The Unjust Criminal Case and Civil Implications Of the Timothy Masters Case On the eleventh day of February, in 1987, the body of thirty-seven year old Peggy Hettrick was drug through a park in Fort Collins, Colorado. Almost exactly Twenty-one years later on January 22, 2008 Timothy Masters was released from Buena Vista Prison after being exonerated of her murder. During that time span a whirlwind of criminal and moral injustices occurred, which eventually led the life sentence of an innocent man. All in all this was one of the greatest legal screw ups in Colorado’s history.

Ron Stone, a police drug informant disappeared on January 22nd 1977 only for his body to be found two months later on the banks of River Stanislaus, miles from Sonora. The victim had been working as a drug informant for narcotic detectives. His main duty was to set up Christopher Towler by introducing him to two undercover agents who would arrest him as he tried to sell them cocaine. The set up was successful and Towler was arrested and convicted on charges of selling cocaine. In the course of his trial and before his conviction, Towler had expressed his hatred for snitches and the fact that he believed that they should be killed.

On April 18, 1977, Leonard Peltier was found guilty of two accounts of first degree murder. He was sentenced to serve two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for the murders of two FBI agents. Despite the jury’s unanimous verdict, many individuals believe that Peltier is a victim of social injustice. The evidence used against Peltier is in many cases circumstantial and does not provide solid evidence to convict him. Whether or not he was responsible for the deaths of the two FBI agents, his case deserves to be viewed from other perspectives in addition to personal bias.

Twenty one year old Moira Evans, daughter of Oftgrove police chief Theo Evans, has been found brutally murdered on the edge of the Evans property. The car was found on the Avery Salvage. Inside the car blood was found that belonged to Steven Avery. The keys to Teresa’s vehicle were found inside Steven’s home.

Assistant District Attorney John Norsetter concealed exculpatory evidence for close 11 years. Ralph Armstrong was convicted for rape and murder in 1995. John Norsetter was aware that Armstrong was not guilty of such tarrying crime, however, he remained silence even though he knew Armstrong was innocent. Back in 1995, a woman made a call to the district attorney testifying that Stephen Armstrong, who was Ralph’s cousin was the responsible of the crime. The prosecutor never told defense attorneys of such valuable information.

As with any criminal case, there are always a number of issues pertaining the stages of the crime and also the media and the general public’s opinion of the case. Many of the issues and explicit actions of certain individuals that had happened during the Corryn Rayney case had affected the interpretation of the case in someway for both government workers and the general public. On November 16, 2009, Fayetteville, North Carolina Police found the body of a missing 5-year-old, Shaniya Davis, with the help of assisting volunteers. Shaniya Davis was reported missing by her mother, Antoinette Davis, on November 10, 2009. Shaniya Davis was last seen on the security video at the Comfort Suites hotel in Sanford along with a man that was identified as Mario McNeill. McNeill was charged with first-degree kidnapping three days after the 5-year-old was reported missing. Antoinette Davis was charged with accusations that she prostituted her daughter.

Ted’s Head Graveyard On January, 11 1975 Caryn Campbell vanished from her ski resort in Colorado while on vacation with her husband and his two kids, unfortunately her nude body was found one month later in the Colorado mountains, investigators eventually linked her murder to Ted Bundy (Ted Bundy Biography). According to Dictonary.com a monster is a person who excites horror by wickedness, cruelty, etc. Ted Bundy is a human monster due to his socially deviant behavior and crime of murder, rape , kidnapping and necrophile, thus proving that human monsters are more frightening than fictional one in their creation of fear. In 1974 young women began to oddly disappear from their college campus on Washington state and Oregon without a trace.

The West Memphis Three are three young men, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr., and Jason Baldwin, who were tried and convicted as teenagers for a triple homicide that they did not commit. Both Misskelley and Baldwin were sentenced to life imprisonment, Misskelley with two additional 20-year sentences, while Echols was to receive the death penalty. Many believe that the trial was, for lack of a better term, a “witch hunt”, due to the fact that there was very little and horribly careless sincere investigation carried out in order to attempt to prove the young men innocent, there were multiple interviews disregarded simply for the sake of upholding the false notion that the teenagers were guilty, and the majority of the world at this time

After a twelve-hour interrogation, Brenton Butler confessed to the murder of Mary Ann Stephens. A key claim made by the defense attorneys in this case was that this was a false confession, and after reaching a verdict of not guilty, the jury clearly agreed. The factors that led the false confession were laid out in a scene during the documentary. Instead of using the interview to discover the truth, the interrogators specifically sought out a confession from the suspect. They began the interrogation with the presumption that Brenton Butler was guilty.

It can be argued that the jury was not a proper representation of his peers. Along with other factual errors surrounding Dixon’s false conviction,
