I would find it a great honor to participate in the wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldiers. Both of my grandfathers served in the army, one as an army private during the vietnam war and the other served with the National Guard in the Red Arrow division. I think that the men and women who are in the army have perseverance and disciple. They are some of the most incredible people I know. It amazes me, how much these people love their country, that they would risk their lives for it. I couldn’t imagine the feeling of hearing that the my loved one was KIA or is MIA. The unknowns that lay at Arlington National Cemetery gave it all for their country, and for that they deserve this honor. Laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown

I firmly believe that such memorials are extremely valuable to veterans. It has been said of veterans that they seldom talk about their military experiences; however, in my thinking, that is not an accurate appraisal. We think about those times; nonetheless, it’s difficult to find, even among loved ones, those with whom one feels at ease to share those memories and feelings. YET, standing in the solitude of these memorials, a soldier’s thoughts flow freely as he/she reminisces
Did you know that there is a cemetery that holds every found soldier that ever fought in World War 1, World War 2, and The Korean war? Well yes, the Arlington National Cemetery holds more than four hundred thousand people over six hundred acres of land. It is the world's most important cemetery. You may wonder how the government found this land, and said,”Hey lets use this land as a cemetery.”
Consider using a photo of them in their uniform so that others will know that they are a war veteran, even if they are just passing by the headstone and take a quick glance. Select A Shape For The Headstone Another option is to select a shape for the headstone that will show that they once served their country. This can be done by selecting a headstone that is in the shape of a flag, with the etchings also showing the stars and stripes to really make it stand out.
It not only honors the lost, but it makes war seem so much more bleak and saddening. Maya Lin did a great job designing a memorial for the Vietnam War. It was functional, simplistic, and made us really think deep down about what war can do to people, not just those killed but the many of us affected
This made me think how hard it must to be keep being reminded the lost of someone near and dear to your heart, and I can relate with my own family. One quote that made me wonder is the quote “ … where there were more troops, more deaths, more headlines” I was wondering why was there more deaths, troops and headlines.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery is a memorial for all people that were killed while serving in war, especially people who could not be identified when they found their remains. It is located on top of a hill that overlooks Washington DC. It consists of one main large gravestone that states, “Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.” In front of the gravestone, there are 3 grave markers that represent the unknown soldiers that died during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and formerly the Vietnam War (they were able to identify the remains from this soldier from the Vietnam War by using DNA in 1998 so they removed his body). At the cemetery, there are also guards who protect this

According to president obama, all countries should come together to honor our fellow veterans on Memorial Day. I strongly agree with this claim, regardless of what had happened 50 years ago between these countries; it is best to forgive and move on because each and every country knew what they were signing up for and the consequences that they would have to face. However, these countries are always at war, so coming together once a year to show our gratitude to the veterans that fought for their individual country is the best way to honor them. Thus , soldiers did what they thought was protecting their own country and risked their lives to protect their people, so each country can afford to sacrifice one day on their behalf. Memorial day is
I also believe that the soldiers who were not in the front lines were just as brave to be there to support our country. Even those who are peacetime veterans are important and should be honored just the same. Peacetime veterans are home and get to be around their family while knowing that at any time they could be called in to fight. They fought so we don't have to walk around with the fear that at any moment we might lose our life or the lives of the
Adontee Neddham Mr.Hohm 8th Grade Social Studies 04/24/17 The Arlington Cemetery If the graveyard is truly the richest place on the planet, then much can be gained from visiting the Arlington Cemetery. The Arlington Cemetery is an insightful place to visit: it is home to soldiers who fought for freedom, some of America’s greatest civil rights activists, and significant political leaders who will never be forgotten. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier The tomb of the unknown soldier is a burial site for an unidentified American soldier from world war I in the plaza of the New Memorial Amphitheater. There were four unknown soldier candidates for the WWI crypt. Four unidentified soldiers were dug up from four different WWI American cemeteries in France for a random selection. After the four caskets were lined up for inspection, the third casket from the left was chosen for burial.
Were honourable soldiers (lions) led by incompetent leaders (donkeys)? One of the most greatly asked questions after the great war is whether or not were the commanding officers incompetent in leading honourable men to battle. A commonly held belief is that the officers were notoriously inept and well hated by their subordinates. However, the opposite can also be correct.
