During the Holocaust, Jews were robbed of their identities and their humanity in countless ways. The Holocaust was conducted like an experiment about how many ways a person could be dehumanized, then killed. It is hard to understand how people could do such horrific and inhumane things to other humans. It doesn't seem humanly possible to put innocent human beings through such terrible physical and emotional pain. The Nazis deprived concentration camp inmates of their natural human rights, and of any other humanity they had left in them.
Even the process of arriving at the concentration camp was dehumanizing and inhumane. First, the Jews were forced out of their homes, which is a huge part of a person's identity. Next, they were loaded onto trains where they were with way too many people for one train car. The train rides lasted up to 10 days. People were so close to one another that they couldn't lay down. Also, there were no bathrooms, so the train cars smelled terrible. The passengers bodily fluids and defecations infected

The living conditions were inhumane. There were wooden bunks three rows high and the width of a large bed. Three or more people slept in one “bed”. They could only sleep with one blanket, and because of this, many froze to death. In winter, it could get far below freezing at night. The Jews were also given a striped uniform which they had to wear indefinitely without washing it. They were fed small portions of watery soup and small pieces of bread. Within a week or so, the concentration camp inmates were nothing more than skin, bones, and a number tattooed into their forearm. Also, there was always the imminent fear of death. An SS officer could shoot any inmate without reason. Death was the norm in the concentration camp. Many people starved, died of illnesses, or were murdered by the Nazis. They didn't know if they would live to see the next
The prisoners are starved, shaved, beaten, and treated as “filthy dogs,” all while working forcedly throughout the day. Eliezer and Shlomo had to move heavy stones to wagons without having strength left. Family members were separated just because they didn’t fit the age range. Many just died because they could not last anymore, like Wiesel’s father. There was this thing called selection.
What they did is they removed the bodies form the gas chambers and buried the victims in the graves with other victims. They also burned the bodies. They had no other choice be cause there was stacks and piles of bodies so they had to get rid of them so they just burned the bodies. The Jews in the concentration camp had a place to sleep but is was like a barn but was a bunk. The (barn) had man wooden beds and their were bunks of threes or four.
The holocaust was one of the worst genocides that has happened to one race in the last 100 years it lead to the deaths of 6 million to 17 million jews. There are not that many people still alive that got saved for it because of the exprempit they were put through the time they were in the camps dieing. One of many ways the nazis killed so many jews was gas chambers and pizza type ovens they had mounds of people from the gas chambers piled up in the millions. When they got saved they had to did massov graves and use a bulldozer to get all the bodys in to the grave. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel there are many instes of dehumanizing for example they had to be put in to the cattle cars.
If you were under the age 18+, disabled, elderly, and sometimes women; were sent down a different path into the gas chambers to be killed. Around 75% arriving to these camps automatically went right down to the chambers. Auschwitz was the size of 5,000 football fields filled with, moldy bread and bad soup along with death around every corner. In the autobiography Night by Elie Wiesel is about a holocaust survivor who wrote down what an awful experience. It gave
They were then herded like animals into cattle cars, eighty persons in one cattle car and they were taken away. They were in these cattle cars for twenty four hours; they were not given any food or anytime to get out. They were living in their own feces. Soon they arrived at Auschwitz,
“I told him that I did not believe that they could burn people in our age, that humanity would never tolerate it…” -Elie Wiesel ( https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/holocaust ) book that describes the Holocaust very well, through the eyes of the author Elie Wiesel, is Night. The Holocaust was an event in history that impacted millions of lives and souls. Through the book Night there were cases that demonstrated dehumanization towards the Jewish people, the selection, comparison to animals and other creatures, and starvation. At the arrival to the concentration camp, a selection was taken place and the Jewish people went a certain way based on gender, age, ability to do certain things, and health.
The Holocaust took place during the years 1933 to 1945. It was an attempt to remove all of the Jews, and other smaller groups such as homosexuals and Jehovah's Witnesses, which lived in the country of Germany. The events that took place during the holocaust were lead by a German man named Adolf Hitler. Schindler's List is a film about the Holocaust from a man named Oskar Schindler's perspective as a leader of a concentration camp. The film displays the five stages of the Holocaust.
There is no doubt about the fact that the Holocaust was a horrible time, but just how bad was life in the case of Jewish men, women, and even children. Life as they knew it changed forever during World War II. They were treated as extremely low class citizens. Just being alive was torture to them as the Nazis made their lives and every aspect of them into a living nightmare. Almost every situation relates back to the basics of life food, money, and a job.
During the Holocaust, death and suffering was everywhere. If one would do something wrong, be too young or too old, their life would be cut short. Anyone that was around to witness such devastation had no choice other than to simply let it happen. If they even tried to interfere, they would suffer the same consequence.
They were put into camps in the middle of nowhere. Their so-called “house” was poorly built, they had very thin walls, the house always leaked whenever it rained, they had to make their own furniture, the food wasn’t very good, and there was a fence keeping them in. Many people died trying to get out of the camps. Many innocent people were taken into these camps, a lot were even arrested.
What is it like to feel like less than a human? This is what the Jewish prisoners during the Holocaust felt like. Dehumanization makes people feel like they are less than human. The Holocaust was one of the most cruel events of dehumanization in history.
The Nazi regime killed about six million jews during the holocaust. During the 1940s German authorities targeted Jew and many other people, they would be put in death camps and forced to do hard labored. The atrocities the Jewish people had to face was terrifying. Going day after day not knowing if you will be the one selected to die;having your love ones die and suffer. Doing hard labor and very little food.
Dehumanization made people feel like they are worthless. When they came to the camp, they were dehumanized by giving less food and crammed them into barracks which had little space to sleep, they also stripped them and cut their hair. Nazi generals took their belongings and valuables from Jews. Jews and other targeted groups were tattooed numbers to get registered. On Eliezer’s first day of the camp, “Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky”(Wiesel 34).
This was such a tragic time in history and we should all be thankful that our world isn 't like this. The Concentration Camps were made because Hitler hated the jews and wanted to kill all and they were kind of brainwashing them to tell them it is a wonderful place to live. When they were making the camps the Nazis would go around just shooting people for no reason. So Hitler and the Nazis captured the majority of the Jews and put them into these camps saying they should be here and that they deserve to died and it is all their fault.
Jews were moved to the camps to either work or be killed (Veil 113). The Nazis also wanted to keep the children, but only twins because the Nazi scientist wanted to experiment on them (Veil 115). The Nazis had a plan called the System of Death where they told all the Jews that they were going to take showers and clean off and the Nazis took them to a medium sized room where they all stripped down getting ready for showers. The Nazis would then put some Zyklon B pellets into the chamber where it reacted with the oxygen in the air and turned into chlorine gas and all the Jews were dead in minutes. They then would force some other Jews to carry the bodies to the crematorium where the bodies would be
