Throughout all of my years at school, I have been constantly reminded by my parents that I must do my very best in school so that my college will be paid for, because they wouldn’t have enough money to put me through. The ASPMA Scholarship would mean a lot to me as it would help me greatly and enhance my college experience by allowing me to have the highest possible grades, help me grow into an involved, more social person, and relieve some stress that inevitably comes to every college student. Since I would rather not assume student loans during college, I must work if my scholarships don’t cover all of my school expenses. The more I work, the less time I will have to study, and the more stressed out I will be. I believe the ASPMA Scholarship will help me to have the best grades possible because with more funds, I will have to work less, giving me more time to study and less scenarios to worry about. As a person who is extremely prone to be anxious about all three of those areas, I need to have as much covered as I can so that I can enjoy my college years. If I were granted the ASPMA Scholarship, a large portion of the stress that I would have to experience because of money would be alleviated, and I would have more time to participate in stress-relieving or stress-reducing activities. This would help me to combat all the stress-related mental and physical problems that college students often go through, therefore thoroughly enhancing my college experience. I have worked very hard all of my high school years to reach this point of being considered for a scholarship, and I believe that if granted, the ASPMA Scholarship will greatly improve my college experience, and through me, possibly others’ as well. The best possible grades, expanding my social circle, and keeping stress down would most definitely enhance my college
Explain any special circumstances including sources of income or hardship that you believe are not reflected in your FAFSA. (159/250) Even though I believe that my financial situation is accurately represented by the information provided in my FAFSA, paying for college is still an enormous hurtle considering students pay tens of thousands of dollars when earning their degrees. While my parents have planned ahead to be a major financial component in my education, scholarships and other sources of income will play an equally important role to pay for the long education process that lies behind earning a Ph.D. Not only have I been rigorously applying for scholarships over the course of my senior year, but I also have the option to use the skills I 've learned in high school to help finance my education by tutoring German and teaching Clarinet. Despite this, scholarships still play the most important role in financing my education because they offer me the immediate financial support needed to approach
Most of my friends who are currently in college have between 5000$-20.000$ in federal and private loans. In many cases, besides for the loans, students have to work and study at the same time, which results in a stressful life for the student. In fact, many students are not able to finish their education because, since they can’t afford it, they have to work over their studies. Out of all the possible reasons to drop out of college, “the No. 1 reason many young adults drop out of college is an inability to juggle school and work” (Johnson). Finishing college is the most decisive forecaster of prosperity in the workforce and the inconsistency in college completion between children of rich and poor families duplicated since the late 1980s (McGlynn 55).
Jack Ma once said, “The world needs new leadership, but the new leadership is about working together.” This could not be more true at Boston University through its Kilachand Honors College. I believe it is because their approach of interdisciplinary problem-solving, is about expanding students’ world-views. In this program you are learning with different individuals who have different interest and fields of study. According to Pew Research Center, “Political polarization is the defining feature of early 21st century American politics...”.
Tell us about your sorority experience. I have had a fantastic sorority experience. I went through recruitment and joined a sorority with a completely open mind because I am the first in my family to participate in greek life, so I really didn’t know what all to expect. I am confident when I saw say, joining a sorority was the best decision of my life. I have had the opportunity to make amazing friends in and out of my sorority, meet impressive alumni at our international conference, and learn about and actively advocate for our wonderful philanthropy.
Trying new things, and taking an adventure has always been my mantra whenever I approach something unfamiliar and foreign to me. That is exactly what I did when I decided to participate in formal recruitment this year. Taking the adventure and next step to get involved with the Quinnipiac community and find my niche in this expansive community. My parents were skeptical at first of me going out for recruitment, nevertheless, they still encouraged me to broaden my horizons and get involved. However they do not understand the cost and commitment this organization possess.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
College stress can escalate when you consider the impact on personal finances, work priorities and relationships. Attending college by itself is very stressful and personal finances attribute to the increase in stress. A student must worry
In college, students experience a great deal of stress for the first time in their lives. In the past, they experienced little stresses that came with growing up, but now they experience stress from the real world and it can be overwhelming. The stress in college is more serious than any they had experienced prior because it is a time that will define the rest of their lives. For many, this is the first time getting a loan, the first time having to care for themselves, the first time studying for massive exams, and the first time that their decisions will affect the rest of their lives. The main types of stress college students experience are financial stress, parental stress, class stress, social stress, and self-invoked stress.
My parents always stressed how we should do our best and have to work for the things we want. Growing up I learned this doesn’t come easy. As everything college is upon us I have reflected on these principles and pondered how I will come up with the money for my college education. The clear cut answer is scholarships. You will see in this essay that I am a worthy candidate for this scholarship.
Some students must work while attending school due to financial reasons; while for others, it is an option. Although it is easier to focus on school completely, working while attending college can actually be extremely beneficial for future employment in students’ careers as well as life responsibilities. Balancing work and college can be challenging, but it is definitely not impossible. Working while attending college has many benefits which can be extremely rewarding for a student's future. For many, it will help to stand out from other students when applying for an
A part-time job will not amount to the cost of school and living. Although costs are universally high, some of the cost may rely upon the location of the student in relation to the location of the school. Although there are no solutions to the financial challenges of a college student, there are ways to cope with the issue. The best ways to limit financial stress are buying used textbooks, eating at home, applying for scholarships, applying for financial aid, and making a weekly budget plan. Scholarships and financial aid are given to people who qualify; however, these aids do not pose solutions to the problem.
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
Thus, stressors affecting students can be categorized as academic, financial, time or health related, and self- imposed (Goodman, 1993). Academic stressors include the student’s perception of the extensive knowledge base required and the perception of an inadequate time to develop it ((Carveth et al, 1996). Students report experiencing academic stress at predictable times each semester with the greatest sources of academic stress resulting from taking and studying for exams, grade competition, andthe large amount of content to master in a small amount of time (Abouserie, 1994). College students have many obstacles to overcome in order to achieve their optimal academic performance. It takes a lot more than just studying to achieve a successful college career.
