The symbols of the play foreshadow everyone's actions, which is what gives us more themes in the play. As the characters start to collapse the objects around them is what is helping them such as the bird Abigail seen in court - which nobody else seen other than the girls that Abigail had following her - who Abigail said had the spirit of Mary. The bird is also a symbol, which represents the breakdown of Abigail, which brings about the theme of deceit, because she wasn’t able to see spirits as she claimed and didn’t actually see a bird. The symbols are what creates the many themes in this play.
If the girls were seen in the woods without the crucible, witchcraft most likely wouldn’t have been the thought, which brings me to the conclusion that without the crucible there would have been no tragedy. Also other symbols in the play represent innocence and corruption. For instance the rabbit which represents the innocence, who was eaten after coming into the proctors home.
