Why Should teachers be able to carry a gun. Reason #1 for teachers being able to carry a gun, protection of students. Imagine being a parent in this day and age were you have to worry about your child going to what was a safe environment in the parents age. What is now a risk for a mentally ill and damaged individual to kill as many innocent people as possible. This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter. If all teachers are armed shootings will be reduced up to 40% in fear through the shooters eyes. Another …show more content…
There is a possibility that a kid who is planning a shooting could just be in a classroom and find out were his/her teacher keeps the weapon, and they wouldn 't even have to sneak a gun in. That’s a downside but what if we made gun safes that only opened with a teachers ID or own password making it almost impossible for a student to open it. Conclusion By arming teachers there are alot more positives than negatives, Yes bad things can happen with a deadly weapon in a classroom but people will continue to do these horrific crimes knowing there is hardly anything that’s going to stop them. So by arming teachers this will give some fear in a potential shooters eyes versus a shooter knowing they can march into any school they want to and kill students and teachers without anyone putting up a fight until first responders getting to the
In the article from USA Today, it discusses how President Trump wants teacher to start carrying guns, and a Missouri school district is already ahead of him. The author attempted to find out why so many schools are on board with teachers carrying guns. The debate about whether teachers should be armed was thrust back into the national discussion after a gunman killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Because of how frequent school shootings have become, these Missouri schools decided to take matters into their own teachers hands to best protect their
If somone in all these cases of college shooting or any school shooting if one person had a gun and stopped the guy then there would be less people dead and less injured. Guns in school a good idea what about having guns in military recruiting
Arming Teachers Is Not The Solution To Stop School Shootings It’s only been about 12 weeks in 2018 and there have been 17 school shootings where students and teachers were killed or injured. This basically means that there’s a shooting every week. Of shootings perpetrated by minors at primary and secondary schools and for which the source of the firearm was known, more than half of the kids obtained the gun at home likely because an adult did not store it locked and unloaded. In all, these incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 non-fatal gunshot injuries. Because of all these school shootings, there have been people saying that teachers should protect their students, but in teachers’ contract, they didn’t sign up to do that.
Teachers with guns could possibly cause an increase in the amount of violence that happens in their classrooms. The fact of violence in their classrooms, for example, "what happens when a triggerhappy teacher what happens when a teacher wrongly identifies a threat and shoots an innocent person?” (" Even in a teacher 's hand, guns don 't belong in school" ). Human are humans. We can make mistakes, a teacher has a gun in their classroom, is more probable that students could be injured.
Arming teachers would be a bad thing because It will cost a mass amount of money, the teachers will need a great deal of training, and guns make the school environment very menacing and very uncomfortable. Arming teachers will cost a heap of money because there are a lot schools in the USA.Donald Lee Sheppard wrote this sentence in his article “My Daughter is a teacher, not a security guard “There are more than
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
Violent criminals know that currently schools are gun free zones, and can use this factor to their advantage. Rather than falling victim to an attack on the school; teachers could protect themselves and their students. Students could feel much safer if their teacher was armed. Students would feel more safe if they knew they could be protected from an attack from an intruder or another student. Criminals know that teachers currently are not armed and could potentially see schools as a target.
Over the past few weeks, arming teachers has been a controversial topic throughout the country. School shootings have taken the lives of many over the past few years, yet they are becoming more and more frequent. In today’s society children shouldn’t have to go to school worried if they are going to be safe that day. If teachers are armed it will add that extra bit of protection to the children. A big question is if arming teachers is even going to matter if an active shooter happens to be in that school.
There are those who add to America’s gun problem, and there are those who help solve the problem. Our country has many personal weapons in public circulation, this proves to be deadly. The prospect of arming educators has been widely suggested this year after many school shootings. Arming teachers will only add to America’s gun problem.
This question will go through every parent, teacher or other kid of staff mind every single day, wondering who will attack next. Moreover, what best if we are well armed to protect others, and ourselves but the reality is that not even with weapons our lives are secure, weapons will not stop school shootings. The problem starts with the person having issues with themselves and their surroundings and we need to make sure to have more support towards students with problems or that they mind feel left out somehow. Instead of fighting and worrying about making new rules for teachers to carry guns, they should really focus on their
But, perhaps arming teachers isn’t the best, safest or only route to a better future and an end to the problem. Having higher budgets for schools to get security, metal detectors and armed policemen and women would do a whole lot more than arming teachers. What is more sacred than the lives of the future? What could be more precious than a child who has yet to see their latter years? Time is already spinning and wasting out.
School shootings are extremely uncommon. A recent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study found that only one percent of childhood homicides, a majority of which involve guns, occur in schools(Russo,1). If teachers do become armed, should there be selected teachers? Some teachers may not want to be armed and have the extra responsibility. Teachers should not be armed while at school.
School shootings and gun violence have regrettably become a major issue in America today. The frequency of these acts of hatred are increasing and an increasing number of people are debating about necessary precautions. The most recent school shooting in America occurred this past week and the victims of it are raising their voices for the world to hear. There needs to be better, more efficient policies put in place regarding school safety and gun control to ensure this type of heinous crime does not happen ever again. There are people who say this is a matter of mental illness and others who say this is about gun control.
Second, it is not teachers’ jobs to protect students, as they already have so many responsibilities. They are hard working at school and don’t need more stress from having more to worry about. They are other forms of protection that schools can utilize. Lastly, fear would come upon students because of the deadly firearms in their presence. These reasons most certainly show why educators should definitely not have firearms on school
Equipping teachers with guns, who are little more than civilians, is absurd. This would not help prevent the type of deadly mass shooting we 've been seeing lately. All that would do is increase the possibility of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. Instead of training for how to use guns teachers should be taught self defense and how to use items around them as weapons. It would also help if every teacher learned self defense and not just a
