Have you ever wanted to live in Alaska and travel all through the Yukon delivering mail, panning for gold, or go hunting for moose? In the adventure novel Call of the Wild by Jack London, the main character Buck goes from pampered pup to wild beast, Buck travels around Alaska going from city to city, fighting to survive in the dangerous Yukon. Slowly throughout the book, Buck’s permeative instincts come out and isn’t like a house dog. He becomes tougher and learns how to hunt, dig holes in the snow to sleep in and learns to never get knocked down in the fight. All throughout the book, Buck slowly turns into a wild dog and lets his inner wolf come out, one way he does this is he digs a hole and learns that he 's not going to have a warm bed anymore.

In the novel, Call of the Wild written by Jack London, the actions and personalities of Buck’s many owners are all very unique. Buck is a strong and courageous dog who over time become mature and independent through his experiences with all of his different owners. Buck has been through a long cycle of being bought and sold by different men. There have been many men Buck serves under, but there has been no one like John Thornton. John Thornton is Buck’s savior.

Just like Buck, he was taken and put to work. Just like them everyone is faced with these moments. They may not be like what they were faced with, but everyone needs to persevere at sometime in life. In the book, Buck is taken and sold into a tough condition.

He gets beaten when trying to fight the man in the Red Sweater, who taught him the law of Club and Fang, which is a law on how to survive, and watches a dog die in front of him. Buck is also starved when with Perrault and Francois because he gets small rations with the food he eats. He learns he has to fend off dogs for his food, he also becomes sneaky and cunning by stealing food from Perrault and Francois and blaming another dog for his own felony. Buck is even overworked by a Scottish man, and sold to a new group, that can’t get organized. He receives beatings from this new and inexperienced group, named Hal, Charles, and Mercedes and when almost beaten to death gets saved by John Thornton.

Buck is being called into the wild. His life events changed who he was and sent him free in spirit and body. Once Thornton was kill Buck was able to be free and just be a wild dog with the others (napierkowski). In my opinion, this book shouldn’t have been in the category of banned and challenged books.

Jack London’s novel The Call of the Wild explores the premise that survival depends upon one’s ability to adapt to their environment. Stolen and sold to sled drivers during the Yukon gold rush, Buck, a strong and loyal dog, longs for his simple yet enjoyable life back home in California. In order to survive in his new and harsh environment, Buck must evolve from his experiences and return to his primordial ancestry by answering the call of the wild inside him.

Buck survives to embrace life at the end of a book informed by death as the horrifying, rhythmic reflex of an entire order of things. Life in The Call of the Wild was a survival built on the death of other living creatures.

In the novel of the Call of the Wild, Buck tried to adapt to his new and difficult life. He was forced to help the men find gold; he experienced a big transformation in him. At the end, he transformed into a new and different dog. Buck went through physical, mental and environmental changes. In my essay, I talked about how Buck was like at the beginning, what he changed into, and how he was forced to adapt his new environment, and underwent these changes.
