What is your opinion, mental strength and agility or physical prowess, Which is more important? Is mental strength and agility just as important as physical prowess in sports? Most people would think If you did not have one of these components then you could not run. For an example, if you did not have mental strength ,you would think that this action is too hard and that I can not do that. If you did not have agility then you would not be active and you wouldn't have the power to be active. Aswell if you are not a physical person you are not a active person to begin with. To truly be an active person and want to build strength you need mental strength to push yourself, agility to keep going and to have the movement to do so and you need to …show more content…
In the story “why we run” a man named Heinrich compares human running to chasing dreams. For an example Heinrich said “we are inherently more like wolves then lapdogs because the communal chase is part of our biological makeup”(page 65). The author is saying that wolves chase instinctively, similar to human chasing dreams instinctively. All throughout the story “Why We Run” it's talking about running towards dreams and that's precisely what athletes do if they are serious about their …show more content…
This is because if you don't have a ‘yes I can do this’ attitude then you will feel better about that the action you are trying to do. Also you would think that that thet action is possible..you need agility to keep going and develop the skills to get to that particular dream. Therefore I think that mental strength and agility are far more important in the situation. Also “most of us chase after “antelopes”, and something we catch them. Often we don't but why do we bother to try?”(page 65) Heinrich said. The author uses the metaphor of the antelope to explain that running is about chasing dreams. My personal opinion is that it just depends on what type of activity you are doing. Is mental strength and agility more important than physical prowess? For physical running I would say that physical prowess is more important. I think this because you need to be athletic in some way to do something that involves a range of movement. So in this case I would think that physical prowess is more important
People may conclude that we control our destiny, while other think that our success is foredestined by our natural talents. Which is more reasonable? David Epstein and Malcolm Gladwell take two different approaches on this subject. David Epstein, the author of The Sports Gene, a non-fiction article, believes that innate talent has more effect than athletic practice. On the other hand, Malcolm Gladwell, the writer of the Outliers: The Story of Success, also a non-fiction article, disagrees and concluded that practice is more important than innate talent.
I believe that mental strength is just as important, if not more, than physical strength when it comes to athletics. If your mental behavior is not up to date, but your physical strength is, you will most likely still not be able to complete the specific task because you are not mentally ready. I have thought about this a little bit, but after reading “What Could Be Better Than a Touchdown?” and “Why We Run” it has made me think deeper into this subject. I honestly think, that if you are not mentally ready for something, then you will not be able to achieve that goal.
Do genetics really matter when discussing a person’s ability to perform in their respective sport? Or is it the amount of hours that a person has put into the craft? In “The Sports Gene” by David Epstein, the author attempts to answer this gene vs. practice question. Epstein does this by including examples of high jumpers, differences between average and world champion chess players, as well as what scientists call the ‘big bang’ of body types, to name a few.
Are both equally important or is one more important than the other? After reading this article you learned that mental strength is more important than physical prowess. The reason why mental strength is more important than physical prowess is because it is more important to think or know what is going to happen than be able to do what is going to
In “Should Everybody Write?” by Dennis Baron —a professor of English and linguistics at the University of Illinois— argues that a lot more people are writing due to technological advancement. Earlier technology such as the pen, typewriter, and the printing press have expanded who gets to write. Today, the computer and the internet allows anyone to be a writer as Baron simply states “thanks to the computer and the internet, anyone can be a writer: all you need is a laptop, a Wi-Fi card, and a place to sit at Starbucks” (840). People can “bypass the usual quality controls set by reviewers, editors and publishers” (841). While nowadays anyone can publish their writing without trouble it wasn’t always that way.
Imagine a Vietnam soldier coming home after fighting and trying their hardest for their country, to be given no appreciation or recognition. In the riveting text, “Always to Remember: The Vision of Maya Ying Lin,” this is all explained by Brent Ashabranner, author of this nonfiction text and a Veteran from a previous war. Ashabranner’s word choice of the two part title contributes to two main ideas throughout the text, creativity from the memorial itself and remembrance from all the soldiers who were lost in war.
Intellectual The mental aspect of football is just as important as the physical play. Decision-making and awareness are traits ever player must have. Having the mental advantage is a bigger advantage than physical traits. Peyton Manning doesn’t have the strongest or the most accurate arm in football, but what he does have is a mental edge over his opponents.
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”(Campbell). According to the article, “Why Remember," it attests that we must reminisce on the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers, who have died for their families and country to ensure that liberty is protected. The article declares that these soldiers considered their actions to be meaningful, and we should live up to that dream. Lastly, the article believes that by remembering those soldiers, we can acknowledge the difficulties and terrors they faced in order for peace to remain in Canada (Veterans Affairs Canada). In order to promote peace, we must first fathom that we must remember, reflect and most importantly learn from history.
(Heinrich pg.65). The author uses the metaphor of the antelope to explain that running is about chasing dreams. To chase your dreams the big thing you need is mental strength. You need mental strength to give yourself courage through ups and downs of the dream that y0u are trying to
Today, money has made many people believe that you need to have a lot of money to live a great, happy life. People in the world, especially the people who don’t have as much money as the ones that do, look up to people like popular idols, because they have money. People think they have a great living life with all the money they have earned during their lives. In the short story “Why You Reckon?” by Langston Hughes, the author uses diction, colloquialism and dialect to express the fact that just because people have the money to go out to eat somewhere expensive or buy the newest clothes, does not mean that a person is happy all the time and expresses how people in the town talks. Money is what makes the world goes round and everyone has come
One doesn't always run with their teammate during a race, but it's good to run with them at practice. It doesn't matter how
Innate Talent or Time and Commitment? Some believe that we are born with the skills to become successful whereas others say that we have to train our bodies and minds to become elite. Authors, David Epstein, writer of The Sports Gene and Malcolm Gladwell, of Outliers: The Story of Success squabble between natural born talent versus continuous training. But what some journalist forget, is that not everyone is born with a gift to be prosperous in a skill. Moreover, some are able to train their mind and body into becoming well rounded in a field of choice.
Climbing can help you get hide from people trying to chase and kill you. Being strong can also help you if you don’t have a weapon because you are stronger and more likely to win the fight. Being strong can help you with many other thing too like being able to lift up big things. Being able to lift things can help you if there is a heavy weapon and it is the only one left it won’t matter because you would be strong enough to carry it.
