Every individual has a different background and it is our job as educators to take that into consideration as we educate our students. While reading the articles and watching the film, I realized that not all students are fortunate enough to have a stable household and some may not even have a roof over their heads at night. I was in awe by the amount of homeless youth that are out on the streets of Chicago every night. In the film, The Homestretch, it stated that 2,000-3,000 homeless youth were out on the streets every night. It also stated 19,000 students are registered as homeless within Chicago public schools. This made me realize the challenges they go through just in one single day. I began to realize that education is not their number one priority, it is surviving through the night. How can we ask students to do homework at night, when they don’t even have a place to go to? …show more content…
I started off by believing I will be an educator and that is it. I was wrong. I need to work hard to make my students’ futures better in an academic aspect and in a functional aspect. I want to create a class in high school where it educates students on basic job skills. I want to create a class in high school that helps students get ready for college and help them apply for different post-secondary education. I want to have a job coach come in and work with my students a few times a month. I want to provide a service where I provide meals for my students over the weekends if they need it. I want to find a safe and open home for my homeless students to live in. I want to show my students that they can get a job and/or go to college. These are all my goals and my roles that I want to contribute as a teacher. It is my responsibility to prepare all my students for a successful transition into adulthood. All of my goals that I stated can benefit my students and lead them into a brighter

I know that I have the potential and the intelligence to go after what I want in life, but of course all of that requires hard work and dedication. I am taking steps in my life now to better my future. I do believe education is key to almost anything and it will always be beneficial towards the future even when sometimes I don't see progress right away. I have many goals that I have yet to accomplish. I want to make a difference in the world, even if it’s a small group of people, I want to do something and be productive.
In the past I had volunteered at the Salvation Army so this was not my first experience in working with the homeless population. For that reason, I was able to tune into my own life experiences before my shift. I knew beforehand that I would not have the answer for everything, especially when it came to the referral aspect because I’m not fully aware of the resources we have nor the requirements for them. Which is where Liz would come in, I told myself if I ever had question I’d ask rather than give the wrong one. I also knew that I would have the ability to emphasize and engage when hearing their stories.
Youth Homelessness in America Every year, millions of people are experiencing some form of homelessness in the United States alone. Of those people who are experiencing homelessness, a large proportion of them is under the age of 24. Data has found that there are over 550,000 youth have experienced homelessness for more than a week over the course of a year (“Youth and Young Adults,” 2018). In many cases, youth homelessness can be prevented, but the lack of resources and services available to youth is limited. As a result, the issue continues to grow and affect more and more youth have to experience homelessness.
When people think of others who are poor and less fortunate, they assume that it is people who are living on the street, don’t have a family, and are classified within the homeless population. What they don’t recognize is that is not completely wrong or correct because it is known that not all homeless people live on the streets or don’t have family to support them financially and more. The first time I recognized this was when I volunteered at the Our Daily Bread Employment Center in Baltimore. After observing and interacting with some of the families and individuals who attend the hot meal program year round, I not only recognized that most of the people came from stable homes and have jobs but also that 1 out of 10 people were homeless by

I chose to find out more information about the requirements to attend school in North Carolina. The reason I chose this topic was because recently it was brought to my attention the a child could not attend school if they did not have an address. I talked about it with some of my friends and most of them also did not know you needed an address to attend school. This is an important topic that people need to be aware of, more so for the awareness of homeless children not attending school.
The drastic surge in the number of homeless families in the United States (U.S.) has resulted in an increase in the number of homeless students attending U.S. public schools (Elbedour, Mai, Rahman & Turner, 2015, para.1. However, the problem goes deeper due to the fact that our public schools are struggling drastically. They are struggling because they are having a hard time meeting the educational needs of our homeless youth. The main objective that this organization is trying to get us to understand is that social conditions have indeed impacted the factors of their education.
My intention is to be successful, and the first step of doing that is doing well in school, so that I can earn my place in a university. I am a mentally tough person, so when I set my mind to a task, I will complete
American dream A time in my life when I attempted to fulfill my dreams or reach my goal was to be a teacher Procter. It all starts when I was in 4th grade age 8 or 9 years old when a teacher was talking about how to help student and teachers, she was wearing a lovely blue skirt with a elegant black jacket with details she was giving out some candy chocolate it was delicious when I was young. I was an adorable person in 4th grade. I set this goal because my feeling shows that I want to teach new things or learn from it. Being a Procter is a goal significant to me if I learn the original stuff from the past it will show that I can improve my knowledge and maybe work my grade up.

Mom, The past few days on this journey in the wilderness, I have made an encounter with a sufficient amount of impacting people. Meeting compassionate, considerate, and loving individuals who have a great desire for what I am here for. Staying in a temporary trailer has become my living environment provided by Wayne Westerberg, who has provided me as his son. He also found me a job at McDonald's which was not in my plans, but I have traveled a sufficient distance to stop a while . I couldn't keep it away from my coworkers that I was on foot during this journey.
Since this is my first class I'll have to rely on my personal experiences at home neverthless, to say whenever I'm reading and I get to a passage where I am having a little difficulty understanding what the writer is trying to say I simply reread the passage over again until I feel as though I have some kind of understanding of what the author is saying. Another strategy that I use is when I get to a word that I don't know or understand the meaning I look up the word so that I could use it in the right context within the
I am alone and cold. My ragged patched sleeping bag does not keep me dry when it rains. The only thing left that I have is my father’s brown leather coat, embroidered with his initials in red J.S.N - Jeremy Stanley Noel – the coat my mother would use to cover my eyes with whenever my father would become abusive towards her. Although, they are both gone now. My mother passed away and my father disappeared.
