Dear Dr. Kennedy The reason I chose to write my essay on John P. Foreyt’s “Weight Loss Diets: Are They All The Same?” is because I have successfully lost weight by doing a low carb diet, so I can relate to the topic. The readers of my essay include my fellow students and you, my professor. I think my paper is interesting to the reader because I have added my own opinions and experiences to my work. Both peer responses I received suggested that I make a clearer thesis statement, so I added a little more

In the last paragraph of page two in the article, I learned that low carb diets can produce more weight loss than low-fat diets. Although over time it seems you keep the weight off easier with a low-fat diet. Low carb diets apparently have no short term negative health effect, but over long term they can. This makes sense because low carb diets are high in fats and a high fat intake over a long period of time cannot be healthy. On page three in the second paragraph Foreyt references a paper by Sacks and Collogues and according to them you can be successful at any weight loss plan if you stick to it like you are supposed to. The reality of it is that anyone can lose weight on any diet. The best way to select a diet is to research it. Look into other people’s success on different diet plans and decide which one works best for you depending on your personal tastes. Like I said at the beginning of my paper, I have successfully lost weight on the low carb diet plan because for one I wanted to get to my goal weight bad enough and for two I like meat and vegetables that are low in carbs, so I knew low carb dieting would work for me. I have a good friend who does not like meat and only likes potatoes when it comes to vegetables, so it is safe to say that a low carb diet would not work for her. So, my advice is to do your research, figure out which plan works best for you and make sure you want it bad enough to succeed at it and you will lose weight with
“We should eat less of any particular actual food” (51). People consider that they can lose their weight just by reducing their total consumption of fat and completely undermining the portion of other food they consume. To remain hale and hearty,
There are many diet and workout programs on the market, but Jonny Bowden 's reputation makes his stand out above the crowd. He is known as 'The Rogue Nutritionist ' or the 'Nutrition Myth Buster ', because he isn 't afraid to give real advice that may conflict with some popular beliefs around nutrition, weight loss and health. Thanks to his willingness to look for answers and discover unknown truths, his advice has helped thousands of people get back on track with their health. He has a knack for clearing up the confusion around a subject and spelling out the simple rules that are known to result in better health.
Created by Dan Long, it has overtaken many other weight loss guides that came long before it. If used correctly, this program will help you to shed the excess pounds, stabilize your blood sugar levels and reduce your risk of getting many serious health issues which are linked to obesity. What makes this program so unique is that it’s very easy to follow. You’re allowed to eat whatever you want for 3 days in a week.
This appeals to our physiological needs because naturally, humans need to eat food and to hear from a professional that there are other influences outside of food that are giving cause to the obesity crisis gives Americans a slight sigh of relief when it comes to the degree of toxicity of our foods. Furthermore, that people eat a more wholesome diet versus those that do not, tend to be healthier than that live on fast and processed foods, there are also stark differences to recognize between these classes that should be taken into account as well such as the tendency to engage in exercise, air quality, and other health considerations such as smoking and
Lee Fulkerson’s Forks Over Knives prevents a radical approach to helping America get healthy and avoid health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. These health issues have plagued America since the invention of fast food and have made America one least healthiest countries in the world. However, the film’s aversion to taking modern medicines and instead relying on a plant based diet to avoid new health issues and reverse existing health made me question the practicableness of having an entirely plant based diet as the film recommends. Additionally, critics of plant based diets such as Connie Diekman at Washington University feel that plant based diets will leave the deprived of nutrients that milk and dairy provide such as calcium. However, the two academic studies I found through my own research support that a plant based diet does lower your risk of heart attack and when done right, does not leave your body lacking critical nutrients.
Often, people turn to dieting. There are several different dieting strategies available for one to try. John P. Foreyt discuss two types of diets, low fat and low carbohydrates (2010). While discussing the two diets, Foreyt provides great detail and adequate explanations. He then goes on to explain why he believes the one diet is better than the other.
In chapters nine and ten, the author Gary Thomas does not hold back in his presentation for the need of physical fitness. The information and arguments he provides in these two chapters have applicable truths in them for the reader. I admit that as I read his material I had mixed thoughts, and I agree with the author on several points. Like the author I believe that physical fitness is vital for healthy living. However, there were moments I found dissonance with the author.
In the article “How Junk Food Can End Obesity”, David Freedman talks about the processed food’s role in American obesity. He think processed foods should not be consider as one simple problem. And processed foods are not the only reason which cause Obesity. Freedman came up his argument with two event of his experiences with foods which were unprocessed fruits and vegetables.
All you ever wanted to know about the Ketogenic Diet Contrary to most weight loss diets and programs, a ketogenic diet works on the principle of consuming less of carbohydrates. In a ketogenic diet, you are made to eat less carbs so that your body goes in to a state of ketosis. Ketosis involves breaking down of stored fats in the liver in order to produce energy for the body. Hence, your stored fats get used up and you lose weight faster. Fats do not get deposited in the body and this makes you leaner and healthier.
Referring back to the tone shift in A Call for a Low-Carb Diet, the piece goes on to bring up the statistics that have been discovered that favor the low-carb lifestyle over the regular one. A Call for a Low-Carb Diet has a quote that says, “The notion that dietary fat is harmful, particularly saturated fat, arose decades ago from comparisons of disease rates among large national populations. But more recent clinical studies in which individuals and their diets were assessed over time have produced a more complex picture. Some have provided strong evidence that people can sharply reduce their heart disease risk by eating fewer carbohydrates and more dietary fat, with the exception of trans fats.” This is an example of
This is actually one of the most popular diets out there for people who are trying to lose weight. It is known to be a low-carbohydrate diet. This involves consuming as much as fat and protein as you want, as long as you avoid foods that contain too much carbohydrates. This was promoted by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in
I’m not a nutrition expert or a scientist, just a curious journalist hoping to answer a straightforward question for myself and my family.” About his researches, he said, “The deeper I delved into the confused and confusing thicket of nutritional science, sorting through the long-running fats versus carbs wars, the fiber skirmishes and the raging dietary supplement debates, the simpler the picture gradually
Tips for Healthy Dieting. Avoid Fad diets or also known as “pitfall diets” are diets that offer short-term weight loss methods that are meant to fail. Many people unfortunately fall for these diets. Often they are overweight people that are so desperate to lose weight they try all kinds of weight-loss plans without really doing any research on them first. Before you start any diet plan you should make sure that it is well balanced and safe and will result in long-term weight-loss.
Our society has helped create a definition of dieting that is not only harmful to the body but also does not work. The proper definition of a diet would be the food and drink a person consumes daily and the mental and physical circumstances connected to eating. The public’s definition of a diet is to restrict oneself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight. Those who engage in this sort of dieting begin with the wrong mentality. They believe by undertaking a diet they will lose weight and keep it off, when in reality most people fail with diets.
One reviewer stated that she was trying to find a diet program which is simplistic but delivers a whole lot in manner of dieting success. She wished a product that will match her busy lifestyle. The product created by John was the perfect option for her desires.
