, and is a issue that has faced the U.S for many years. gun control is the debate on whether or not laws around guns should be tightened or not. Today, I will prove to you what gun control is, who is affected by it, and what we can do to solve it. Gun control is a problem that tends to occur very often in the past few years, and is affecting the U.S very badly.
There just might be an opportunity to solve the problem of mass murders caused by disturbed individuals with guns. If we can get the politicians to stop talking long enough to listen. They may realize they are both wrong on the issue of gun control. Note how carefully I chose my words there. Guns do not kill people.
33,000 people are killed in gun related incidents, in United States of America alone every year. This is a very staggering statistic knowing that the U.S. is only one country out of the 195 countries in the world today. This is due to several reasons. Shootings are becoming more and more common, guns are getting easier and easier to find, but most of all, the second amendment has reigned supreme in gun laws ever since the founding of America in 1776. Some believe that this is a terrible amendment to have our country live by, this group supports enforcing gun laws or even abolishing guns all together.
The Second Amendment says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Gun rights has become the subject of intense political, social, and cultural battles for much of the last century. The pro-gun right side has asserted that the right to arms was absolute, and that any gun control laws infringed that right (Kopel, 2013). This right has been supported by the Supreme Court who has reinforced what has become the American consensus that the Second Amendment allows the right to keep and bear arms, especially for self-defense, and that it is a fundamental individual
When it all comes down to the use of guns, or any weapon against another, there is always three issues that most come across: do I actually have the nerve to go through with it, can I do this and be okay mentally, and can I truly put others lives before mine? These questions, these logical thoughts, are frankly the most important aspects to using any weapon against another. Even if it is in the intent to protect another, you still must consider these facets before doing anything that could bring more harm to others than aid. In relation to this, it shows that these same ideals process through teacher’s, as well as any adult’s, mind frame. Trusting someone not certified and trained thoroughly for an immense period of time with a weapon to protect young children and other adults would be putting the kids and the protector at risk.
Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.
Guns are a cost-benefit ratio along with everything else in this world. Guns don’t fire by themselves, so why do we need to outlaw guns when the gun doesn’t pull its own trigger? Instead, we need to work with the people using them. Gun laws are to keep people that aren’t supposed to have guns from getting guns and they are also in place to protect the people who have guns and give them the right to bear arms. Studies show that gun ownership has increased incredibly while at the same time crime has decreased to historic lows The second amendment says people have the right to bear arms and they can’t be taken away.
Gun control is the set of laws or policies that regulates the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearm by civilization. Gun control is a big issue in the US, there are some pros to being aloud guns but there is also a lot of cons. Guns are used for many different things, protection, warm hunting, and the evil some people have. If you look at what happened in Los Vegas, you will see that there are crazy people in the world and they need to be limited on what they are aloud to get. Many people were hurt that day because there was no control on the gun.
Since the begining of America, the Founding Fathers wrote the strong-standing Bill of Rights with amendments to protect the country that had just recently won their freedom, but one amendment has been the top theme of controversies for centuries. Gun laws offend the Bill of Rights in so many ways and they prove ineffective. Gun Laws are relevant due to thousands of deaths and self-protection. The argument goes on but without guns there is militia, one of the main intents of the Second Amendment. These simple rules can reduce deaths, proven by millions of influential people.
Brittney Radley Mr. Bredemeier English II October 15, 2015 Title Do you believe that guns kill people or that people kill people? I believe people kill people. Due to this statement and the stigma surrounding it, people debate on gun control.
