2,000 highly trained British soldiers died compared to only about 13 American soldiers. At this time the British were the military force but they made so many mistakes it was hard to believe, one example is that they forgot to bring ladders to climb up the ramparts. The history book publisher wants to take out The War of 1812 just so we can save money. The publisher doesn't think The War of 1812 is necessary to learn because it wasn't important and it didn't help shape our future. We should keep The War of 1812 in our textbooks because it is a show of respect for those who had fallen, if we don't keep the war in it will almost be like all the American soldiers did was for nothing because nobody will know how we got where we are today
Dinner Debate: The War of 1812 Opening Statement We are having problems with the British which is causing us to suffer as a country. This is not fair. We, as Americans, believe in fairness, and we stand together, united, when the times get rough. The British should pay for their actions, but this is not the right time, we must be prepared first.
pd.2 The War Of 1812 In the War of 1812, the Us went up against the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain. In a conflict that would impacted on the young country’s future. The immediate causes of the war of 1812 were a series of economic sanctions taken by the british and french against the us as part of the napoleonic wars and american outrage at the british practice of the impressment especially after the chesapeake incident of 1807.
The war of 1812 was a war that was fought for the rights of Americans. The British were infringing on the rights of Americans and were not obeying the rules set. The war also brought some patriotism to the country, fighting for America came into people’s hearts. The actions the British took towards the Americans were the reasons why this war happened.
Imagine fighting in a war with 6,000 soldiers while you’re up against 243,000. Seems impossible right? Well in fact that’s what happened in the War of 1812. America had 246,000 less soldiers than the British. After The War of 1812, America realized it needed to upgrade and improve their tiny army.
The War of 1812 was a war that was caused by both the English and French imposing economic sanctions on the United States, the British impressment of American seamen into the Royal Navy, and America’s desire to expand (History). The countries of Great Britain and France were locked in a conflict and neither wanted the other to attain any supplies from neutral countries thus the implementation of economic sanctions on countries like the United States. The U.S. were also outraged by the fact that the British Royal Navy would commandeer American seamen off of vessels and force them to serve under the crown and not be allowed to leave. The British also encouraged the Native Americans along our western borders at the time to begin skirmishes with
So the war of 1812 is called the forgotten war I’m not really sure why though. So I don’t exactly know why I’m typing an essay on this but what I do know is that we had to study this war and decide if it should be in the history books or not. In my opinion I think the forgotten war should be in the history books because it’s a really interesting war and an important one to. It has a lot of events in it that have happened.
"The rights of persons, and the rights of property are the objects, for the protection of which Government was instituted." ~James Madison. The cost of the supplies used to make our history books has sky-rocketed. Some think that the War of 1812, also known as the Forgotten War, should be taken out of the history books to save money. Based on what I know and what I have researched, the War of 18122 should stay in our history books.
Another important objective for Americans they wished to achieve was to be efficient, such as not leading the leaderboard of casualties and loss of land through this War as well as gaining respect from other nations for America to expand businesses and increase their global income. All of these wanted war requirements for America are also valid arguments on deciding whether America won the War of 1812. For Britain, they aspired to counter the Americans and continue to succeed in restricting the United States trade economy as well as utilizing this opportunity to show the globe they are in fact one of the nation's top dominant country. Well, did the American side achieve their accomplished to their fullest potential or did Britain come out on top over America on the battlefield. In the end, there was no
However, the war of 1812 was a victory for the American
The War of 1812 is vaguely remembered by Americans today, very few are aware of who the enemy was or why the war was fought. One reason the war is so vaguely remembered is that no “great” president is connected to the war. The war was fought over maritime issues, the Orders in Council that greatly restricted American trading within the European Continent, and also the practice of the Royal Navy taking over American ships and forcing them to serve on the Navy ships. Although America had won most of its past wars, the War of 1812 was quite different. The nation was lucky to escape, they signed a treaty known as the the Treaty of Ghent which ended the war but did not a thing about the issues that had caused the war in the first place.
In my opinion The War of 1812 is often called the “Forgotten War” because of the issues that we’re faced during it. Also in my opinion the United States government would have rather forgotten this war because it was a shameful time for the government as a whole. Another thing about the “Forgotten War” is that it was extremely costly for the United States Government because “the British burnt down the White House, the Capitol, and other government buildings” (Shultz 2010). Yet, the War of 1812 or the “Forgotten War” was not only a shameful or negative part of history it also had a few good things that came from the War.
There is many things about the War of 1812 that Americans should know today. Although the name can be very deceiving, the war lasted a total of thirty-two months, not just a year. The famous Star Spangled banner was written by Francis Scott Key during this war. Although Americans have listened to this anthem hundreds of times, many probably don't realize that Key was literal when describing "rockets' red glare" and "bombs bursting in air". Americans should realize that Key literally described what he was witnessing.
To begin with, The War of 1812 to me is appealing because of the ambiguity. The reason most often given for The War of 1812 is the British Impressment of American Sailors; American Sailors would be kidnapped and be forced into British servitude. This disrupted American Shipping and is a blatant infringement of American Authority, but it’s a little more intricate than that. Second of all, there were many thousands of British sailors employed aboard American ships so many of the sailors that the British captured, were in fact, British. However, this gets to the larger point that Citizenship at the time was a pretty slippery concept, in particular on the high seas.
22. The War of 1812 was in my case a mistake because neither side of the war was ready. Britain had also seized american ships and we were being overtaken at Lake Erie by Canada from General Isaac Brock. Though after many failed attempts to take Lake Erie we had won the War of 1812 and gained Lake Erie. Though we won the war, it wasn’t over just two weeks laters the Battle of New Orleans had started but that was a whole different story.
A good consequence of the war is that it helped make America very independent. After the war of 1812, the British separated from America and left them in peace. They even left the American sailors at peace because they didn't want to take over the trade ships anymore. This helped America become a lot more independent just like they had wanted. when the British let the Americans be independent the American started feeling a lot of pride in their country because they battled
