Corruption is it a result of power? Yes, since power may instill a sense of entitlement, causing people to believe they are above the law and can act without consequence. The more authority a person has, the more likely they are to use it for their own benefit, whether that means chasing personal wealth or oppressing others. When people in positions of authority put their own interests ahead of those they should be helping, unethical behavior, abuse of power, and a breakdown in trust and respect can result. Power had a side effect, and that was corruption. Animal Farm, a book written by George Orwell, does an excellent job at illustrating these examples. Firstly, power can induce a feeling of entitlement, leading people to assume they are above the law and can act without consequence. This is shown in George Orwell's novel Animal Farm: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" (Orwell 90). Because the pigs have a higher status then the other animals and thus have more power. so they feel they are superior to other animals and may behave with impunity, which leads to a corrupt and repressive dictatorship.
