The Anti-Abortion Debate

Around 90% of abortions in the UK are carried out in the first trimester, (before 12 weeks of pregnancy), when the fetus is about the same size as a lime and weighs less than 14 grams. Only about 1 in 1,000 are performed in the last trimester, usually for medical reasons. Most of the gruesome images of aborted fetuses that are presented by pro-life groups are exaggerated and misleading. The fetus that is growing inside the the mother’s womb isn 't considered a human being. It can’t survive alone without the nutrients from the mother, therefore it is not yet a person.

Two effects an action of killing can have are whether the one doing the killing foresees someone’s death or intends for someone’s death. Foreseeing what will happen to someone is what the one who’s doing the doing can predict, or can infer what the outcome will be such as an indirect action. Someone who intends for someone’s death, or of something, is what the individual wants to accomplish, in other words, it is their means in which they are wanting to reach such as a direct action. The debate between what distinguishes the act of someone intending and foreseeing someone’s death is familiar to how people also distinguish their moral views between abortion and pro-choice. My view is simply this, because both debates are not set in stone in the sense of moral standards.

In the article “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy”, a statement claim that “in the United States, about one-third of women will have an abortion over the course of their lifetimes” (Abrams). In “When Is An Abortion Not An Abortion?” Mutcherson noted “in 2011, over one million abortions were performed in the United States” (207). Without abortion as an option, who knows what would’ve happened to them. Women who carry out an unwanted pregnancy are often at risk of depression and committing suicide.

Abortion has been a sensitive topic for many years to come. A lot of people feel strongly against abortion, because of religious aspects. Then there are other people who think abortion is something that should be kept for certain reasons. For example, if a teenage girl got raped, there is the option of abortion. That is how the people view it, then there is how the government views it.

There are 3 kinds of things that will help you out on finding information about abortions. There is Pro- life, Pro-choice, and Educational (abortion access…..). These will help you find out more about the decision you will make about your choice. They will help by giving you an input on what other people think and what their choice was. This is beneficial to everyone because if you 're not sure what to do, look it up and you will get good information about what to do and it may help you make your decision.

Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection states that, "an abortion is a medical or surgical procedure that ends a pregnancy." When it comes to abortion, the aspect that interests me is the fact that it is a tremendously controversial topic. I first learned about abortions in high school. I vaguely remember my teacher giving a lecture on the history and effects of abortions in the State of Texas, and asking the class to consider how we felt based on facts from the book and other 's opinions. From then on, I have developed my own viewpoints pertaining to abortion.

These show how views on abortion have changed throughout history. Without a religious impact on the matter, it is viewed in quite a general sense. The focus has tended to be the parents, the mother more importantly and her quality of life, well-being and just the overall impact of going or not going through with the pregnancy. There have been many hiccups as such around whether the procedure of abortion should be legal or not over time. In some cases it was only after a certain amount of time at which it was believed that the fetus was ‘officially’ human and therefore was illegal however the period before that it was completely fine to abort what had begun to form.

Abortion in America is a controversial issue in which both sides have valid arguments. The right to life is the most basic and important right that humans have. For instance, how would a person feel if someone else took away his or her ability to live? One would think it’s considered to be murder. Whether it be a woman taking the Plan B pill right after she has conceived (unwillingly or consensually) or waiting until she hits her second trimester to decide to have a partial birth abortion ,undergoing a D&X procedure.

This dispute against abortion have been view immorality and illegality and have been question whether or not it is modestly, short and largely derived in our word . This quarrels have all been stated and heard a hundred times beforehand. There are two side that sides that have involved in the debate .the two side consist as the pro-choice movement and the pro-life movement. The pro-life movement highlight the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be born; whereas the pro- choice highlight the right of women to choose whether to dismiss a pregnancy.

). Pro choice activists feel that states have once again have interfered with a woman’s choice to choose. One error made by abortion supporters is that they believe that states are now creating hostile conditions for woman to have abortions. According to “Abortion Rights are Threatened”, states are mandating that woman receive “biased” counseling and that parental involvement requirements become harsher for minors electing to have abortions.

What about abortion gets people so mad and tense? Abortion has two major points of view on the topic, pro-choice and pro-life. Someone on the side of pro-choice would argue that it is the choice of the mother and no one not even the government should have control over that. A pro-life supporter would argue that from the moment of conception the fetus is alive and therefore the abortion is considered murder. It is very important to look at the topic from both sides to fully understand why the topic has been stressed over for so long.

After reading this article, I have a greater understanding of why people who support a woman’s right to have an abortion are frustrated. If a state decides abortion is legal, then they need to support that decision and allow for easy access to abortion clinics. If a state votes against abortion, women from that state who are unhappy should move to another, pro-abortion, state. However, all that aside, I think “War on Women” is an inaccurate term for this article.

Choices, what exactly does it mean to get to choose, and to what extent? When does the government get to say enough is enough and take right to choose away. Abortion is one of the most heated and controversial debates still in America. The abortion debate will never be solved, simply because it is an argument over what someone thinks is right, but what each individual thinks is right, is actually different.

For example, Guttmacher Institute’s article called Facts and Consequences: Legality, Incidence and Safety of Abortion Worldwide published in the Fall of 2009, written by Susan A. Cohen was found to be ineffective for backing up my claim of why abortion should be illegal; however The Wrong of Abortion written by Patrick Lee and Robert P. George was found to be effective in backing up my argument. In order to be aware of an effective or ineffective source you must analyze by compare and contrast of how the authors are organized, how they argue their points, and how credible they are for using them as a source. In modern society, contemporary medicine has advanced at an exponential rate. With this newfound control over biological processes, at what point does it challenge our values as an ethical society? Abortion is an extremely controversial point of discussion that brings into question our very definition of what it means to be human. If it is morally wrong to purposely and directly kill a living organism, then it is morally wrong to purposely and directly kill a live human embryo or fetus. For starters, the current political policy on abortion is far outdated.
