Practicing abortions are very controversial topic. According to the article “America Deserves Better”, it states abortion held center stage in a major national debate throughout the 21 century (Goldkamp 42). Some religions consider it a horrendous act. It is unacceptable in religions, no matter the reason. Society can label women who seek abortions as “sinful, selfish, dirty, irresponsible, heartless, or murderous” according to “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy” (Abrams 181). In Pollitt’s text “Reclaiming Abortion Rights”, she wrote “some people argue that abortions are some weird, awful, desperate act and not a normal part of life in a female body” (77). Despite religious views and public opinions, abortions have been practiced …show more content…
The woman who was raped and decide to give to give birth to that child often face negative effects. Living through that whole pregnancy can be a nightmare for many women. The whole pregnancy can feel like torture. Not being able to have an abortion in this case would leave the women constantly feeling the presence of her rapist. The women can also be traumatized by the whole experience she endured. A report released by Newsweek Global in “The Abortion War's Special Ops: With Hidden Cameras, Invented Pregnancies—And Antithetical Agendas—Two Millennials Take The Fight To The Nation's Strip Malls.", stated that “…tens of thousands of infants have been born as a result of rape or sexual exploitation in the last 15 years alone”. In some cultures, if the woman goes through the pregnancy which resulted in the rape and gives birth to the child, it is seen as taboo and society won’t accept that child. Not being accepted is the worst anybody can go through. According to Manninen in the book “Pro-Life, Pro-Choice : Shared Values In The Abortion Debate”, “studies have illustrated that children who are born unwanted to women denied abortions suffer from negative psychological and emotional repercussions”. This explains why a child born of rape to be angry with society for not letting him fit in. this child has the potential to snap with all the people who won’t accept him/her. Recent studies have shown that children born of rape …show more content…
In the article “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy”, a statement claim that “in the United States, about one-third of women will have an abortion over the course of their lifetimes” (Abrams). In “When Is An Abortion Not An Abortion?” Mutcherson noted “in 2011, over one million abortions were performed in the United States” (207). Without abortion as an option, who knows what would’ve happened to them. Women who carry out an unwanted pregnancy are often at risk of depression and committing suicide. This causes many mixed emotions in a child’s life. Having the right to have an abortion should be a natural right just as loving is. In "Abortion: No More Apologies", Pollitt wrote “Legalizing abortion didn’t just save women from death and injury and fear of arrest, didn’t just make it possible for women to commit to education and work and free them from shotgun marriages and too many kids”(13). This line summarizes why I argue for pro-choice supporters. In the article “Torture Born: Representing Pregnancy And Abortion In Contemporary Survival-Horror.", the author writes “Prolife and pro-choice arguments emphasize the sanctity of life and of individual rights…” (Jones 431). This proves how debatable this topic is, however I am 100% on the side of
Over thirty thousand women are scarred forever with none other than an unwanted baby to remind them of the incident(s). If, perhaps, the baby is born, the mother might not look at that child the same way because the child would just be a constant reminder of the horrific occurrence. As the child grows up, the questions about their father and the truth itself will cause the child to become depressed. No one wants to feel unwanted. Abortions funded by the government are essential to helping these traumatized women.
The percentage of infants being put up for adoption has decreased from 90,000 in 1971 to 18,000 in 2007. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, about 2.6 million American women, as of 2002, were trying to adopt a child (“Abortion ProCon.org”). Not as many women give their children up for adoption but instead decide to have
Abortion is not only a fluctuating concept in our society, but an ethical and emotional debate, as well. The image I have chosen presents concepts from a cultural and historical background, as well as presents an ethical, emotional, and logical appeal to the audience. The debate about abortion has simply been overblown and exhausted. The truth of the matter is, abortion is murder. Ending a life, whether innocent or guilty, is murder.
Women who are victims of rape will always be in remembrance of their terrifying experience, which sometimes result in neglect and unfair treatment of the child due to the woman’s rape trauma syndrome. Women who are not financially stable that are pregnant and oppose abortion live in poverty. If abortions were banned it would increase illegal abortions which have critical effect to the woman’s health. Statistics estimate that the risk of death from an abortion is 0.6 in 100,000. The risk of death childbirth is 14 times higher, 8.8 in 100,000.
