The general social care council is a list of statements that describe the standards of professional conduct and practice demanded of social care workers. It's set at a national level so everyone should be following the rules set. Employers also have almost the same standards at a local level. Everyone who uses the service, and the general public, are aware of these standards and are aware of what they can expect from a service. They set down responsibilities for employers as well as employees, and also make sure that these rules are followed by taking appropriate action when workers do not meet expected standards of conduct. They do this by comparing workers to make sure they are meeting these standards. If they are not meeting these standards, they can be taken off the register. …show more content…

You as a worker are aware of these standards to influence your practice and so are the public, so there is no excuse for them not to be followed. The GSCC promote anti-discriminatory practice by making sure these rules are followed and taking action if they are not. Some examples of the rules that promote anti-discriminatory practice are: 1.1 – treating each person as an individual, 1.4 – respecting and maintaining the dignity and privacy of service users, 1.6 – respecting diversity and different cultures and values, 2.3 – respecting confidentiality, 3.1 – promoting the independence of service users, 4.2 and 4.3 – Following risk assessment policies and risk management policies, 5.1 – Not abusing, neglecting or harming users, carers or colleagues and 6.8 – undertaking relevant training to maintain and improve your knowledge and skills.
