George Washington's Leadership Qualities

The military adventures during the French and Indian War or Seven Years' War, Washington's generalship in the American Revolution, and his service as the United States' first president. In order to avoid troubles, Washington was granted for a commission by Britain in the Seven Years' War. The battle was known as the Siege of Yorktown, took place on October 19, 1781 at Yorktown of Virginia, was a crucial and determining point for the United States in the Seven Years'

The book 1776 of David McCullough is very interesting history book. It took you back to the most relevant history time of American history of 1776. The book captures your attention with well-written narrative and format. The New york Times reviewed the book as “ the book is nonetheless a stirring and timely work, reminding us that it is soldiers rather than tavern patriots and windy politicians who have always paid the price of American idealism and determined successes” in 2005. David McCullough is a native Pennsylvanian.

In 1783 Washington resigned as commander in chief and tried his hardest to resume life as a farmer. Although, he was very upset with the curent affairs of the country. With much hesitation and a large crowd of supporters, Washington was roped back into government. He was soon elected the first president of the United States of America. As president, Washington set many precedents including two terms of service, which was kept in place until President Roosevelt.

The American Revolution changed George Washington forever, both for what he stood for and the respect that he gained from the whole world. Washington led many battles throughout the American Revolution whether he won or not he was still known and feared for his perseverance. Once he set out to accomplish a task he would do it to the best of his abilities. Joseph Ellis summarizes the contributions made by Washington in the American Revolution in his first paragraph of chapter three with this thorough introduction "He was forty-three years old when he rode out of Mount Vernon toward Philadelphia. He was fifty-one when he arrived back at Mount Vernon on Christmas Eve, 1783 the most famous man in the world the cause he headed had not only smashed two British armies and destroyed the first British Empire, it had also set in motion a political movement committed to principles that were destined to topple the monarchical and aristocratic dynasties of the Old World."

For two terms, George Washington was the president of America. As the first president, Washington had to set the standards for what future presidents should do. George Washington grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia where his first job was a land surveyor. As a young kid, Washington never thought of himself being the president one day. At the first presidential election in 1789, Washington ran against John adams.

George Washington was indispensable in launching the U.S government. Although many opposed his political views at the time, Washington's leadership capabilities were unquestionable after his victory in the American Revolution. Our victory over Great Britain would have been doubtful if not for Washington and his judgement. Before becoming president, Washington led in drafting the Constitution, which is the foundation of America. When he became president, Washington believed in unity and a strong central power.

Having a president ended up being a great thing for America, it brought a sense of leadership without one person having too much control. Washington, Adams, and Jefferson each had a different way of growing up, they had distinct characteristics, and they lead in various ways. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father died when he was eleven years old, so he lived with his mother and would move around Virginia to stay with relatives. Washington was hoping to join the British navy, but his mother did not want that so he respected her wishes and stayed home.

George Washington the first president of the United States and was elected in 1789. Although he wasn’t worried about being president, he won all sixty-nine votes during the first round of elections. Washington wanted to be done, and go back to his hometown Mt.Vernon in Virginia. During his first few years of presidency, President George Washington faced many difficulties mainly because of the different political parties, national debt, and other foreign alliances. Even Though he faced many problems he was still very successful in the end who started the government off to be strong, and secure.

George Washington was America’s most essential man. He experienced the loss of his father at a young age, yet he became a successful plantation owner, a major in the Virginia militia, a politician, a general and the first president of the United States of America. Though he experienced many adversities in life he was able to take these experiences and use them to better a country. George Washington created a new government for the United Sates of America in his own image which was moral, fair and responsible because of his own life experiences as a general, politician and entrepreneur. George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Monument, Virginia. The son of Augustine and Mary Ball Washington. He has five siblings, and the oldest of his siblings. He grew up in Potomac River, then moved to Mount Vernon, which at that time called Little Hunting Creek Plantation, then moved to Ferry Farm. Living in Virginia as a child, when he grew up, he never went to college, but still become part of the colonial army and what all of us know, the first President of the United States.

He had to work with Congress to start building the foundation of the country. America was deep in debt, there was no top judiciary system, and on and on. He gathered a cabinet to support him and successfully solidified the future of America. John Adams, his vice president, stepped up after Washington. He was a Federalist, opposite of his vice president.

No American today could imagine a country without a president, or without Washington, because if the patriots had not had George who was “…determined…to cross the river & make the attack upon Trenton…” (Washington), the United States of America would not even exist. Washington never got beyond elementary school, however due to a skill in math, got a job with Lord Fairfax, a powerful businessman (Knott). After inheriting Mount Vernon because of his brother’s death, Washington joined the British Army (Knott).

The antebellum period took place before the civil war. During this time period, one can thoroughly see accomplishments of the presidents in charge during that time. There is one who stood out the most based on my criteria and his outstanding achievements and it was George Washington . He was one with the most accomplishments, foreign policies and impacted the union the most after his presidency. Being in charge of a nation is never easy no matter how much experience or prepared one is, issues are always going to arise whether it be political, economic,or social issues.

George Washington completely shows the heroic traits of bravery, cleverness, and determination by leading his men similar to Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey. First, Washington has the trait of bravery when he led his troops and he stood in the front towards the oncoming enemies. This trait is similar to Odysseus because he took risks to achieve his goal. For example, Odysseus also has the trait of bravery when he reasoned with the Cyclops and when he stood armed on his ship during the encounter with Scylla.

George Washington and Barack Obama had different views about how America would be like. On April 30, 1789 George Washington gave his inaugural speech and oathed to be the first president of the united states. On January 30, 2009 Barack Obama gave his inaugural speech. During George Washington speech senator William Maclay of pennsylvania remarked that George Washington looked agitated and embarrassed. During Obama's speech he looked confident and he acknowledge the crowd very well.
