Hey! Did you know that the war of 1812 cost the U.S. $105 million? It was almost the same cost for Great Britain. The war of 1812 is actually really interesting, it is one of the most important wars to happen. So the war of 1812 is called the forgotten war I’m not really sure why though. So I don’t exactly know why I’m typing an essay on this but what I do know is that we had to study this war and decide if it should be in the history books or not. In my opinion I think the forgotten war should be in the history books because it’s a really interesting war and an important one to. It has a lot of events in it that have happened. Even though I’m not a big fan of history or not good at it I really do think that the forgotten war should be in the history books. It’s really interesting. Oh! It was also one of the biggest wars fought. …show more content…
Now here is some evidence on the 1812 war: The National Anthem was made in it, There was a really bad storm, The war was really long, A lot of stuff happened in it, A big battle happened in New Orleans, The British burnt down the White House, and Francis Scott Key created the National Anthem. Those are the evidence I have for reason one. Reason two is that the National Anthem was created in the forgotten war of 1812. I’m also going to name evidence for the reason to about why it should be in the history books: Francis Scott Key created the National Anthem, Francis Scott Key wrote the National Anthem after the war, Francis Scott Key got inspiration by seeing the American Flag, British gave up on trying to destroy the fort, Francis Scott Key died on January 11, 1843, He was born on August 1, 1779, and people referred the National Anthem as The Star Spangled Banner. Now those are all the evidence I have for reason
Q5. The book All Quiet on the Western Front taught me everything I know on war. Before reading this book I honestly knew absolutely nothing when it came to war. The only things I had known was that the United States of America had a strong army and they would protect us. War had never been a worry to me, occasionally I would hear about it in the news, but it never bothered me.
The War of 1812 Documentary Notably, the documentary shows how the glories of war became enshrined in history. On the other hand, the documentary shows how people easily forget the failures and how truths are forever ignored. With its spectacular re-enactments, suggestive animation and the perceptive commentary of the key experts, the war of 1812 presented the strange and awkward conflict that strived in shaping the destiny of the continent. Nearly two centuries after the war, the was a comprehensive history that was forged after the two-and-a-half-year clash. From 1812 to 1815, it is believed that the Americans battled against the Canadian colonists, the British and the Native warriors where the outcome significantly changed the identity and
All is Lost in War Before World War I, war was glorified and many a young boy hoped of becoming a soldier. After World War I, war had been given a new darkness of scarring memories from veterans of the debacle. All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Remarque, and In the Field, by Tim O’Brien, help shed the light on this shade that looms over war now. In All Quiet on the Western Front and In the Field, common themes of lost generation and horrors of war are present in a bold fashion.
The Great War has been described in many articles and passionate writings, but one specific piece has grabbed the attention of people over the years; “Generals Die in Bed”. This novel was written by Charles Yale Harrison. This war was primitive in the concept of a world wide war, as was shown by the type of warfare, and simple lack of basic rules of war. In comparison of weaponry from then and now, this Great War was considered savage and barbaric, due not only to the amount of sheer death and injured, but also because of how these casualties happened. The bayonet, a long knife on the tipend of a firearm, was key for shortranged combat.
There is many things about the War of 1812 that Americans should know today. Although the name can be very deceiving, the war lasted a total of thirty-two months, not just a year. The famous Star Spangled banner was written by Francis Scott Key during this war. Although Americans have listened to this anthem hundreds of times, many probably don't realize that Key was literal when describing "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air". Americans should realize that Key literally described what he was witnessing.
2,000 highly trained British soldiers died compared to only about 13 American soldiers. At this time the British were the military force but they made so many mistakes it was hard to believe, one example is that they forgot to bring ladders to climb up the ramparts. The history book publisher wants to take out The War of 1812 just so we can save money. The publisher doesn't think The War of 1812 is necessary to learn because it wasn't important and it didn't help shape our future. We should keep The War of 1812 in our textbooks because it is a show of respect for those who had fallen, if we don't keep the war in it will almost be like all the American soldiers did was for nothing because nobody will know how we got where we are today
The Impact of War on Individuals Wars are produced by the powerful. They take young faced men to fight, however the impact of war on those cannot be erased. Erich Maria Remarque the author of All quiet on the Western Front has taken the viewer through the eyes of young 18-year-old Paul Buemer and his horrific experience of being sent to fight on the Western Front during World War One. The novel takes the reader through the physical, social and the psychological effects of an individual impacted by war. Paul’s physical experiences of pain and loss has contributed to his character’s survival instincts and loss of innocence that he feels when joining the army.
The war of 1812 was an unpopular war, particularly in the New England States. The US had difficulty financing the war because it had disbanded its National Bank and private banks in the Northeast were opposed to the war and made financing difficult. Most New England States refused to allow their state militias to cross the state’s border, thus hampering a major invasion of Canada. 6 The Army consisted of fewer than 12,000 men.
Brandon King History 1301 HW 2 8 AM What were the causes and results of the War of 1812? The war of 1812 was yet another war that the United States got caught up with. Even though neither side, United States, and Great British are far away from the clear cut victory, the American people still see this war as proof of the victory in terms of it was the beginning of a democratic experiment. The War of 1812 convinced the United States that they could now
Paul Baumer, in the midst of war realized the unimaginable; only soldiers experience the truth of war. All Quiet on The Western Front continues to bear educational relevance for readers today because of Remarque’s ability to convey the dichotomy of a soldier’s reality: the war front which brings the horror of mankind and the home front which brings the never-ending propaganda. If we see war in a simplified form, such as soldiers coming home and their lives improving, then mankind has done a great injustice. To start off, Paul and the soldiers undergo a major psychological transformation while entering the front.
The novel All Quiet on the Western Front Written by Erich Maria Remarque is not only a specific story of World War I, but also a criticism of the destruction and pointlessness of war. The book was banned in Nazi Germany because it was critical of German military, and the idea of the “Iron Youth”, a campaign that promoted patriotism and war to young men. The novel tells the story of soldiers who endure the terrors of battle, and shows how war destroyed and entire generation of men and irreversibly detached them from the normal world. Remarque uses his experience in the war to explain that the entire generation of “Iron Youth” were either dead after the World War I, or too separated from their previous lives after experiencing the hatred and
The horrors of war can be seen throughout most of the novel All Quiet on the Western Front. Although this novel takes place during World War I, horrors of war have been around since the beginning of war, and can still be seen here today. Almost all soldiers, regardless of which war they’re in, end up losing themselves. This is due to the experiences these soldiers have gone through and the horrors of war that they have seen or been a part of. War is a gruesome part of human history, and the different horrors often hidden within can tear the soldiers apart, both mentally and physically.
The forgotten are not truly forgotten they have only departed the mind and the lack of recollection has created an illusion of no prior existence. Thus, important events in history are made subjective and trivial through the perception of their lack of significance in the eyes of others as they refuse to recall past events. “They wanted nothing more than to forget what had happened to them (Chapter 10 page 192).” Therefore, personal advancement and the progression of a society is hindered as the truth is veiled as non-existent. In the book Ghosts in the Fog Samantha Seiple portrays a correspondent environment to such a degree that she stresses the importance of recollection and truth.
Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front: Horrors of War War. War never changes.
