For my Diverse Field Experience this semester, I spent fifteen hours at the Mclean County Juvenile Detention Center. This particular center was occupied by about 8-14 juveniles at a time, all depending on court dates and occupancy of other nearby detention centers. This center usually had 3 staff members working the shift every time I went, which was seven to nine on weekday afternoons. I was intrigued to go to at this time because I thought it would be the time of the day were the juveniles had no school work or other obligations to do while I was there. I wanted to see what they liked to do in the free time before bed, the only stipulation being mandatory snack time at eight pm.

My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit.

My favorite season by far would be autumn, winter as a close second. Autumn has always been a season of peaceful business, beautiful colors, and the best flavor ever: pumpkin. With its dying plants that equal gorgeous drives and Halloween where we get free candy and can run around dressed as crazy people without anyone batting an eye. Why do people want to become teachers? There is low pay, long hours, little benefits, students have more rights than teachers. I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference and change every child’s heart that I come into contact with. Teaching is one of those jobs where you get to be an undercover angel, because you are able to effect so many different  lives by caring and teaching. You matter not only to one person in an office, but for 18-20 kids.

In my house, the division of labor is kind of simple just for the fact that it’s just my mom and I. Because my mom has a full time job and helps support me, I’m the one who does most of the household work. When I’m not in class, I’m usually taking care of the house in some way. I clean, cook often and make sure our home is habitable. I take responsibility for most of the house work because I don’t want my mom to have to put it the extra hours of work, known as the second shift, like she did when I was growing up. When I was little and my parents divorced, I lived with my mother.

Each of those jobs have taught me the qualities it takes to live in the real world, but I believe my personality is one of my greatness trait. I am a person who is sociable, friendly, and trustworthy. And the jobs I have had have only improved my personal traits, in every way.
