The vast majority of the people who are members of the anti-abortion movement disagree with the procedure due to their religious beliefs. Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox oppose abortion not only because some women use it as a form of birth control, but they also view “abortion as killing and fear that they will not be forgiven by God” (Foster et al., 2014). It is because of the correlation between abortion and murder that there is such a strong negative stigma attached to the controversy. In addition to being viewed as an act of murder, anti-abortionist argue that when a women chooses to have an abortion they also choose to deal with lifelong psychiatric disturbances.
