Animal Farm. To illustrate the lies and deception of the leaders and followers throughout the book, George Orwell uses 3 main themes; revolution, deception and equality. Paragraph 1/Revolution The rebellion starts with Old Major, the oldest pig on the farm, calling all the farm animals to a meeting at night to talk about starting a rebellion against the farmer. Old Major says “The life of an animal is misery and slavery.” Farmer Jones is the only real enemy and the only person stopping the animals from having freedom and to do as they wish. giving them a new perspective, to want them to rebel against the owner for their freedom. The animals had finally run Farmer Jones off the farm but he returned with more men to help fight back and regain the power of …show more content…
became " All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" All these commandments were changed to suit the pigs. It created a situation where the pigs were seen as part of a higher class and the other animals were lower class. Napoleon teaches the sheep to sing “four legs good two legs better” whilst all the pigs walk around on two legs showing they are smarter and they are better than the other animals. Another point that shows the lack of equality on the farm is the pigs need for the apples and milk to make sure they are smarter whilst small portions of food are handed out to other animals who are the hard workers. Conclusion George Orwell’s book Animal Farm highlights the themes of equality, lies and revolutions. He shows that equality will never be gained when corrupt leaders are in power. They use lies and deceit to sway the peasants and poorer class to gain power for themselves. Revolution may bring about change, but the change will never be good if led by corrupt leaders as shown in Animal Farm. This is an analogy for the Russian
Jones and the pigs. At the start of the film the farm is shown as an unfair and unhappy place and that’s why the animals decide to have a meeting in the barn. During the meeting old major discussed the “miserable, laborious and short” lives of his fellow animals. When Mr. Jones is running the farm the animals are worked as slaves and get just enough food to keep breath in their bodies and killed mercilessly when they are not useful anymore. Old Major relates a dream that he had the previous night, of a world in which animals live without the cruelty of men and they are free, happy, well fed, and treated with dignity.
Overtime Napoleon changes these commandments, for example he changed it to “four legs good, two legs better!”(Doc. A excerpt 3, Animal Farm Chapter 10), instead of “four legs good, two legs bad”. He also renamed the farm, Manor Farm; the original name. In the beginning all of the animals wanted to be free from the humans, but the the pigs slowly started morphing to human ways. Eventually they changed the seventh commandment to “ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS”(Doc
1) It has been a quite interesting reading, something I am not used to reading, but at the same time it has been cool and has made me interested in the events at that time of communism in Russia. Sometimes I have trouble understanding certain sentences or words but I use a dictionary to understand what the text seeks to narrate. Moreover, having animals as the main characters and a farm as the main setting helped me to understand more the story 2) Yes, many times people want to make changes favorable to one group of people, especially when we have witnessed injustices or unpleasant events, we seek to fight for change, however, it is sad to see that just as we can achieve change, we ourselves can act with injustice for other groups as well.
For example, the pigs thought they were more important or inferior to the other animals. At the beginning of the book, the pigs were decided to be the leaders because of their intelligence and their ability to read and write. The pigs wrote seven commandments on the top of the barn and one of them was “All Animals are Equal” page 24. This is important because the seven commandments end up being broken by the leader of the pigs Napoleon. At first,
During the Russian Revolution, Vladimir Lenin was obligated for changing Russia into the Soviet Union just as old Major tried to change Manor Farm into Animal Farm. Events and animals in the book are parallel to the events and people in the Russian Revolution. Animal Farm, which was originally named Manor Farm, is ran by Mr. Jones until the animals take charge. Mr. Jones takes poor care of the animals such as refusing to feed them. The animals decide to rebel against him and take charge of the farm.

The quote by Lord Acton, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” is a good example of what is happening in the book Animal Farm by George Orwell. The pigs immediately gain control and leadership of the farm and eventually start to abuse the power. The pigs abuse their power by changing the commandments, living in luxury, and by treating the animals poorly. First and foremost, the pigs start changing the commandments to fit their acts and desires. In the beginning of the story, the animals decide on fair rules that everyone on the farm should abide by.
Power can be a wonderful thing, which leads to success. On the other hand, misusing it can lead to corruption, depending on who is handling it. George Orwell in his book Animal Farm uses animals to show that humans abuse their power. The most significant topic in the novel is the abuse of power that keeps happening again and again. When unconstructive human qualities take over what is really important and overcome one's ability to govern competently, power is corrupted.
This relates to the theme because, throughout the story, the pigs have been in charge because they have more knowledge than the other animals. They were also really clever and could think of a way around every difficulty the farm experienced. ( Orwell 13) In the middle of the story, some crucial rules were being changed and the animals did not do anything about it. “ … pigs not only took their meals in the kitchen and used the drawing-room as a recreation room, but also slept in the beds.”
Power can have the persuasive action in undoing the moral ethics of one’s character. This can be seen throughout history, such as World War II and proven by the actions of Napoleon in the allegory, Animal Farm, by George Orwell. As Lord Acton said “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In history what was viewed as a villain, is never the same as the perception. A leader does not begin wanting to do wrong, they start with the best intentions, but power is a tricky thing.
They must not wear clothing, live in houses, or copy any of Man’s other “evil” habits; Third, No animal shall drink alcohol. Napoleon 's selfish behavior is the cause of the alteration to the fifth Commandment. When he and the other pigs get drunk, Napoleon 's hangover is a cause for alarm, more and more of the farm 's resources are diverted to the provision of alcohol for the pigs. 2) Humans, in spite of the fact that pigs ruled over the farm however the pigs are utilizing the strategies and the strategies that Jones used to take after and far and away more terrible. So fundamentally the pigs are currently people, they don 't contrast what so ever, and in the last part where the creatures at long last find what the pigs have gotten to be, as they see them drinking, sitting, playing cards and giggling with Humans, and also strolling on two legs and being dictators.
But, it turns into a disaster and Napoleon, one of the pigs, takes over the farm by manipulating the animals and gets guard dogs. The authors obvious irony and symbolism helps support the theme that history repeats itself because no matter what, the bad and good are constantly on war, and only repeat rather than make progress. Napoleon and Mr. Jones are paralleled two characters that help represent that history repeats itself. Mr Jones was overthrown by Napoleon, but Napoleon later acted exactly like Mr. Jones. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and man to pig, and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

Stalin, the leader of the Communist army in Russia and the most powerful man in the past uses violence to the ones that go against him. He has a style of dictatorship where many people suffer. Gunshots going across, people dying out, outcry, burst in tears with bruises all over the body, killing in harsh condition all occurs during Russian Revolution. The historical background of George Orwell’s Animal Farm is also the Russian Revolution. In the book, Napoleon uses dictatorship to order other animals, uses accuration, and give harsh punishment who block his way.
Some of the animals in the farm are more educated and literate than others, and this creates a class division among them. The smarter ones, such as the pigs, are considered as the higher-class animals and the less educated ones, such as the horses, are considered as the lower-class animals. As a result, the higher-class animals ruled the lower-class animals by managing the farm’s affairs. Because
