SIGMA KAPPA SORORITY STANDARDS COUNCIL Purpose/Goal The purpose of a standards council is to work with the chapter members to maintain high personal and group standards through positive reinforcement, appropriate discipline, and member education. A positive standards program is dependent on the standards council, the vehicle through which all standards programs are delivered. A standards council can help a chapter through the following: ¥ Preserving chapter harmony ¥ Enforcing the chapter Code of Conduct and national policy ¥ Aiding in the enforcement of scholastic and attendance obligations of members ¥ Helping to solve personal conflicts between chapter members ¥ Positively affecting the chapter as a whole The standards council includes …show more content…
I genuinely care about my sorority. I care about our reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of my sisters. Going through rush as a sophomore gave me a unique perspective about joining a sorority. I wasn’t there solely to make friends or go to socials and date nights. I was there to take advantage of everything a sorority had to provide for me at UGA. In Sigma Kappa, I found a sisterhood full of girls who truly are examples of excellence. I remember looking up to Taylor Haynes and even Kat Gillanders for their leadership around campus, and the level with which they carried themselves. I am proud that the girls of Sigma Kappa can walk around UGA without people thinking “look at that trashy sorority girl”. A big role in this is what the Standards Council does. It is important to have a program to steer college students in the right way when they start to go down a negative path. I would like to play a role in holding this standard for all the PC’s to come, so that the Epsilon Epsilon chapter can always be proud of its …show more content…
It can be a difficult time considering the people who usually provide support and direction to them are no longer with them 24/7. Joining the Greek community is a great way to find that support in your sisters, and to find a place to fit in when everything feels so overwhelming. In addition to helping you find your friends, a sorority is also meant to provide some stability to the crazy experience that is college. This, in my opinion, is where the Standards Council comes in. It can be easy in college to get caught up in parties, socials, football games, etc. Sometimes people lose sight of other important things, such as doing their best to excel in school, on campus, and most importantly, representing themselves in a positive light. Yes, standards is about discipline, but I also believe it is about providing a hand to help lead the way through difficult situations, when there usually isn’t someone else to. The Standards Council should be a place of trust and reinforcement, in addition to
There are about 260 members of Tri Delta at the University of Nevada, Reno. In order to be a member of Tri Delta, there is a huge process called Rush Week, where you basically speed date all the sororities on campus to see and find out which one fits you. According to Allison Baeulieu, an active sorority sister of mine, “a Tri Delta is a woman who is honest, reliable, selfless, and who can step up to the plate and take credible action to our chapter”. I respect that in this chapter only welcomes girls that carry themselves with grace and class. Every sorority in Tri Delta makes a big picture of the Fraternity.
The purpose of this paper is to review and analyze student cultures in the book Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, by Alexandra Robbins. The book provides a glimpse of the historically white national sorority system and investigates their secret group behavior. In the United States and Canada, approximately 800 institutions host social Greek Life on their campuses (Long, 2012). These chapters within the Greek Life system promote the ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and friendship. However, in the Robbins’ book and narrative of a sorority illustrates sorority life and negative realities of that system, such as rush, bid, racism, pledging, initiation, Greek Week, breaks-up and sexual assaults.
It is my desire to become a member of Kappa Lambda Chi Military Fraternity, Inc., to once again have the brotherhood and comradery that I was able to experience while in the Army. Promoting the values, lesson and knowledge I attained during my military service as wells as those set forth in Kappa Lambda Chi’s mission, is something I encourage when mentoring children on daily basis in my job as a school resource officer. My current position allows me to interact with people from all walks of life, providing me with an avenue to inspire those around me. Becoming a member of Kappa Lambda Chi enables me to further my personal knowledge, while being another avenue for me to impart wisdom, promote fidelity and encourage high ambition to today’s youth
Can you imagine what your life would be like if you hadn’t decided to join Phi Mu Delta? What life lessons, friendships, and memories would you have missed out on? Many brothers showed their love for the fraternity by sharing all the reasons they cherish their membership. These are the stories that remind us just how important the fraternity is and prove
I wanted join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. sense my sophomore year of college. I want to have the brotherhood to help me grow intellectually, socially and intellectually. All these things I want and support I have seen in various moment through my experience with the brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.
My intention is not to join this organization to step or because I like to party but, because I believe whole-heartedly in the values of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., scholarship, service, sisterhood and finer womanhood. I believe that through Zeta Phi Beta Inc. I will be able to fine tune my leadership skills, make lifelong friendships and help people on my journey as others did for me. It is my hope that this lifestyle will change my life for the better.
“The chief significance of Alpha Phi Alpha lies in its purpose to stimulate, develop, and cement an intelligent, trained leadership in the unending fight for freedom, equality, and fraternity. Our task is endless.” Jewel Henry Arthur Callis. Since its founding Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has remained loyal to its ideal of providing advocacy for its community.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
At Western Michigan University, there are many micro-cultures. One particular micro-culture I want to belong to is a sorority by the name of Delta Sigma Theta, incorporated. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913, 103 years ago, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is the largest African-American Greek-lettered organization.
To the women of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. My desire to inspire young men and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
I would be extremely honored to be granted the opportunity of being a part of such an amazing sisterhood. My personal values line up with those of which Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. stand for. I strongly believe that public service throughout communities will result in a positive change throughout the world. Likewise, educational development is extremely important to me because the access to education in all levels enlightens individuals and allows them to achieve their goals and amplify their accomplishments. Additionally, I believe Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will help me grow more into the person I want to become, because I venerate all the qualities of a Delta women.
I understand that not all brotherhoods are especially positive and have approbatory aims. For instance being part of a gang may mean you have a support system and are part of a brotherhood, but it does not mean you are bettering yourself. One other main reason why I have a desire to become a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity is because I want to have positive impact on the community around me, whether it be Temple University’s community or the general Philadelphia area. It would bring me great joy to be a part of an Alpha Phi Alpha project that would include reaching out to the youth of Philadelphia.
Explain your interest in joining Phi Delta Epsilon-MA Alpha Chapter. * I want to join Phi Delta Epsilon because it would provide me the chance to build lifelong connections and gain networking opportunities. Most importantly, I see myself forming a bond with other members, studying and sharing memories of what it’s like to be a premedical student at UMass Boston. The ability to connect, strive for success and learning from others with the same goal to attend medical school is what I’m truly seeking as a hopeful applicant of PhiDE. Joining the fraternity is the beginning phase of my strenuous road to become a successful physician.
As you walk through the sidewalks of the first few weeks, high volume music, lettered tables and others catch your attention, making you wonder if you should rush. Every college has Greek life. It is not something you can completely shut down. There have been incidents that put fraternities