In “A Defense of Abortion,” Judith Thomson argues with a unique approach regarding the topic of abortion. For the purpose of the argument, Thomas agrees to go against her belief and constructs an argument based on the idea that the fetus is a person at conception. She then formulates her arguments concerning that the right to life is not an absolute right. There are certain situations where abortion is morally permissible. She believes that the fetus’s right to life does not outweigh the right for the woman to control what happens to her own body.
Abortion is one of the most controversial topics of all times. There are two types of abortion, Spontaneous which takes place naturally and induced which this essay will mainly present. Induced abortion is defined by the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. I believe that abortion should be legalised and accepted in all countries for different reasons such as; it 's cruel for raped women to go through with pregnancy, The mother has the right to choose for herself as it is her body not anyone else’s, a young girl is not ready for the responsibilities of womanhood and finally the health of the woman is more important.

She may have family and or financial problems preventing her from being able to properly care for the child. Women are forced to hear both sides of the debate and feel the intensity of a decision. Abortion is the said woman’s private decision and should not be stopped by any law. Only the woman herself knows her body, so abortion is a choice based solely on her feelings. The court case of Roe vs Wade established that
The vast majority of the people who are members of the anti-abortion movement disagree with the procedure due to their religious beliefs. Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox oppose abortion not only because some women use it as a form of birth control, but they also view “abortion as killing and fear that they will not be forgiven by God” (Foster et al., 2014). It is because of the correlation between abortion and murder that there is such a strong negative stigma attached to the controversy. In addition to being viewed as an act of murder, anti-abortionist argue that when a women chooses to have an abortion they also choose to deal with lifelong psychiatric disturbances. Committing to an abortion it is often the “most personal and
One argument continuously expounded upon is that abortion is horrendous, so it is “reasonable for society to expect an adult to live temporarily with an inconvenience” (“The Rights of a Woman”). The claim stated is that, even if a woman does not see herself as capable of having a child, she should do so anyways because caring for a child is only a troublesome, minute period of life. Such an absurd argument caves in on itself in various diverse ways. It declares, not only, that a child is “an inconvenience,” but that the effects and life centered on said child is “temporary.” Childbirth is far from temporary in both the aspect of its effect on the mother and the literal amount of time that must be put aside for parenthood.
Specific purpose: to inform audience about an important current issue. Thesis: abortion is the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, and it has become a wildly controversial subject that many cannot agree upon. I. Introduction A. Attention getter:
Abortion Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by abolishing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion is a very controversial topic, for example, one side of this topic believes abortion is cruel and committing murder, while the other side believes that since the fetus or embryo isn 't developed enough to be considered a living human being yet, that abortion is not commiting murder. Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.
In cases like these, women shouldn’t be forced to give birth to this child as it’s difficult for the mother to raise a child they do not love. There is no benefit for either party (the mother or child) as the mom is forced to take care of a kid she doesn’t want while the child is forced to grow up with a parent figure who doesn’t love them. I also believe that seeing the child that was a result of rape or any other harsh circumstance would continue long term trauma for the mother as it would be a constant reminder of a terrible situation they had to face. Another argument that supports the pro-choice movement that I also agree with is that it’s extremely financially taxing to give birth and raise a child, especially one that is unplanned. In America, the costs of health insurance to even give birth in a hospital is extremely high which many women struggle to afford.
Abortion has been a controversial issue in our society. The options are which path to take in life. The two paths we have to take or to choose from are give the child a chance to live or to be a teenage parent or having an abortion. In the young age of a pregnant women will be the hardest part of her life and when she doesn’t think that she can deal with the fact that she will having a child in young age the only way that she will take would be to get an abortion. The fetus will be decide to abort by their mother resulting in or caused by its death.
For the sake of the following essay, we shall consider the individual who wants the abortion to be ‘the Woman’, the discussion of gender in pregnancy is for another essay. This is an important area of discussion, hugely so, especially when in 2017 a number of laws have already been posed to reduce a woman's reproductive rights. In Arkansas, late term abortions are now illegal and men have the right to sue doctors who perform abortions on their wife, even in the case of spousal
