The boys realized that there would need to be a leader, which they elected Ralph because he was focused on escaping the island but yet stayed calm and made the boys feel safe which is something they were used to before getting on the island. The pigs are in the highest socail class at the farm so they believe they deserve the most power even though they do least amount of work.
