Globally, health care environments are rapidly developing which leads to a need for guidance to practice high quality effective care( Craig & Smyth 2007).In the way of improving health care practice, the need of Evidence-based practice (EBP) is essential to develop this type of care (Craig & Smyth 2007). EBP can be defined as a well organized method that encompasses three elements which are information from published articles, patient preference and clinical experience in order to improve the quality of care (Holland & Rees 2010).
According to Fain (2009), research is needed to build up new knowledge and skill in order to improve the quality of care and to move from ritualistic practice to researched practice (Holland & Rees 2010). Furthermore, EBP based on research evidence and useful in reduce cost care (Craig & Smyth 2007).
Locally, the practice of EBP is new and recently developed and applied in studies and practice (MOH 2012). The professional code of conduct for nurses and midwives (ONMC 2011) supports the implementation of EBP as this code states clearly to nurses that in order to be competent they need to update their knowledge and skill according to the current scope and standard of practice. Evidence- Based Practice Evidence based practice has influenced the way that induvials view sexually transmitted disease. It allows us to look at the information we have gathered previously, interpret it and then determine what needs to be changed and what seems to be working properly. When looking at EBP, we can tell that with the use of protection such as condoms and dental dams, the percentage of STDs being transmitted has lowered. When sexually active individuals did not use preventative measure, the percentage of STDs grew. EBP also has proven to show that the more partners one has, the risk of catching an STD becomes higher.

For this week’s discussion post I will identify a situation where evidence-based practice has been applied in my workplace. Evidence-based guidelines are put in place and into practice after research has been completed. This helps with intertwining practice and research and are established by professional organizations, government agencies, institutions, or expert panels (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). These clinical guidelines give clinicians findings to help in the decision making process of diseases or treatments. In developing evidence-based practice, a clinical question must first be put into place.

This assignment has impacted my perspective on evidence-based practice by helping me build clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of difference diagnoses that will enables me to apply the most high-quality and appropriate intervention strategies that is proven effective in improve patient’s treatment outcome.

The role of nurse changes as new research emerges and finds new and improved ways of helping patients to be restored to health. As Aveyard and Sharp (2016) suggested, evidence based practice requires that the approach is clear but also up to date and it based on the best type of evidence available at the point in time. The Nursing and Midwifery Council Code (2015) is to always provide the best possible service related to the best available evidence that is also in line with the patient’s preferences.
What is Evidence-based practice? Evidence-based practice is an all-around systematic approach to patient care that was built up on research and proven treatment results within nursing in order to increase the patient outcomes. Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
