Article 1 Summary
() Here, Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt, discuss how vindictive protectiveness hurts students on college campuses, challenging college’s ability to be a breathing ground for diverse critical thinking as opposed to protection from opposing ideas. Vindictive protectiveness is the protection of students from words and ideas on college campuses that may seem offensive or opposite; along with the punishment of people with these words regardless if it was accidental or of critical critique. They state “…students should [be taught] how to live in a world full of potential offenses.” They go on to hypothesize

Here, the writer justifies censorship with the children’s sensitivity to various forms of stimuli on earth. Here the editor claims that the big risk parents face is the event that a child will experience something that is against the ideals and values of the parent. The editor is also concerned with the primal human interactions the child deprives himself of being in this digital world as compared to the real world; claiming this puts at risk the varied aspects of human interaction. The article then concludes by saying that the only obstacle are parents who are afraid of doing this real-time …show more content…
Where this fits in this conversation is on the side of supporting censorship on the grounds that the parent censors what ever the parent sees fit. However, the article minimally discusses how responsible the parents will be when they censor what their kids will see and hear as well as how they will treat sudden exposure to ideas and images. The writer, here, is on the side of the common, fearful parent who wants to help other parents censor their kids. Unfortunately, this article does not discuss the treatment of censorship when kids are exposed to what the world has.
Article 2 Discussion
() Even though this article is on the side of pushing for censorship without questioning it’s effects, this article paints the perspective of the reason why censorship exist in the first place; to make sure ideas that are nuanced, very descriptive, and depicts a portion real life through the eyes of mature human beings. What this article does not do, is ask the question, “after we censor our children, what do we do?” This article on reaffirms the mainstream “advice” given to parents on the idea of censorship. Unfortunately, this causes problems that are discussed in Article 1.
Article 1 and 2
One argument that book enthusiasts often bring up is that the very books that are being banned and challenged teach great lessons to children and even adults around the world. Children should also learn to face these explicit things at a young age because they need to prepare for those things when they are older is another belief of many people. Many people believe that banning books is unnecessary, while others--especially parents--think the content should be kept unseen by their children. Many parents believe that their children should not be unprotected from explicit content. ProCon.org believes that, “Children should not be exposed to sex, violence, drug use, or other inappropriate topics in school or public libraries” (ProCon.org).

In 1789, thirty-eight men who helped shape America into what it is now signed the Constitution of The United States of America, approving it’s message and the rights, or Amendments, listed within it. The first Amendment listed in the Constitution is the right of freedom of speech, the press, to peaceably assemble, and religion. However, in current times, citizens are challenging this Amendment by censoring the media, books, T.V shows, and movies. Why is it that people are doing this now, after nearly 230 years? Some people believe that certain information and ideas must be withheld from certain minorities and age groups, and few others believe that some ideas must be censored to everybody.
A Censor society One of the most pressing issue of our time is the issue of Censorship. All around the world, there is some kind of censorship whether it deals with Art, Books, Music, Speech or even the Internet, we all deal with this types of Censorship. Similar to today, the attempt to censor formats of media arises from organised pressure groups, these usually determine what is accessible to children; whether through films/television or today’s internet. Faber could never overcome the conformity and society’s standards when books were originally banned, he feared what others would think of him or what the government may do to I 'm for causing a disturbance in the peace they wished to achieve. Gattaca’s society constant relay of fear following conformity standards as to what is next for their world. Whether genetic modification advances further and current upper class citizens are alienated or an uprising will begin from the “god-children” born naturally rather than created in a laboratory.
As parents stay cautious, they are weary of the fact that children can be exposed to material that contains inappropriate information, and by banning books, they can prevent their children from viewing this type of
Censorship is the practice of officially examining books, movie, etc, and suppressing unacceptable parts. Censorship started in 399b.c when in ancient times a Socrates had to drink poison for his dishonesty of youth. Censorship is very important because it keeps young children from experiencing adult-like situations as in movies, music, or books that include profanity, violent behavior and sexual content. Music censorship has been observed for many years, but still remains to be an issue. Music can highly influence young child and adults alike and regulating it can provide balance“(connectusfund.org).
Censorship Censorship in schools may not be the best choice for enriching the future minds of the United States of America. Children of the United States of America should have the right to learn about anything for it is there amended right. Taking knowledge away from them and censoring it should not be the answer to keeping our Children pure it should be what we teach our kids. We need to teach them right and wrong that is what will keep our child’s mind pure. Many books are being taken off shelves every day in student libraries because a couple people do not think that the book is suitable for children.
Rough Draft Essay #2 What do you think when you hear something has been banned or censored? Most of us think this “Oh that’s great” because it had content that wasn’t okay for people to see. Today in modern society books are banned/censored because people see them as not appropriate for people to see. The banning/censoring books isn’t the best idea because some books are banned just because they have content that is seen a “mature” or “illegal”.
Not every censorship/ban book is that controversial no matter how many inappropriate issues are in there. That’s why Judy Blume, who is well known for being one of the most censored writers in America, has many of her books banned due to inappropriate content. In the essay, “The Censorship: A personal Review,” Judy Blume gave a much clear approach on how she felt when her books were censorship for controversial things for young adults and children. She even includes her personal experience when dealing with censorship in her early and adult life. In the essay.

We already have guaranteed protection against censorship to some extent, so we should be trying to ensure our freedom from censorship on all bases, not censoring select mediums and subjects. Censorship should not be allowed in school. Exposure to different ideas, cultures, religions, and other things can be beneficial, and lack of exposure can be harmful and outright dangerous. Though censorship is sometimes for the best, most of the time it 's not worth it to erase information from a book of a lesson or a system entirely. Censorship is a waste of time and effort that could be used teaching kids acceptance and open
A parent might not want their kids to be exposed to some materials like blood and gore or many other graphic materials to keep them from being scarred for life. There have been some restrictions to try and correct this problem. One solution to this problem is,"imposing age limits on media that may be inappropriate for children. "("Censorship") This can happen whenever kids want to watch movies.
In today's world, censorship is in our society and most of us don't even realize it. The definition of censorship is the same, but how censorship is used in certain places in society is different. Did you ever wonder why we can't access certain websites? Or why movie theaters won't let children under 17 watch rated R movies? Or how the simplest things such as reading is censored?
