Friendship “A best friend is someone who you can talk to, who won’t judge you, loves you for you, and most of all, makes you feel like you’re worth something.” -Anonymous. For example in the novel Freak the Mighty, Max and Kevin truly demonstrated a strong friendship. They especially accept each other without judgement, and they made each other feel like they belonged. In fact friendship is very important because having a good friendship can help you get through hard times. Many people agree that trust is needed in a friendship. In Freak the Mighty Max and Kevin had to trust each other in the pond incident with Tony D. In this part of the book Freak gave Max directions, and Max followed those directions, during this incident Max also kept Kevin safe from rusting his metal leg braces. In other words Max and Kevin are always there for each other no matter what. Like when Kevin was there for Max when he was kidnapped, or when Max was there for Freak when Freak was in the hospital. Finally, Kevin’s secret was one of the most important areas of trust in the book Freak the Mighty. Because Freak …show more content…
In Freak the Mighty Max and Kevin went on lots of “quests” in their town. One of the first adventures they went on was when they went into the sewers at night and found Loretta’s purse. After Max and Kevin returned the purse they found out that Iggy and Loretta knew Max’s Dad, Killer Kane. Next Freak and Max went on an adventure to the hospital; Kevin guided them there from Max’s shoulders. Freak then guided Max to the hospital, and when they got to the hospital Freak showed Max where he was going to get his bionic body. Additionally when Freak talks he uses this Knight of the Round Table lingo, this is because he liked going on adventures or ‘’quests’’ as Freak calls them. This goes along with the fact that Freak was obsessed with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Going on adventures is a very good way to create
Max help Kevin out a lot because when they were in the street way but Max learned to stand up for himself and Kevin because he started to care about him and himself as well. He started to protect his friends and not be afraid of anyone. Just started to care about people and Kevin kept going on. Max would do anything for Kevin because he knew that Kevin had a problem like in the lunchroom when Kevin started choking and Max saved Kevin's life. It just shows how much Max cares about Kevin as a friend to him and not just a person but like a brother.
Because The Fair Gwen realized that judging a person by their demeanor was wrong Freak and Max bonded which lead to them becoming best friends.
Walter ignored the teachings of the Nazi party because he knew that Max was a human being just like he was; no more and no less. 1. “Don’t go, Papa. Please...first we lost Max. I can’t lose you now, too.”
However, there are many clues in the story that show that Kevin and Max are not troubled by their disabilities and that their teamwork is useful. One example of how Max and Freak worked together was when they were watching fireworks. Freak couldn’t see the fireworks because he was tiny, but with the help of Max, he was carried by him, and placed on top of his
Gene considers Finny to be his best friend. In this type of friendship there is an implied vow of trust, loyalty and sense of forever friendship "Finny could shine with everyone, he attracted everyone he met. I was glad of that too. Naturally. He was my roommate and my best friend" (Knowles 40).
Max and Kevin work together. They are called Freak The Mighty, hence the name of the book. Max really enjoys hanging out with Kevin. Both of the characters spend a lot of time with each other. They go on many adventures, so they must enjoy seeing each other.
At first, when they went to the same daycare, they only glanced at each other, and Max thought Freak’s crutches were cool but that was all they thought of each other. Later, once Freak moved in next to Max’s house, they got to know each other better, and they realized that they could be friends. Since Freak was smart but couldn’t walk around well, and Max was big and strong but wasn’t very smart, they realized that combined they were better than any person alone. That’s when they became Freak the Mighty. Freak rode on Max and used his intelligence to steer Max, and Max did what he was told because he relied on Freak.
Freak the Mighty is a book about two boys who both have disabilities. Freak or Kevin has a disability with growing and Max or Maxwell has a disability with learning. They were in the same day care class when they were young, but then Freak moved. When they were entering 8th grade Freak’s family, his mom and himself, moved back next to Max’s family’s, his grandparents and himself, house. They became friend and took care of each other disabilities.

What is a friend? A common response to this question seems to be someone who accepts another for who they are. Another less used response to the same question is someone who leave another better than they once were. These two half definitions of friendship come to gather to explain that friend is someone who takes another how they already are and leaves that better than their previous state. True friendship often adds loyalty to ones character resulting in acts of courage.
Title: The Friendship 9: A Symbol of Courage and Unity in the Civil Rights Movement Introduction The Civil Rights Movement in the United States was a period of struggle for social justice and equal rights, particularly for African Americans who faced systematic discrimination and segregation. In the 1960s, a group of young black students in Rock Hill, South Carolina, stood up against the unjust Jim Crow laws by engaging in a peaceful sit-in protest at a whites-only lunch counter. Their actions, known as the Friendship 9, became a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement and exemplified the courage, determination, and unity of those who fought for freedom and equality.
“Freak and I get to be in the same classes. He made the Fair Gwen go in and see all these people at the school, because I wasn’t supposed to be in regular classes.” (Philbrick 75) Kevin tutored Max in his reading and that also helped him stay in his regular classes. Even once Kevin is gone, Max has the confidence to write down the story as a tribute to their friendship.
How their friendship got started in the beginning of the movie was when Kevin came in as a tutor for Max because he struggled with reading. Both of the boys really didn’t have any friends, and they both stood out as different in their own ways. In the scene when Kevin was reading to Max, that’s when I noticed that their friendship was mutualistic because both of them were getting something out of it. After Kevin got done reading to Max, he asked him if he would take him to the fair to go see the fireworks and he would give him five dollars. Max took Kevin to see the fireworks at the fair and both of them had a great time together.
Max then depends on Freak to tell him where to go, and just focuses on the ground. When Max’s father showed up in the middle of the night to “take Max with him”, Freak does the brave thing of helping the police look for his best friend. As the police find Max and his father, Killer Kane, Kevin stands up tall and sprays Kenny with a concoction that burns when it touches Killer Kane’s eyes. After the struggle is over Kenny Kane is arrested and is sent to jail for the murder of Annie Kane, attempted murder of Loretta Lee, and attempted murder of Maxwell Kane. Many friendships are formed by helping someone in need, like how Freak helped
