One of the defining characteristic that can be seen in the Trinity Church is that it has ogival arches. The church has a flying buttress to resist the lateral forces that may push the wall outwards. The ceiling of the church are stone vaulted. It therefore, means that the roof of the church is heavily loaded and hence the walls may be affected by the force that is created by the heavy weight at the roof. To prevent the walls from been pushed outward by the force that is created by the weighty roof, the Gothic architecture requires that the structure be built with a flying buttress.

Every color had an emotional connection, as did the size and design of architecture. Buildings were reaching out of Romanesque and into Gothic style, going from compartmentalized and dark, to letting in light and being open. The first example of this is the Rayonnet style, which emphasized the letting of light, and means, “to shine.” The open corridor was a sense of harmony, and the invention of the flying buttress allowed the Chartres Cathedral to have the open flowing and harmonious design it has today. The flying buttress was a support piece that kept the architecture from falling inward due to lateral thrust from the wall.
Upon entrance to the Ebenezer church, the high-peaked ceilings immediately mesmerized me. The white, peaked ceilings were beautifully decorated in imagery of what appeared to be a flower motif repeated all throughout. The three windows at the top of the sanctuary brought lots of natural light creating a feeling of the presence of God. The architecture of the tall, elaborate stained glass held symbols of the church including the grapevine, wheat, etc. A worker for the National Parks Service told us that the stain glass windows had been donated the after destruction of the building, which is why names appear at bottom of every window.

In Raymond Carver’s “Cathedral,” written in 1983, the author points out that empathy and perspective are the only way to truly experience profound emotion. The narrator is struggling is sucked into his own comfort zone, he drowns his dissatisfaction on life, marriage, and job in alcohol. A man of limited awareness breaks through his limitations by socializing with a blind man. Despite Roberts physical limitations, he is the one who saved narrator from himself and helped him to find the ones vies of the world.
The painting appears to have levels of designs on both side of Saint Francis, giving impression of a library. This indicated to me and others that the teaching of religion is central to all group and class. Saint Francis is the main focus and the details shows his work during at time. (Finkelstien) Furthermore, the colors and details on the Saint Francis Altarpiece is aesthetically pleasing.
Within the pantheon almost all lines draw the viewers eyes to the Oculus. Another key element of the pantheon aside from the Oculus are the coffers, in addition to providing weight reduction within the dome the concentric rings created by the coffers radiate out from the Oculus carrying the ring down to meet the wall mimicking the Oculus (see fig. 1). Also present within the coffers are vertical line that converge at the Oculus. Both elements that bring attention to the focal point of the building. This trend continues onto the walls where the rectangular window like recesses in the walls are adorned with a pediment pointing upwards, likewise on the floor where rounded pillars are again capped with a pediment.
“The Calling of Saint Matthew” by Caravaggio was the Counter-Reformation movement. Light pours in above Christ’s head on the right and reveals stunning detail in the painting. Light glints of the coins on the table and the tax collector’s glasses. The expressions on the faces of the collectors are varied and convey recognizable emotion. In “The Art of Painting” by Vermeer, light shines in from the left and glints off the tiles, chairs, and the chandelier.

Often a person with the ability to see takes this for granted, leaving them only to see what is on the outside rather than seeing people, and things for what they really are. Gothic is a style of architecture which gained popularity for its tall structure with pointed arches which points into the sky above. It emerged somewhere between 12th and 16th century, as an after effect or better says an evolution of the Romanesque style (Figure.01). Gothic revival style emerged as an antidote for the fever of machine age, which later became the most influential style during the 19th century.
