In school or even in your own family there that one person who only cares about themselves and that every day is there day, but in the book THREE by Kristen Simmons, it shows how someone who is so selfish can change their ways and become selfless. In the book, Maddix's city was hit by a boom that would send out a noise that would make your bones super weak. In the beginning, Maddix was only concerned about his self and only him. He wants to be safe and away from all the trouble that the boom brought. But Maddix had a change of heart when he saw a lady drag her body from the rubble of the boom to safety. While he was eating and watching the new the television started to blare out a warning noise of a missile strike that was alerting them to evacuate the city. “Maddix found his self in a loss of word and in a panicked rush to get out of the city”. While he was walking out of his apartment he found his self-trapped in a sea full of people who were also trying to leave. “(Why did we have to find out about this so late I could have been out of here and to safety far away from these bums)”. While Maddix was going to his car he saw a signal mother who needed help with putting her things in the car she asked for his help but he just keeps on walking like he didn’t notice her. People sacrifice things everyday, some more than others. Some people sacrifice their lives to be in the military or to give up a dream they always had. In the story “An Offering of Rice,” the main character Tatsue does just that. The story starts with Tatsue being selfish, but throughout the story she changes to be someone that is caring and appreciative. During the beginning of the story, her selfish behavior affects the way she thinks and behaves.
THREE DAY ROAD The two most vital characters in the novel “Three Day Road” by Joseph Boyden is the Xavier Bird and Elijah Weesageechack and they have several major differences and these differences has been told and tested throughout the whole novel that how Xavier was reserved and visceral while Elijah was self-assured and talkative. Xavier was nurtured by his Aunt Niska for the long span of his childhood, opposed to how Elijah was raised in Moose Factory by nuns at a residential school. This came up as the three key differences between them that are paramount to the story and the themes of the novel are; firstly, their respect for their Oji-Cree culture, secondly their respect and love for human life, and lastly their personalities.
It took some time to get used to and find a way of survival, but he truly made the best of the horrid situation.
Self Interest vs. Compassion In the novel, Messenger, by Lois Lowry, the author uses the main character’s reactions to many different challenges throughout the text to develop a theme of self interest versus compassion through two main events. The main character is Matty, a young boy who came to Village as young boy. He had two main challenges throughout the book, keeping a huge secret of him having a gift and him having to help Kira travel through Forest to village. One of the challenges Matty faces throughout the text is keeping his secret.

It only takes only one person to change the way you think about yourself. The novel “Tangerine” by Edward Bloor is about a boy(Paul) who can't stand up to his fears. This changes throughout the book. Every choice has a consequence, and all of the characters made Big and small choices. Paul's brother Erik’s choices affected Paul in a positive way, but the consequences of his choices were not.
Scarlet Ibis “Selfish people tend to only be good to themselves… then are surprised when they are alone”,(unknown).This is how Brother found himself when he abandoned Doodle during a storm. In The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst a child named William Armstrong (Doodle) is born with a medical condition who revokes him the ability to walk. But the selfishness, his Brother has been blinded by makes him want to teach his Brother to walk out of embarrassment “of having a crippled brother.” Therefore Brother is two faced he can be selfish or he can be altruistic to Doodle, which demonstrates how complex brotherly love can be.

Jonas’ Hardships Lois Lowry, the author, wrote a novel titled “The Giver” which took place in a dystopian society with ideas like climate control, sameness, and precision of language. The main character, Jonas, was selected for the assignment “The Receiver of Memory” and this assignment caused him many hardships. Throughout the story, Jonas faces many hardships related to his assignment, his friends, and the community. The theme to the story is overcoming obstacles because Jonas has to conquer many hardships throughout the novel.
