While she was doing that, a basket was passed around for contribution. When the young lady finished, she handed the scroll back to the facilitator. The moderator then started on the topic of discussion for the day which was “Boredom”. She called individuals by name and they introduced themselves by saying “My name is ______, and I am an alcoholic” and the members responded by saying “Hi _______, “Some individuals shared their opinion and some did not. It is so interesting when they talked about their experiences from other self-help groups before joining the one at this location. There is one particular member that lamented about, not being comfortable where he was attending groups before joining this one. He lamented about the same set of people who were called upon every time to talk. The same people who were called upon talked about the same topic over and over again. The members were happy to be in this self-help group from their discussion and attitude towards each other. It feels like family. I was called upon, and I introduced myself, and said why I was at the meeting. It was such a wonderful experience. At the end of the meeting, the facilitator asked to know who has been sober for 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. A young guy got up and said he had been sober for 90 days. Everybody applauded him and a token was given to him by the facilitator. At the end of the meeting we all gathered together into a circle, hands together and we recited the Lord ’s
The experiences these groups have allowed me to have really changed me, I realized that my anxiety became easier to turn into a positive thing. I spread the message of taking control of your own

In order to facilitate these kinds of results, the facility focuses on a variety of inpatient treatment programs that are designed specifically around the needs of the patients. Much of the primary residential treatment program is built around the 12-Steps of recovery. After a medically monitored detox, if required, the facility's counselors will use a variety of treatment methods to help patients identify issues and learn the coping skills they will need to avoid drinking for the rest of their lives. When apparent emotional or mental problems are creating additional issues, dual diagnosis treatment can be easily incorporated into the treatment process. Finally, the facility uses a very nice 4-day family program to infuse family members into the treatment process to help create a better support group for future
The group that this writer attended this week was an Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) open group that consisted of thirty-two individuals. The date of the meeting was on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. The group started out with one facilitator opening the meeting up. He read the serenity prayer and covered the 12 steps related to the premise of A.A. This took no more than the first five minutes of the meeting. One of the members then took the floor and spoke as the featured speaker talking mostly about how his life has been turned around since joining A.A. and that life couldn’t be better.

When I pulled up to the meeting I assumed there would be a large number of people talking among themselves, and using profanity. I also assumed that I would be overwhelmed with the smell of alcohol on their breath. Shortly after getting there I realized it was quite the opposite. I took a quick look around and realized they’re no different than me. I found myself taking a second look just because I was baffled by the situation.

The leader gave a heart warn personal describtion of what is was like to be addicted and how many people that were hurt due to her choices parent, friends, children, and loved one that she had to apologized to each and every person. This emotionl aspect to me is the heart of what the program is about the fellowship of the individual that that share the same conflict and the same pain. When it was time for everyone to go down the line and share their own personal story their very similarities in who they have hurt, stolen from betrayed trust, lied and even time spent in jail. When you take a glance at everyone when a story is being told you can see in everyone eyes the convention that they have for each other because they have been through it or are still going through it. These meeting become a place that welcomes you to poor out your heart and soul to make room for the forgivness that is needed in order for one to start the healing process.

Psychoeducational substance abuse prevention groups for high-risk but otherwise well-functioning individuals provide education and a means for developing “cognitive, affective, and behavioral skills through a structured set of procedures within and across group meetings” (p. 8). Abstinence-oriented recovery support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-Step fellowships are now instrumental for relapse prevention in the lives of millions of recovering addicts worldwide. There are also groups that aim for harm reduction rather than abstinence as members teach and support one another in an attempt to achieve moderation of substance consumption which allows for a more manageable and productive lifestyle. Network therapy is a recent innovation that focuses on developing a support system comprised of family members, friends, and others who can guide the addict’s activities toward the achievement of abstinence and treatment goals (Margolis et al. , pp.
Our group topics were engaging and discussed personal matters that affected our lives. It is nice to have a sense of group cohesiveness, altruism and universality, but despite the closeness it does make one realize in the end that our problems are still ours alone. At the same time, it is good to have support and have others that resonate with your experiences and know that life is difficult and that it can be unfair (Yalom & Leszcz, 2005, p. 90). Conclusion In conclusion this semesters group therapy, has been a great learning experience to understand the therapeutic elements of the group.

Because, be that as it may addiction is a problem that isolates abuser. When people relapse, they tend to go back into seclusion. This reversion often makes the person feel embarrassed and humiliated which typically make the problem worse. For this reason, the relapse prevention plan for group therapy involves evaluation tests designed to help them recognize negative feeling and the way they look at their situation.
Alcoholism is a physical and emotional dependency on alcohol, many research have been conducted that links the excessive use of alcohol with the psychological, and physiological environment of the user. It is an adaptive behavior which usually develops over a period of years, just like any other drug, the user will develop a tolerance and has to increase the quantity needed. The mental symptoms in conjunction with the obsession to the chemical are seen as a mental disorder. The abuser loses the ability to rationalize despite the negative consequences resulting from the abuse of the substance. The “spirit” of choice does not exclude a person from becoming an addict, in fact a binge drinker that drinks and then stops until their next episode
