The article, “The End of Solitude” is written by William Deresiewicz in which he enlightens that how we live our lives. This article is based on the ending of boredom and how it would bring change in our daily life. Solitude, in other words I would say it’s an elimination of boredom from life by taking various kinds of technology, for example, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and etc. Technology brings a huge change in people’s boring lives; therefore, they are busy with different kinds of social activities. Technology also connects people from all over the world. The author also illustrates the image of technology that how people are using without interacting each other. I agree with the author’s point that technology has a huge impact on our …show more content…
They don’t want to lavish their precious time by interacting socially because they think technology is the best way of talking through messages and other social media apps. People think that they can end the solitude by social activities; therefore, they use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and etc. Celebrities are taking the advantage of being popular in short time; therefore, they use Facebook and twitter to become a known able personality in the world. Religious solitude generates a peace in our mind because it gives us delightful feeling from inside. It is also a self-correcting mechanism in which we can correct our mistakes that we know and that will make ourselves a better person. The end of solitude can also be eliminate by going somewhere with family and friends and that’s the best quality time for …show more content…
As I observe that concentration is necessary in lives. If we don’t concerned with our things, there will be a big loss for us. Technology is taking away concentration because everyone is stick to social media and they forgot their goals. I ruin my three years in college because I couldn’t concentrate on my studies. When I bought iPhone, I didn’t know how to use it. I gradually know the usage of that and I add data plan in my bill. I got addicted to other social media apps where I talk with different girls every time. I couldn’t be able to do anything as I was addicted to those stupid things. I started to fail classes and my GPA going to fell down. I was put on probation and I had a last chance to survive in college. I delete those apps and get back to college and take classes seriously. I know some of classmates who are completely eradicate themselves by creating pages on Facebook. They create pages on Facebook because they made funny videos to entertain others. They also thought that they could earn millions of dollars while doing that. They got distracted from studies because they saw other doing the same stuff. They made funny videos, but people couldn’t like their sense of humor. The all of them left that and come back to college to pursue their
Ray Bradbury is a good writer because he comes up with a well-developed theme/setting with the use of different things. For example in the short story “The Pedestrian” he uses a bunch of literary devices such as internal conflict, static character and more. In “The Pedestrian” leonard mead who is fighting his loneliness by walking but when a copcar sees him it takes him to a psychiatric center but before this happened he despised technology because he said that it ruins people's lives and makes them depreciate the world around them. The author of “the pedestrian“ Ray Bradbury uses many writing techniques to better his story by using them to develop his theme and mood. Furthermore these, examples show that Ray Bradbury is a good writer because he comes up with a well-developed theme/setting with the use of different things.
Over time, gadgets and gizmos have taken attention from many Americans. Maggie Jackson gives prominence to this point in “Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and the Coming Dark Age.” According to Jackson, technology has become too advanced for attention’s sake. In her essay, Jackson states that “we are nurturing a culture of social diffusion, intellectual fragmentation & sensory detachment. In this new world, something is amiss.
Sherry Turkle has quite an interesting view on today`s “wired” world and the concept of being alone together. Therefore, the author is clearly convinced that the world of technology has deprived us of some of the most basic social skills. Although technology can literally grant us unlimited access to the information of the world in which we live today, I too consider that technology does represent a danger on the way we use to socialize before and now. As a result, Turkle does a marvelous job of introducing her beliefs as well as what it could be consider strong evidence to convince her readers making her argument a reasoning sound. It is quite clear that the author showcases Ethos by displaying clear evidence on both areas; logos and ethos.
The Government has manipulated the people into believing that solitude is an abnormal thing. Solitude is discouraged because it leads into deeper thinking and self questioning. These things threaten the World State and their foundation of stability. In addition, the Government would have difficulty controlling people's lives if they are by themselves. Mustapha Mond highlights this when he explains to John Savage why people are never alone, “We make them hate solitude; and we arrange their lives so that it’s almost impossible for them ever to have it” (Huxley 235).
No one wishes to go through isolation and doubt their self-worth, but humanity has felt its presence at least once. According to Harry Owen Taylor “social isolation and loneliness are significant risks to health among older adults” (Taylor). The more individuals “get out” and associate themselves with others, the more diminutive the feeling of loneliness gets. If one chooses not to, they could end up risking their physical or mental health in the long run, the longer they go without it. Humans need positive social interaction to stay healthy.
Disconnection of Humanity Through Technology While technology can be used as a tool for widespread communication and entertainment, if used incorrectly, the negative effects of its usage outweigh the positive. These detrimental effects are displayed through the users of technology, including both individuals and societies as a whole. Over time, society can become so negatively impacted by their use of technology that faith in humanity is lost. This restriction of faith in humanity comes in many forms. Whether technology’s damaging effects are visible through society’s lack of human connection, harm to pure relationships, or endangerment of civilian lives, technology causes faith in humanity to be lost.
People rely on technology to carry them through their lives. The lack of social interactions also affects the way society is run and behaves. Technology also takes a toll on one's education, and cannot be
Thoreau’s essay, “Solitude”, states his true beliefs about companionship and solitude. He argues “we are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers” (108). His idea is that those types of companions are all superficial and without a true meaning. Although he does have friends and neighbors, he alleges they must live in another country with how rarely he sees them. According to Thoreau, natures provides a better companionship than the human population does.
In fact, people are still able to bond using technology, it can help people to keep in touch, and it can be used to help people cherish what is important to them. As long as humans do not abuse it, electronics can simply be used as a new way to interact with one another. Unlike the outcomes of “The Veldt” and “The Pedestrian”, technology does not have to consume or ruin lives. People should encourage one another to use the modern items at their disposal without uninformed cynics claiming that they are living life
Too much screen use induces less communication between people and more time spent using technology. Technology used in our society in the same way. Sometimes people use television to forget about a hard time at work, others using phones in public, so they don’t have to interact with other people. “Little by little, technology has become an integral part of the way that people communicate with one another and has increasingly taken the place of face-to-face communication. Due to the rapid expansion of technology, many individuals fear that people may be too immersed in this digital world and not present enough in the real world,”.
Before the invention of the computer and the internet, face to face communication was a normal everyday occurrence and loneliness and isolation was a problem that rarely was experienced or discussed. People moved about their day looking up speaking to each other as they passed by at the local store. Currently, technology is an essential part of many people’s lives, allowing them to use their devices and communicate with others in diverse ways and places. Technology has helped define society and established how one interacts with others daily by the way they communicate, learn, and think. There are both positive and negative effects of technology and the social individual.
Communication options have burst forth with the instant possibilities like texting and video chatting, instant messaging on the internet, and the speedy method of email. Technology has almost completely knocked out putting a stamp on a letter and the person receiving it a few days later. It almost feels sometimes as if technology has made people stop communicating face to face. Regardless of it is for the good or the bad, technology is woven into everyone’s lives in one way or another. Technology has fundamentally changed society because it has altered what people believe as morally right, has made industries more efficient, and can also almost completely erase social interaction because almost everything is now possible online, which all would
According to Lindsey Craig in her article “Technology -- we all love it and we all use it, but how is it affecting us?” she stated that “Technology is making us more alone, because instead of interacting with our friends in person, we are dependent on using our phones or tablets. We start to compare

Technology affects almost every aspect in our life. Nowadays people use computers and smart phones in their personal social activities, business, education, medical care, politics and, most of all, in entertainment. Needless to say that technology makes our life easier and is the major reason that helps people develop, especially technically, but it certainly affects our life negatively from a social perspective leading people to feel lonely. You don’t have to be physically alone to feel lonely.
