However, Danforth accused Proctor for working with the devil and gets hanged for it with Sarah Good. These events caused people to take revenge on others and killed, out of greed. To begin with, the Salem witch trials had a negative impact to the people, Judges, and the people of the Church. Such people like Mary or Paris, lied and betrayed people to get what they want in which caused people to hate them, also, couple of people died, loved ones, friends, and families. According to Mary “No, I love God’; I go your way no more. I love God, I bless God” (Miller 1152). Danforth stated, “You misunderstand, sir; I cannot pardon these when twelve have already been hanged for the same crime.”(Miller 1156). After he hung twelve people, Danforth thinks that we shouldn’t stop because if they were to stop it, that would say that they were wrong in their judgement.Courageously, they kept it going, thinking that they were right and everyone who opposed them or the girls, were working with the devil. Worried that Hale was wrong, he left and came back, trying to get people to just give in, that living and lying is better than dying. So furthermore, Hale and people of the church has been somehow
After the trials were finished they immediately started hanging the list of people that were convicted of the crimes. John Proctor being one of those people, was not yet hanging but he was being held captive. Abigail visits him and tries to apologies and get him to run off with her. He turns her down and says he would rather go to hell then run off with her. Abigail apologies and tells him
Why point a finger at someone, when four are pointing right back at you; history continues to repeat itself over and over again. The Salem Witch Trials were a time when Puritans turned on their own kind, accusing them of witchcraft. This continuous accusation turned the Puritan’s well-being upside down. Over hundred years ago, the Red Scare occurred and people with higher states were getting accused of being named Communist. These allegations have been just as ruinous as being called a witch throughout the 1800’s.
Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. During this time, many people are hung for being accused of performing witchcraft, but who is there to blame? During this time, many people feared for their lives, and others used this as a time to get rid of people. In The Crucible, Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Deputy-Governor Danforth are responsible for the witch trials in Salem. The play begins with many girls dancing in the woods and people being accused of witchcraft.
No one thinks about how fast people can turn on eachother, until it’s too late. “The Crucible '' is a play written by Arthur Miller that is set in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, and shows what happens when witchcraft quickly turns people against each other. The play focuses on a small community where some members have been accused of witchcraft. One of the main characters, John Proctor who is a farmer, is one of the accused of witchcraft along with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor. In this story, John Proctor is seen as a tragic hero, who is someone who is of noble stature, has a tragic flaw that ultimately leads to a downfall and experiences meaningful suffering.
People have to go through a hard crucible situation when someone point finger at them such as jews. It is kind of like nature of human to think about themselves first and protect themselves, but it takes too much courage for a person to stay with what they believe or accept their fault. Arthur Miller’s story which was played in The Crucible had actually happened in a village when people had to go through a difficult life choice in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. For a guilt/adultery, John Proctor faced a terrible persecution, Rebecca Nurse, a honorable woman in the society, who faced a horrible penalty of death; even though Reverend Parris (minister of the Salem) could have saved all the people if he hadn’t cared about his rising reputation so much. Arthur Miller expresses people’s reactions to turmoil in The Crucible: the title effectively captures the struggles the character have to face.
Hale no longer believes in the witch trials. Everything Reverend Hale came to Salem for now no longer means anything to him. By this point Reverend Hale, among others, has become fed up with the pretense and falseness of ‘The Salem Witch Trials’ and wants nothing more than for it to be over. (page 84, act four, Miller, Arthur The Crucible: A Play in Four Acts, Viking Press 1953) “ HALE, quickly to Danforth: Excellency, it is enough he confess himself. Let him sign it, let him sign it.”
“The Crucible” is a fiction story that took place in a small town called Salem in the state of Massachusetts in 1692 during the spring time. The plot of this story is about a group of girls who went into the forest led by a black slave named Tituba. They were all dancing in the forest until Reverend Parris caught them dancing in the forest and even saw one of the girl naked. Parris’s daughter Betty who was there in the forest falls into a coma-like state when Reverend Parris caught them. Reverend Parris only noticed his daughter was sick the next day and accused Abigail William, who is Reverend Parris’s niece, of witchery and caused his daughter to go into a coma-like state.
Mary Warren then decided to accuse John Proctor even though John was only trying to bring the truth up. John was then sent to jail all because of Mary Warren couldn’t tell the
He openly says that they are killing innocent people, especially when Rebecca Nurse, Mrs. Corey, and Elizabeth are convicted. he tries to convince Reverend hale to stop the trials. He says to Hale: “And why not if they must hang for denyin' it? There are them that will swear to anything before they'll hang; have you never thought of that?” (Miller, 65).
In the first act of “The Crucible”, it is evident that John Proctor is highly controversial among the citizens of Old Salem. There are Salemites that are friendly and treat him with respect, there are others that are infuriated with him, and there is one that has a grand lust for the married John Proctor. The reason many Salemites have a certain disdain for the name John Proctor, is that Proctor rarely ever comes to church. Proctor actively avoids coming to church, because he does not agree with the way Reverend Parris preaches.
Repenting sins is mostly believed to reset fate and open the golden gates to Heaven. John Proctor, one of the main characters in The Crucible, is a primary example of this. People could view John as a sinner attributed to him cheating on his wife Elizabeth, but he is vindicated through remorse. Proctor, in Arthur Miller’s, The Crucible, is portrayed as a Christian man even though in the beginning he is not, due to the face of him seeking redemption for his sins and sacrificing himself for others.
In my opinion John Proctor is the protagonist of the crucible, because there are some reasons. One reason for me is that John Proctor is starting the Salem witch trials indirectly. It is Abigail who starts the trials, but she only does it to kill John’s wife to be the only one John love and they finally can get married. Because of that the relationship between John, his wife and Abigail is in the foreground. Another reason why John is very important in the Crucible is that he has a strong voice in the community.
The Truth: During the late seventeenth century in Salem, Massachusetts Bay, Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams were found dancing in the forest by Samuel Parris (minister of Salem). Later on, both of them started to do violent movements and to scream randomly. A doctor theorized that the young girls were acting strange because they were bewitched. Afterwards, different young girls in the area started to have resembling behaviors.
The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller. It takes place during the Salem witch trials. Salem is an isolated town in the Boston area that is set up perfectly for witchcraft accusations. Abigail is being accused of witchcraft and she is a manipulative girl. Abigail has been accused of committing witchcraft in the woods and she plans to bring other people down with her.
In The Crucible, a drama by Arthur Miller, John Proctor demonstrates courage by speaking out for what he believes in while knowing his consequences, admitting his wrong doings with Abigail to save Elizabeth’s life, and choosing to be hanged over having his name posted on the church door because the second his signed confession is posted, his and his loved ones reputations will be ruined. In the beginning of the play all John Proctor cared about was his reputation. However, ultimately he sacrificed his reputation by telling the court he committed adultery. John telling the court he was guilty ruined his reputation, which made all hell break loose.
