“The Raven” by Edgar Poe is written with the analogy of the mind, especially the conscious and subconscious attitude of the mind. The poem is interesting in the sense that the readers could argue over the events in the poem are not happening to the narrator himself, but by preference, within him, and especially within is mind. The poem begins with a dark emphasis “…midnight dreary...” (Poe), which postures the famous stage of Edgar Poe in The Raven.
Though many changes have transpired in America since the days of slavery, adversity, absence of chances and issues such unfairness and prejudice, which proceeds to gradually develop and encounter by a few, regularly thwarts one from prevailing. The topics of injustice and racism were greatly discussed in all the three letters from James Baldwin, Dr. Martin Luther King and Ta-Nehisi Coates. I thought all three letters were very powerful pieces, as they were beautifully written, reflective and moving. “My Dungeon Shook” by James Baldwin is a captivating read, it entails the social struggles faced in the US by African Americans and white stereotypes of black identity.
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using

In My Dungeon Shook, a short story within Vintage Baldwin, written by James Baldwin in 1963, reveals many dilemmas that the story conveys in which the characters and elements reinforce throughout the story. In the story, Baldwin is conducting a letter to his future nephew on the hundredth anniversary of the Emancipation revealing how society was at the time and how life was lived for an African American. Religion was a factor in Baldwin’s life. Many African American and Baldwin relied on God and figured that God will help the white society realize their wrongs. The African American society relied on patience for hundreds of years and is discussed their patience and restraint throughout the letter.
X’s purpose in his autobiography is to display how his life’s events led him to become the man he is well known as, as well as show the reader the crisis in America he has worked to destroy. X establishes the basis for his ideals as well as his childhood in chapter 1. He begins by describing how his family has been terrorized by racists since before he was born. His father had been murdered, his home was burnt down, his mother and father fought constantly, and his mother was driven crazy by insurance agents. All these events put together are the reason this chapter is called Nightmare, as Xs’ childhood was filled with conflict and torment.
