The American Revolution was a direct result of the French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years' War, that took place from 1756-1763. France and Great Britain were competing for territorial claims in North America. The British saved the Native American colonies from French takeover, and the government was in a huge debt afterwards, so they decided to tax colonists on goods and items. This made the colonists furious and began demanding for independence from Great Britain. The Boston Massacre was an incident between the British soldiers and the colonists in Boston, Massachusetts that took place on March 5, 1770. This was when a few British soldiers opened fire on the crowd, killing and wounding a few colonists. On December 16, 1773, a group of men boarded on three British ships in the Boston harbor and threw their tea cargo in the sea; it was a protest against the Tea Act that was passed by the British Parliament. …show more content…

On the night of April 18, 1775, hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize colonial weapons and arms. Paul Revere, a prominent silversmith, alerted the colonial militia to the approach of British forces. Local militiamen gathered at Lexington to intercept the British troops; the British were defeated and was forced to withdraw to Boston. The Declaration of Independence was the statement written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776. This was written because the colonists wanted to be free and independent from Great Britain and King George
