It irritates me how many athletes are paid for each year. Sure, people like LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Jonathan Toews deserve to be paid $10 to $30 million dollars per year. But other players (average athletes) don’t even deserve to have a single million due to their performances. Just imagine you 're a surgeon. You save dozens of lives in your career and make $187,200 per year. If you compare your “average salary” to a Benchwarmer for the NBA salary ($845,000) it’s about 4 times as your salary. Therefore, a second doesn’t go by thinking about how much athletes are getting paid. People have their own thoughts on athletes getting overpaid. In fact, people still believe that athletes should get paid millions of dollars while other people think they shouldn’t. …show more content…
Also daily herald.com said “Our president earns a yearly salary of $400,000, and he runs our country, while the athletes just provide amusement. Don 't get me wrong, but paying an athlete $13.5 million for a single year is just overpriced.”( Patel, page 1) This means that the people are starting to notice why are athletes are getting paid millions for just for themselves like when they work hard for that title for their city it’s mostly good for themselves because they have a healthy body and they can buy anything they like to choose. Furthermore, Gene Callahan stated that “The bartender defended Rodriguez’s salary, asking, “If someone offered you $25 million, would you turn them down“( Callahan, page 1)? Therefore, this explains how any regular pro sports athlete would never turn down an offer unless they are very strict about
Major football and basketball programs are the only ones which make millions of dollars every year. So, only football and basketball players from major programs deserve to get paid, but this is not fair. It would be unreasonable to the other athletes to only pay football and basketball players because they put in just as much work as football and basketball players. All sports programs have a similar schedule, and they are all demanding.
Have you ever thought about about how much time and effort college athletes put into their sport? They spend the majority of their four years in college training for a certain sport. All the time and effort the athletes put in yet they do not receive a penny. Most of these young men and women have moved out of their parents house and have to fend for themselves. College athletes should be paid because college athletes put up the same injury risks as professional athletes, the players bring in money, it could increase motivation for education, and the sport acts as a full time job.
College athletes deserve to be paid because they are the only ones not being paid in the college sports industry. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) generates eleven billion dollars annually, some of which could, and should go to college athletes. “USA Today reported last year just how much money the top 10 coaches in college football made. Nick Saban from Alabama topped the list earning roughly $5.5 million in 2013 alone” (Seibold). The coaches are making millions of dollars and the players aren’t.
If these athletes deserve to get paid they should just do 1 year in college and draft to the NBA, people like Marvin Bradley did the same. Marvin Bagley went to Duke for one year he is a center on the basketball team. Did you know spending billions of more to pay players would only exacerbate a difficult financial situation for school that are already subsiding athletics. However a statistical found that the top college quarterback are worth more than 2 million annually to their schools. The lifestyle of college athletes remains restrained by NCAA rules established by every athletic programs.
Should College Athletes be Paid? Every season, the nation is captivated by the complex world of college athletics. Many teenagers, myself included, love to watch college football and March Madness with friends and family. Aside from college athletics, many people also watch the NBA (National Basketball Association) & NFL (National Football League), and these professional athletes make millions of dollars every single year.
All due to popular and successful athletes. Some people say that the athletes should see part of this money since they are the reason for the increase in income. “I'd love to get paid for it. Honestly we don't have time for another job and we at least deserve to put some food or snacks in the fridge!” -Matt
I agree with the side that they are paid a good amount of money. In conclusion I believe that pro athletes are paid a really good
When people hear about if college athletes should get paid they would say no because they think the athletes would get paid millions of dollars. It is not like that, college athletes would not be paid that high they would only need to be paid so they can live a decent life. They have to balance their lives with school and their sports. College athletes should get paid because The NCCA is billion dollar business and the athletes don’t get any money, athletes spend more hours working for the sport than the average American, it helps athletes manage their money.
“Cristiano Ronaldo makes $56 million a year, Kobe Bryant made $250 million a year and Barack Obama made $400,000 a year during his presidency...” (O'Connor ). Professional athletes are paid millions of dollars to play a game while police officers, firefighters, army soldiers, and even the president are paid significantly less. “It’s not shocking that public servants like teachers and police officers make less than professional athletes”(Figueroa). Compensation shouldn't be about entertainment, it should be about job importance because people are trying to make the world a better and safer place not a more entertaining place.
can all agree with me that they get underpaid compared to athletes. The money that can go towards better causes such as donating to the homeless, donating to charities, helping people, etc goes to people playing a game. Do you think that watching a game is more important than helping people that are in poverty? I didn’t think so. Also, athletes didn’t get paid this much before now,
Athletes - Paid for Their Worth Most people think that athletes are overpaid and see huge contracts come out every year. It’s not everyday that an athlete wakes up to a 20 million dollar contract. In fact, they actually worked for it over many years of training and dedication. Pro athletes are paid exactly what they deserve because they work hard and sacrifice more than most people think. It's not just businesses paying them; people do things like buy merchandise, tickets to the games and support their favorite teams while the athlete does the “dirty” work of performing.
They don’t think that 's enough they think they should get paid for the sport they play as well. Most college athletes would just be happy with a four year career playing a sport and not having to pay for their college education.(3) Some of the athletes think they should get paid for doing something that got them that education. Which I don’t think thats right. Also college athletes get opportunities at receiving both a college education and get the exposure to win a major professional contract.(1)
Athletes are paid more than very important jobs such as surgeons, teachers, and even the president! Athletes don’t even do very important things, they merely entertain fans in an arena. Do they save lives, educate our future, or run our country? No, they don’t. Finally, an athlete's salary is more than an average American household makes in a whole decade.
While the athletes just show entertainment to fans. Don 't get me wrong, but paying an athlete $13.5 million for a single year is just really doing the most. There are doctors who are probably saving lives right now that will probably never make that much. Some might say that these pro athletes have spent most of their childhood playing sports, but hasn’t everyone played like one type of game or sport once in their life? I’m not trying to say that I don’t think that they should not get paid at all, but they shouldn’t be getting paid that much.
People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers don’t get paid as much; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
