Currently there are 49 known dictators in the world today(Davis)! This includes 21 in Africa, 18 in Asia, 7 in the Middle East, 1 in Europe, and 2 in the Americas(Davis). Dictatorship is a form of government where one person has absolute control and hold all political power (“How Dictators Work”). Dictatorship is a weak form of government because there’s no check and balances, rights of the people are hindered, and more often than not people are killed(Davis).
When Dictatorship was first introduced it wasn’t what you think of today. It was first created in 510 B.C by Roman Senate and was only used for emergency such as controlling the rebellions. At this time Rome was controlled by two consuls, but sometimes one would have to take the role of a dictator. They held authority over all politicians and couldn’t legally be held responsible for their actions. A sixth month term was put in place to insure that the

The list of reasons as to why a dictatorship is wrong goes on and on. But there is a short list as to why when done properly it can be a good thing. It goes back to the start of everything. The Romans proved it can help settle disputes and helps bring down violence. A dictatorship is a strict form of government and it can give structure to the people. Even though it is suppose to help stop violence it more often than not creates it. Dictators now are much different than in the past. In the past they wanted what was best for their people. They had compassion for others. Now they are cruel and hard to emotions. The only thing they feel is greed.
Dictators recent and past have proven that dictatorship does not have checks and balances, it hinders the rights of the people, and people get killed under extreme circumstances. When dictatorship is mentioned many people think of people such as Hitler and Stalin. They both helped turn the once helpful and successful form of government into what we think of today. They allow themselves to be overtaken with
Dictatorship is when a certain person or a small group control everybody in the country. (Encyclopedia Britannica) Dictatorship makes it so the leader controls what the people do. This also includes Communist Dictatorships like the Soviet Union. Our colony is strongly against dictatorship because there is always someone that has too much power when everybody else has no freedom to question it whatsoever. In Earth’s past whenever they had dictators they usually threatened the world.
People were tired of suffering, and the dictators promised to end it. The people also turned to dictators during
What a Dictator Wants vs. What a Dictator Does Not Want What silence is to a reigning dictator, corruption is to government officials. When citizens are in fear they tend to be silent and never lash out at their rulers as great or fatal consequences can result. On the other hand, silence can stir up resistance to the power of a dictator ending their rule. In the book, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, the setting takes place in the Dominican Republic where the crude dictator Trujillo rules and installs fear in his people. Trujillo does as he pleases and has many personal "eye witnesses" to back him up if needed.
Throughout, we witness constantly the dictators manipulation in the people's mind. The people are not allowed to envision anything about themselves, but only about them as a whole. “We are one in all, and one in all in one. There are no men, but only the great WE One, indivisible and forever” (Rand 19). The dictators have completely re-arranged their minds to foresee that is no self thought but only group thought.
In summary, propaganda, persecution, and industrialization are ways dictators use to gain and maintain power because with it they can get people to trust
Powerful dictators such as Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany, Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union, and Benito Mussolini of Fascist Italy either promised to bring change to their countries, or were just brutal even in the beginning. Economical failures, striking fear in the people, and nationalism
Our human nature requires us to be products of our environment. If someone grows up in a house that appreciates art, those that grow in the house are likely to inherit that trait as well. Those that grow up in tribal society are likely to hold those tendencies for the rest of their life too. As we see in Mark Bowden’s “Tales of the Tyrant” in this tribal way of life people live independently; they need not work with others, because they only have themselves. Saddam Hussein did not know how to civilly operate with others around once he rose to great power; so he was forced to use his village mentality where violence is the rule of law, thus leading to his intense and irrational cruelty.
Xenophon, one of Socrates students, was a Greek general and soldier, as well as an active politician. He was also a widely acclaimed historian who has written many books. One of his more popular works is Xenophon’s Hiero, which is a dialogue between Hiero, a tyrant, and Simonides, a wise poet. The dialogue is a response to assumptions that the tyrant’s life is more pleasant than the life of private men. Hiero as someone who has lived both lives gives many reasons to break this misconception and prove the unhappiness state that he lives in because of his position as a tyrant.
Trujillo vs. Hitler The definition of a dictator is a ruler with complete and absolute power over a country that is usually received forcefully. Adolf Hitler and Rafael Trujillo are two examples of powerful dictators that impacted their country immensely. During their reins of power, German and Dominican people were abused, manipulated, and many were killed. Hitler and Trujillo have several similarities on how they dictated; although, the ways in which they chose to use their power differed.
Who would have ever thought that a simple dictator could have so much in common with a pig from a book. It’s quite silly actually to think about it almost makes it seem like it 's a common thing for a dictator to make decisions like these. Though the things that Putin and Napoleon did are very weird both of them did it which makes it seem like it actually isn’t that weird especially for two dictators to do. No matter how common it is for dictators to pull stunts like the examples that have been given it is wrong nonetheless. As this essay is being written it is questioned, why is it that most dictators do terrible things and why isn’t their a dictator doing something good for a
Joseph Stalin and Fidel Castro were dictators famous for their communist ideology and violent reigns while totalitarian dictators. Defined by Dictionary.com, Totalitarianism is “absolute control by the state or a governing branch of a highly centralized institution” and a dictator is “a person exercising absolute power, especially a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession.” Dictators are usually stern, but passionate in front of the public. Joseph Stalin and Fidel Castro both came to rise in environments that were challenging politically, economically, socially or all of the above. They offered another light that people were desperate to see.
Various reasons prove this, though the people believe that they are better best served before the state, history only shows the most benevolent and the most hated rulers. So if a ruler rules just to be well-liked history does not show that they had any significance because none of the people are left to remember what acts of kindness they performed. If a leader is feared but provides huge expansion and sets up their state to be successful in the future they are remembered as important to causing their state to be the way it is today. In truth, all people serve to their own interests and will turn on anyone who goes against it unless they are controlled. It is nearly impossible to control people with their love for ruler because they will not love the ruler once the ruler goes against their interests, but if they fear the ruler they will fear going against them and stay under the influence of their ruler.
After all, there is a reason why tyranny now has a very negative connotation. Firstly, due to the fact that tyrants always takes the power of the powerful aristocrats, they are obviously not big fans of them so they create propaganda against the tyrants and do what they can to drag their name through the mud and get them kicked out. Secondly, the second generation was never the same as the first. The second generation of tyrants was mainly considered to be spoilt and unsuitable to govern, as they tended to be less experienced, knowledgeable, rash and harsh.
