Response To The Boston Massacre

The First Shots The American Revolution commenced with an explosive start in 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts. Gunfire was exchanged between British soldiers and American militiamen, leaving men from both sides wounded, and for an unlucky few, dead. This event has been remembered throughout history, preserved in personal accounts and history texts, but what we have always been uncertain of is this: who fired the first shots? Accounts differ; some insist the British fired first, some say the Americans did, and some say they couldn’t really tell. However, because of personal bias in the accounts, pressure to argue for one side of the story due to who the accounts are being presented to, and how long after the event the account is being given, we can never figure out which side fired first.

In the early 1760’s, the tension between the people in Boston and the British soldiers started to grow until in early 1770, when the two groups reached their breaking point. On March 5, 1770, a group of men started intimidating a British soldier; he soon called for assistance but eventually the crowd had grown to practically one hundred people. Captain Thomas Preston and seven other soldiers arrived, trying to calm the situation down, but to no avail. A soldier fired into the crowd followed by the other soldiers firing soon after, resulting in five people being killed. Captain Thomas Preston happened to be arrested and charged with murder.

The British sent troops to Boston as a preparatory estimation against future assaults on British individual or merchandise. In any case, Governor Hutchinson expressed that "an open and general revolt must be the results," (Doc. E). The measure of troops had unquestionably raised that strain between two sides. The pioneers griped, however proceeded with it since they thought British government is giving security and wellbeing. Today the bloody massacre happend in boston. There was a group of protesters throwing snowballs, sticks, and stones at a squad of British soldiers. They responded by shooting into the riot of people. The event ended up killing 3 people and right now they say that 8 others are wounded. The presence of the British in Boston is becoming more and more unwelcome.

The British soldier that was in charge at the time was named Captain Thomas Preston and he and his 8 men were all arrested for the shooting. Before this happened the colonists still had hatred towards the British soldiers for pushing the Townshend Acts towards the colonists. Listen here fellow American brothers! We have been with Britain for a long time now and they are making things difficult for us. They are not helping us, they are only helping themselves. We need end this and fight for our freedom! Just think about everything that they have done to us.

The Boston Massacre, known today by many people. Some even say it was the start of the Revolutionary War. Colonists were protesting to the British when shots were fired. Five young men were killed. It was another spark for rebellion.

The colonist were so mad that they started to throw stuff. Snowballs,trash, etc... the british were starting to get really mad. But captain Thomas Preston said “HOLD YOUR FIRE”?.But solider Hugh Montgomery fired a shot, and everyone freaked out.captain Preston kept saying hold your fire,but it was too late. Everybody was already going crazy till everything went silent.

The British fought to defend themselves. They had no intentions of getting back at the colonists for their misdeeds. The colonists should also be held accountable for the first shot, because the British didn 't plan ahead to specifically target the colonists. Though, the Colonists purposely targeted the British. The argument quickly escalated into a fight and then a so-called massacre, soon to be named The Boston Massacre. Although, there was the killing of colonists, should this event be called a ‘massacre’? In fact, only 5 colonists were killed in the shooting, and many claim that the colonists were not innocent therefore the Boston Massacre was not a massacre.

The British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre are not guilty in the deaths of five colonists because they acted out of self-defense. The crowd around the boys started to grow larger and larger, and then people from the crowd begun to join the boys, throwing ice at the soldiers and taunting them. There were many disagreements and because of those, many events were the cause of the American Revolution. These events included bloodshed by others, peoples rights weren’t enforced, individuals didn’t receive freedom, and our country was just not yet whole. Despite of the causes of why the road to Revolution took place there were effects afterwards. When American Revolution was over with the The Declaration of Independence came into place, treaties were signed, and the Bill of Rights. Now these effects/events were amazing, it helped our country tremendously.

The Boston Massacre is an event most Americans and British students learn about over the course of their education. In America, we learn that British soldiers fired upon innocent civilians, although this may not have been the case. British historians have referred to the Boston Massacre as the "Incident on King Street". After looking over the "Captain Thomas Preston 's Account of the Boston Massacre", as well as "Boston Massacre Trial Depositions" I believe that American historians should refer to the "Boston Massacre" as the "Incident on King Street". The definition of a massacre refers to an unnecessary and random killing of a large number of individuals.
