No Hero's at Ground Zero September 11th 2001, was a time where an “Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States.” Two of the of the planes did make it to the buildings. Both buildings were struck around 9 a.m. “The third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.”(9/11 Attacks).

September 11th was a tragic day for the American people as we witnessed the economic and military symbols of our great country go up in flames. Hijackers overcame authorities on four different planes and used them to inflict insufferable damage amongst our people. Two planes crashed into the North and South towers of what was known as the World Trade Center that ultimately caused its collapse. The collapse killed thousands of people who were trapped in and around the building and even affected other structures within the city as debris fell from the buildings and filled the streets of Manhattan, New York. All of America remembers 9/11, whether you were eight in the third grade or eighty sitting at home eating ice cream or whether you lived in California across the country or Pennsylvania next to New York. New Yorkers had a whole different view than the rest of the country that saw it on television. They were actually there, and most of the Americans that were killed or injured were New Yorkers. This historic event affected New Yorkers in different ways, some lost their lives, some lost their spouse, and some lost their parents. Not only did they lose someone they loved or almost lost their lives, this event affected them long term.

Two foreign terrorists hijacked four planes that were flying above New York, two of which were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. A third terrorist plane crashed into the Pentagon, a paramount government building located in Washington, DC. This should be memorialized because the firefighters who tried to save the civilians were also killed. This day need to stay in history and be memorialized to support the families and friends of the lost

The 9/11 Memorial Museum sits on 180 Greenwich Street in New York City directly where the twin towers used to sit. It was made commemorate the tragic event that happened on September 11, 2001. This is the first year that this event will be taught in history classes in high schools across the nation since this year’s high school freshman class was not born in 2001. I was about four years old when 9/11 happened and although I don’t remember when it happened it has impacted my life. It has helped me to understand the concept of History besides what is taught in our textbooks.

In a disaster situation, the first instinct people have, no matter the circumstance, is to escape. The 9/11 tragedy was a moment where people had their guard up at all times. This was a time where life had strike to reality of time warfare with every person and country. Couldn’t trust no one that came to the U.S. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, were brave because the generations before us had to face what had happened and to what is going to happen. This had left the buildings torn instantly killing hundreds of many people, getting them stuck in the higher floors. This attack was the worst in America ever since the Pearl Harbor All over our nation saw a major impact of devastation in the face of the September 9, 2001attacks.

On September 11, 2001, numerous individuals entered the United States of America and hijacked four airlines in order to carry out suicide attacks against various targets located in the nations most prestigious cities: Manhattan, New York and Washington, D.C. (Kean, H. Thomas et al., 2004). Two of the four hijacked flights were intentionally flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in the heart of the Manhattan’s Financial District; the third flight was headed towards Washington, D.C while the fourth one crashed in Pennsylvania (Kean, H. Thomas et al., 2004). The attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001 are often referred to as “9/11” which resulted in triggering a major initiative in the United States of American to combat terrorism (Thomas A. Gilly., 2009).

On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the city of New York. On that fateful day, two airplanes were hijacked by terrorists and flew straight into the twin towers. Each tower fell completely to the ground, taking thousands of lives with it and injuring thousands more. Not only did that day leave thousands of families without their loved ones, it also left an entire city and an entire country to deal with the aftermath of the destruction. September 11th, 2001 is one of the worst tragedies in the United States of America. On this day, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks unfolded, shaking the foundations of American society and the world forever. These horrific events continue to evoke profound feelings of grief, loss, and resilience 22 years later. This unprecedented devastation in US history resulted in numerous changes that eventually led up to today’s society. While many are aware of 9/11, what they don’t know is what really caused 9/11 and its lingering consequences.

Men and women prepared themselves for another work day and school children settled in their seats for a day’s lesson. But before the mornings of people’s everyday life could begin, a tragic incident occurred, killing thousands of American citizens and breaking the hearts of many more. B. The attacks killed 2,996 people and injured over 6,000 others. Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four planes. Two of the planes (American airline flight 11 and united airlines flight 175) Crashed into the north and south towers of world trade center in New York City. One hour and 42 minutes after the crash of the planes both 110 stories towers collapsed resulting fire and the collapsing and damage to the other towers. Including the seven world trade center tower which has 47 stories.

Although the images of the event were still fresh in my mind I had no understanding of it. I often wondered as a kid why an airplane would crash into a building in broad day. These and many more questions went unanswered for year until the 6th anniversary of the attacks. My 7th grade social studies teacher Mr. Drummond gave answers to the questions I had about the 9/11 attacks.
