He was considered a necrophiliac, a cannibal, and was a convicted pedophile. Dahmer mainly targeted young men and boys between the ages of 14 and 33. Most of his victims were African Americans, as he once said he hated black people, but not all of them were. All of his killings were in Wisconsin, and one in Ohio, being his first ever murder.

Jeffery Dahmer… Was He Mentally Ill or Not? Sydney Bell Butler County Community College Psych 201: General Psychology Master Mr. Vaughn Apr 25, 2023 Abstract Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, was an American serial killer and sex offender who murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was known for dismembering his victims and engaging in acts of cannibalism and necrophilia.
Jeffery Dahmer also known as the Milwaukee cannibal was a notorious sex offender in America. He was charged for rape and murder of 17 young boys. Dahmer would also eat the parts of the young boys after he had killed them. What lead Dahmer to turn out like this? There are a several different theories that would fit in.
The reason that he was diagnosed with this is because of how his childhood was and the way he reacted with other people. The problems had started in his adolescent years and then followed him throughout his adulthood as well. Dahmer’s father had stated that he realized whenever his son was very young that he had issues with making eye contact and also showed difficulties with reacting with others. A psychiatrist who actually provided a diagnosis throughout the trial claimed that Jeffrey Dahmer was a psychotic. Jeffrey had been suffering with these illnesses for a very long time.
At this point in his life, he basically had no one left to really care about and no more routes to take except for the one he took. Settling into his new home, Dahmer was starting to grow his violent ideas until he realized that he couldn't just think of them anymore. He had to do something about it. In 1978, “Dahmer committed his first murder in Bath Township, Ohio… a second murder followed in 1987… within the next five years of killing … another 15 boys and young men, who were for the most part poor, African American, Asian or Latino [were killed].” This event in his life shows evil because it explained how one murder triggered him to go on a killing spree.
Jeffrey Dahmer created a tidal wave of horror, disgust, and dismay when the nation learned of the macabre crimes of necrophilia and dismemberment that followed the murder and rape of seventeen young men and boys. Spanning from 1978 to 1991, Dahmer lead victims to their deaths by luring the men to his home and committing acts of utmost sin, claiming he was searching for “what [had] caused [him] to be so bad and evil” (15 Life Terms). Despite his plea for insanity, after a span of thirteen years, Dahmer received his sentence of fifteen life terms and no parole. Although Jeffrey Dahmer pleaded for death, his sentencing does not effectively punish his actions, for no punishment is applicable due to the absence of Dahmer’s empathy towards mankind.
Jeffrey Dahmer is a serial killer. He is a serial killer because he killed more than three people, he killed them on different dates, and he had three different locations. His first murder was Stephen Hicks on June 1978 in the house that his father and his mom and dad left him in. His second murder (9 years later) Steven Tumoi on September 1987 in his grandmother’s house.
On September 21st, 2022, Netflix released a Netflix Original depicting the story of the infamous serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, in a ten-episode true-crime drama that was well received. As a fan of the show, Dahmer came to my mind after discussing Self-Control Theory in class. Therefore I decided to research further into Dahmer's upbringing to possibly explain why one of America's most prolific serial killers' lack of self-control may have led to his crimes between 1978 and 1991. An aspect that explains Self-Control Theory is Jeffrey Dahmer's childhood.
A serial killer can best be described as a person who commits a series or murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behavior pattern. A disturbing fact about serial killers is that most of them should be eminently identifiable. Serial killers commit their acts specifically in one place, therefore, give the residents of the community, its police force, and even their neighbors ample opportunity to find out what they are. The fact they are not caught is attributed to three factors. The first being the characteristics of the victims, which in Jeffrey Dahmer's case he prayed mostly on gay men.
