Adnan Syed was convicted of murder more than 17 years ago and has faced denial of multiple appeals. However, finally he was granted a new trial after his murder conviction was thrown out. The case of Adnan became a worldwide obsession over a night since he was subject to a globally popular podcast Serial. On the other hand, on 26th February 1999 I became obsessed with this case when he was arrested that morning. Since his arrest, Adnan has maintained his innocence and my family and I believe in him. Adnan’s was convicted because of two things, a testimony by Jay Wild, a state witness about helping him to bury the body and Adnan’s phone records that corroborated to the story of Jay about his movement on 13th February 1999. This was the day Hae Min Lee died. The prosecution used cell phone records to track Adnan’s movements at around 7pm in the evening and Wild’s story supported it. Later, during investigation and trial and in an interview Wild changed his story showing that the burial took place at around midnight which had no significance to Adnan’s phone records placing Adnan at the burial site at 7pm. Further, Susan Simpson, an attorney and a co-host of our podcast revealed a fax cover sheet that undermined the significance of Adnan’s phone records. Contrary to this Adnan’s attorney was not given this information at the …show more content…
We have two facts that can prove his innocence. First, Lee left school at 2.15 pm and she disappeared at 3.30pm the exact time she was supposed to pick her cousin at the elementary school. Secondly, the autopsy report revealed Lee’s body showed fixed frontal lividity, a condition that indicates after killing Lee’s body was left in a face lying down position between 8 to 10 hours. Later, Lee’s body was found in Leakin Park lying in a twisted position meaning lividity became permanent before body was dumped there. It is highly probable Lee’s body was not dumped at around 7
Jay testified he helped Adnan bury Hae’s body in 1999. “Jays first interview with detectives. He tells them Adnan
Of the three Adnan Syed was the one wrongfully convicted due to insufficient evidence and poor examination of all aspects of the case. Hae Min Lee was a senior in high school and the ex of Adnan Syed. Adnan had always been pleasant towards
The Serial podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig. Tells a story about a teenage boy Adnan Syed who was falsely accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. For the past months tuning in on this podcast I have not been convinced that there is any physical evidence, or anything that can in fact draw Adnan to this crime. The evidence is indeed flimsy. I have come to the conclusion that with the lack of evidence that Adnan is indeed innocent.
The prosecution case against Adnan Syed was mainly based on the testimony of Jay wilds, who said he helped bury Hae Min Lee's body. Jay's testimony was supported by the cell phone records that placed Adnan on the site on the Day Hae Min Lee disappeared. According to the prosecution, the evidence sayed that Adnan had a motive to Kill Hae, because he was jealous and possessive of her. However, there are inconsistinces in Jay’s testimony, which has changed multiple times over the years. Some people also claimed that He was pressured into providing false testimony by the police.
In this testimony, Jay incriminates Adnan by saying he was shown Hae’s body and made to help Adnan bury her. Cell phone records and other testimonies corroborated Jay’s version. However, during the multiple retellings of his testimony, Jay’s story had several inconsistencies. During the trial and his interviews, Jay’s testimonies have wildly different versions of where he was shown the body, whether Adnan planned the murder ahead of time, where the murder took place, as well as many others details. Jay was also told by the detectives that, if he failed to incriminate Adnan, he would be the primary suspect in the case.
Jay’s story is that he helped Adnan bury Haes body, thus Adnan killed Hae. He lays out their whole day to the cops, but his story consistently changes. He told the cops one story during the taped interviews and then drops parts of it during trial, every time he tells the story details shift. One person’s story should not be enough evidence that someone committed a murder, there needs to be hard physical proof behind it. The state uses Jays story as proof that Adnan must have killed Hae, but people lie under oath all the time and Jay could easily be framing Adnan.
Nikko Sheppard Mr. Salazar English 3 9 February, 2023 Adnan Syed’s Innocence In 1999, 17-year-old Adnan Syed is accused of strangling and murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. The two were classmates at Woodlawn High School, in Baltimore, Maryland. January 13, 1999, is the last day Hae is seen alive at school. On February 9th, Hae’s body is found buried in Leakin Park.
Adnan Syed is innocent. He did not murder Hae Min Lee. The reasons Adnan was wrongly convicted is: Adnan has consistently maintained innocence, Jay’s story is in consistent, the call tracking isn’t reliable, the Asia affidavit proves otherwise, post mortem results of Hae’s body debunked the states story, and people who knew Adnan and Hae said the break up wasn’t messy. In summary, Adnan is innocent. Adnan had been in captivity for almost 15 years.
Adnan Syed was a 17 year old high school student at Woodlawn High School that was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. Adnan is still in prison today. There is one question that has been in many peoples heads that have listened to the podcast “Serial.” Did Adnan Syed really kill Hae, or was he wrongfully convicted. Through the whole case, Adnan’s friend Jay, has testified over and over again that Adnan did kill Hae, and Adnan has testified that he did not kill her.
On February 9th, 1999, Hae Min Lee’s body was found buried in a shallow grave in Leakin Park––death by strangulation. Later that year, an innocent man by the name of Adnan Syed was convicted on an extremely shaky case for the murder of this young girl. However incriminating the call records may appear at first glance, Adnan Syed, with an alibi to prove his innocence, had no motive to kill Hae Min Lee. To put it simply, Adnan Syed had no reason to murder Hae. After the couple split up, multiple witnesses confirmed that Adnan did not seem to be ridiculously or unusually upset; it was merely another high school breakup.
Adnan is Innocent Do you remember what you did on this day, exactly one week ago? You might remember some things about that day, or you might remember nothing. How about if I asked what you did 6 weeks ago on this day? Could you tell me?
COINCIDENCES AND INCONSISTENCIES February 9, 1999. The body of Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park. Fingers were quickly pointed towards young, 17 year old, Adnan Syed. Adnan’s case is a complex one, there’s not a lot of evidence against him, however there are a lot of coincidences that happened the day of Hae’s disappearance.
He later changes it to it being just he who gets high, but why would this change in the story help him out? If Adnan had done the crime he would want to get an escape from all the stress he has just put on himself, so it would make more sense if he had smoked weed after the crime. Lastly, he lies about helping dig the hole in which Hae was buried. At first, he claims to have refused to dig the hole and then changes his mind and claims he helped dig the hole. I feel that he or his attorney wanted to change this to make Jay appear more prominent in the case, so he would seem more like an eye witness.
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
There is no logical way that he could have travelled a mile from school to the Best Buy, committed the murder, and made the call to Jay from a cell phone booth in 6 minutes. Adnan was also seen in the library at 2:30 by multiple people, which basically eliminates him from the suspect list (Koenig, “Route Talk”). Adnan was
