Homework is like a boat with a hole in its side if there is a leak in the boat then the boat is useless. The water will rush in and fill the boat with cold, dark water. The same goes for homework, it is useless. All the nights kids spend with hours and hours of homework, all the tears and stress are not helping kids in school. The schools that have no homework have a better boat. In other words, schools with no homework do not have better test scores. In the article “20 Pros and Cons of Homework.” on Vittana.org the author explains how how homework only creates negative attitudes towards schools; “Survey after survey has found that the only thing that homework does is create a negative attitude toward schooling and education in general.” Students receive a great deal of homework each night but yet all it does is create a negative attitude towards school. If homework was eliminated then students might have a more positive attitude towards school. This would cause students to perform better academically since they think of school in positive ways and want to excelle. Students behavior would be confident and positive. Teachers would benefit from this since they would not have to worry about students being disrespectful or students not doing their homework. Students spend more than 100 hours of extra time in school, but the US is still falling behind in global rankings (Vittana). Many schools in other countries spend less time in school and do not receive homework. Those schools are the ones with the highest test scores. The US is not even in the top twelve for best scores. With all the extra time students spend on school related items, such as homework, it is not helping. An article written by Sean Coughlan states that, “Pupils in England already get an average of 150 hours extra teaching per year than their Finnish counterparts.” Students in Finland do not receive homework, but their test scores are ranked sixth in the world. This goes to prove that all the extra homework US students receive is not beneficial. Finland students also spend less time in school than US students do. This goes to conclude that extra homework does not equal better test

They are constantly judging with the classes more important so they can pick a subject to study at home. We cannot however eliminate homework because it gives students a chance to better understand the material been taught in class. We cannot expect students to master a subject without spending extra time beyond the classroom. According to John Bishop, “School and homework show students the important life lessons, such as how to read and communicate with others, that they will use as an adult.” Students can learn how important planning, staying organized and taking action is just from doing homework. Homework gives the students an opportunity to learn how to work independently.
