Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. Many citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would reduce the threat of crime. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.

Gun control problems Nowadays, we can hear the crimes related to guns from time to time, and each of them is scarified and influential. For example, the accident happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School leads to 20 deaths for primacy school students and 6 deaths for staffs. It is hard to imagine what degree of sadness in their family may suffer. In this way, many people think the government should have stronger gun control regulations.

According to the CDC, “Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually. Gun Control is a set of laws that controls the use of guns by civilians. The Gun Control Act was signed as October 22, 1968 but was updated in 1993. As of February 23, 2018 seventy percent of people favor stricter gun laws and twenty-seven oppose of them. I believe that the Gun Control Laws should be stricter here around the United States because almost everyday something bad is happening by the use of a gun.

Some might argue that the US is one of the greatest countries in the world, but compared to others, it's one of the worst when it comes to gun control. It has become apparent that the gun control policies aren't as strict as they should be, as everyday in the US, an average of 36 people are killed at the hands of guns and more than 32,000 people are killed annually. Guns violence impacts society in many ways. Statistics show more people have been killed by guns than all the American wars since 1968 and it's estimated that 280 million people currently own a gun in the US. A country where 280 million people running around with firearms that cause fatal harm is incredibly alarming.

Gun Control Gun control has become a polarizing and controversial issue around the globe. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.

Citizens of the United States are promised the the right to bear arms in the Constitution, and by applying gun control laws takes away that same right. Crime is high enough in cities with very few laws pertaining to gun control, but taking guns away from people who are registered with license will not solve the problem either. Placing more limitations on gun owners, particularly responsible gun owners, will not reduce gun violence.

The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.

In our country we tend to blame our mass shootings and homicides on guns, but without a human behind it guns are harmless. Instead of banning these firearms all together, which may only cause an uprising in illegally owning guns, why don’t we strengthen our gun control laws? By banning people the right to carry and own a gun, we are restricting them of their basic rights. If we increase background checks, insist on mandatory classes and shooting practice, requiring safe and secure gun storage, and engaging in legal and responsible gun dealers.

Ever since the inception of this country 240 years ago, guns have been an integral part of the American identity; a sense of lawlessness, individualism, personal autonomy and freedom. They were the tools that liberated us, and gave us independence over a tyrannical, unrepresentative empire. However, in more recent years, these tools have been used more and more frequently in mass shootings, some of which are occurring at schools, targeting teachers and children. Since the infamous shooting at Columbine High School 19 years ago, we have had several shootings at schools, and we tend to get “thoughts and prayers”, a gesture with good intentions, but little actual progress made. Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.

The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.

Imagine sitting in a classroom laughing at a joke your friend made, or planning on going to the movies after school, or even listening to someone’s persuasive speech essay. When suddenly someone bursts through the door with an automatic weapon in hand. You and your friends run and hide in the corner of the classroom, you are all afraid that you will never be able to see the faces of your friends, teachers, or family members ever again. How could something like this happen you may ask? It happens often because of how lenient gun laws are in America and something needs to change.
