The athlete’s say they aren’t being overpaid, but people in other professions disagree with that statement. I, on the other hand, I agree with the athlete’s. They are not being overpaid. These athletes are some of the world’s biggest role models to the younger generations. Many kids grow up playing sports striving forward in life just because of what an athlete does on TV to “entertain.” Take David Ortiz for an example. David is a DH for the Boston Red Sox, he is a future Hall of Famer and is statistically proven to be the best DH that baseball has ever had. He grew up in a small village with a family who was struggling just to keep food on the table. Even though David lived in such a harsh surrounding, he never let that get to him. He went from living in that small village to being one of the biggest …show more content…
There are an enormous amount of kids and even adults who live in the Dominican facing the same problems as he did as a kid and look at him as an example to keep striving forward. Now, as many people believe all these athletes are getting paid for is to entertain people; that’s not exactly a true statement. In more cases than not the analysts and people around the world fighting against athletes saying that they are being overpaid and that they don’t deserve what they are actually given because they think that all they do is to earn their paycheck is to entertain others by playing a sport. In “Athletes and Compensation”, the article argues about the salary of athletes in the United States, and whether or not they are paid a substantial amount. The author discusses the average salary for each professional sport, and also the revenue collected from the athletes as well. The article also informs the reader of the reasons why the author believes the athletes need the salary they receive. Throughout “Athletes and Compensation”, the author utilizes the rhetorical strategies of logical appeal, emotional appeal, and tone to support his argument that athletes are not overpaid whatsoever. To begin, the author uses logical appeal multiple times throughout the article to persuade the reader that athletes should not have their salaries lowered.
Although, what they fail to realize is they lose sight of what is important. That is, it is important for their children to enjoy the sport and for the parents to not get caught up in the hype that the child will one day be a professional athlete. They are kids; they need to be able
If a player spends all of his salary while playing in the NFL there is a good chance they will go broke after football. Many athletes’ parents express to them that they need to save their money, but that doesn’t always work out. In today’s society, many are judged by what they own, not by what they want, and that can make it difficult for these people to listen to their peers telling them to do all of this
Between Tv deals, ticket sales, and jersey sales there is plenty of money to go around in college athletics, and it is time that the NCAA steps up and compensates athletes. College athletes are stuck in a brief conflict where they think they deserve to be paid just like the pros do. They consider their sport as a job and think they deserve to be paid just like the coaches do. Colleges make a lot of their money through the sports department. Ticket sales are a big way colleges bring in big money.
College athletes put in a lot of time, effort, and work into the sport they’ve played since they were young, but they aren’t getting paid for it. These student athletes deserve to be paid because they put in countless hours of hard work and balance sports with school work. The first reason athletes in college do deserve to be compensated is because they don 't have time to fit in work with a school and athletic schedule. College athletes don’t have time to get a real job. Student athletes have a very busy schedule, they don’t have time to fit in a job.
After dissecting the dilemma of payment for college athletes, one may discover that oftentimes the only incentive college athletes receive is a full athletic scholarship to the college/university, as opposed to a salary. There must be a reason as to why the college athletes do not receive a salary even though they generate billions of dollars for the NCAA. There are numerous sources illustrating pros and cons regarding whether or not college athletes deserve to be paid. Some argue that athletes should be paid because they are forced to endure unhealthy environments and unfair treatment, struggle through the “plantation system”, want support for themselves, etc. Opposers of this argument state that athletes should not be paid because of financial irresponsibility, education equaling money, university offering more than education, loss of passion for the game, etc.
The ones that become professional athletes have worked from a young age and put in thousands of hours practicing which goes along with the old saying “Time Is Money”. These players sacrifice their bodies and spend hours in rehab or taking pain medication because of it. That kind of strenuous activity all the time puts strain on your body and athletes pay for that in the future. Athletes also lose most of their privacy due to the media. Athletes have to do countless numbers of interviews to keep the people happy.

Never did the thought cross my mind of receiving a salary before making it your career. After researching the topic, authors such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ryan Swanson, and Ekow Yankah all represent different viewpoints on the controversial topic whether or not college athletes should be paid. People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
They don't only sacrifice family also time they could be out doing better things but for some athletes they love what they do. It's not only businesses paying the athletes, but we the consumers pay for their salaries by paying for tickets to the game. People buy the shoes and shirts and jerseys named after them. Some of that money should go to the athletes. Athletes are also in ads and commercials for more than just the sport they play.

Athletes are paid more than very important jobs such as surgeons, teachers, and even the president! Athletes don’t even do very important things, they merely entertain fans in an arena. Do they save lives, educate our future, or run our country? No, they don’t. Finally, an athlete's salary is more than an average American household makes in a whole decade.
Professional athletes are extremely overpaid for the “jobs” that they do. They only entertain for a living and get paid millions of dollars per season. Each sport is different in how they pay their athletes, and the difference in salaries from one player to another can be in the tens of millions of dollars. These athletes are paid for jobs that they only do for a certain number of games and do not even play the games over the course of an entire year. In most professional sports, they play in games for only a few months and then have a few months off.
