Canada has had several things that have made it a good country to live in. In the first half of the twentieth century, Canada fought in many battles during the World Wars that had a positive impact on the world. On top of that, there are many Canadians that made notable changes in Canada and the rest of the world. Lastly, Canadians have created technologies that are very important to the way we live today. After looking at these factors, it can be said that Canada is a country that its citizens should be proud of.

The first reason Canadians should be proud is because of the country’s involvement in the wars. Canada has great success at Vimy Ridge. This gave the country more of a military identity and a feeling of national pride. Many countries tried to capture the ridge, but Canada was the only one who succeeded. Pearson played an integral role in creating Canada’s reputation as a peacekeeping nation. He first proposed peacekeeping missions to the UN in 1956. He also helped create the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Without John Diefenbaker, Canadians might still struggle with human rights. He had a vision for “One Canada”, free of discrimination; he introduced the first Canadian Bill of Rights in 1958. This has now turned into what we know as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Lastly, Tommy Douglas, although never a Prime Minister, he did bring lots of important changes. Inspired by what one doctor did for him as a child, he set out to make health care free for all Canadians and eventually, in 1966, succeeded. He also brought the start of social plans, pension plans, and two weeks of paid time off. It’s because of men like these that Canada is a great country to live in
