The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, support staff, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

She had shared these notes with me in reference to a conversation I had with her about math in elementary schools. We had discussed the importance of assessing what gaps students may have in math concepts upon advancing to another grade level at school. We had a lengthy discussion about understanding if a student was missing a key learning concept when developing number sense, it could have a direct impact on their learning potential in advanced grades. More importantly, we noted how going through the process of quickly assessing what a student knows and understands about mathematical concepts and principles through pretest before introducing new concepts would help us identify where the breakdowns were so we could develop effective reteaching to catch them up with their peers. She shared her notes from the conference she had attended and asked for my thoughts. After reviewing her notes, I agreed he information could prove beneficial and she had a copy sent to me. The artifact is evidence of a collaborative effort to share information which could directly impact and enhance my future students learning …show more content…
Therefore, I understand the importance of working closely with parents, other teachers, administrators, and community members to ensure a learning experience that addresses the whole student, both academically and personally. Parents’ involvement in the students’ learning can be very beneficial in increasing the students’ academic achievement. Partnering with parents will help me understand about their goals and expectations for their child. Additionally, it will open communications to help us work as a team to support the student’s needs at home with homework, improving any behavior issues, and bridging cultural gaps which may exist. Secondly, working with other teachers and administrators will help me broaden my instructional strategies and provide me with valuable insight and knowledge they can provide. Being a new teacher, it is easy to feel unsure of how to handle certain situations or to understand if my learning objectives are meeting the needs of all my students. Collaborating with other teachers will help me improve my own skills and techniques, as well as enhance my own lesson planning through the sharing of wisdom and ideas. Finally, strengthening ties within the community can build lasting support in developing enriched programs and opportunities for
The second domain in the Florida Principals Leadership Standards is composed of three different standards. The first of these is Instructional Plan Implementation and is about how an effective leader must collaborate to develop and implement an effective instructional framework that aligns with the required standards and meets his/her students’ needs (“The Florida Principal,” n.d.). Due to the variety in options that are available to align instruction to a pupil, given that the instruction will be adjusted to his/her needs, I feel that the situational leadership approach will be able to be implemented in this situation to create better results as “different situations demand different kinds of leadership (Northouse, P., 2016). The different leadership styles that make up the Situational approach can be tied to this standard by connecting the necessary leadership style with the supportive and directive behaviors in the task that is performed. As an instructor, I will spend time in the S1 category of the Situational Leadership Model as I make use of a “common language of instruction”, spend time between the S1 and S2 categories by “communicate the relationships among academic standards” and by being engaged “in data analysis for instructional planning and improvement”.
Over the course of this first semester, Emily has actively participated in classroom discussions, adding thoughtful and detailed remarks to both the topic of discussion
Describe how your leadership beliefs and practices will promote inclusive practices and outcomes at West Linn High School. * I have seen the ways that non-inclusive practices can result in lifelong struggles. My own mother began school in the US as an English language learner, and language barriers consistently stymied her family’s ability to advocate for her. Consequently, she fell through the cracks of an education system that failed to support her. The effects of this early reality have reverberated throughout her life.
"Team Work. " Educational Leadership, vol. 73, no. 8, May 2016, pp. 24-29. This six-page excerpt from a teaching magazine emphasizes the success that teamwork within the school system provides not only for the teaching staff, but for the students as well. In a study of five different poverty urban schools it was found that teachers do in fact benefit from working in teams.
This collaboration not only helps to develop the entire plan for the year, but it also empowers to the teacher or staff member by giving that person a voice. When all individuals play a role, the implementation of the plan is more likely to succeed; thus, the pivotal
It is also important that we as educators take into consideration that each child and family comes from a unique background with distinct needs. We must work together with other individuals and agencies in a collaborative approach for the benefit of all children and their families.
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
Our leaders build other leaders, and are themselves continuous learners modeling exemplary leadership qualities; at times making it appear almost easy. It was during the Principalship Course that I not only knew I could, but now knew I wanted to become a principal. Many of my “ah ha moments” came in the form of connecting the puzzle pieces and seeing the decisions and actions through the new lense as a leader. The Virtues of Leadership article confirms student and teachers’ need to make sense of where they belong in the cultural framework of a school system (Sergiovanni, T. J., 2005). I always knew York Suburban School District has models of excellence throughout entire staffs, faculties and administrators.
Conditions Improving Teaching Seed (2008) offers five conditions for improving teaching that can increase attracting, developing, and retaining teachers to meet the high quality standard and ultimately improve student achievement. The first is collaboration
As the field of education and learning evolve, the demand for efficient, effective and competent teachers also increases. Although teachers are now considered as facilitators of the learning process, there is still a great need for teacher leadership. Today, a teacher is not only someone who imparts knowledge to students; he must also be a leader in the classroom. Teacher leadership plays a significant role in the holistic development of students. Thus, all teachers should and must possess leadership qualities that will help students to nurture their potentials.
Effective leader build a strong and successful setting for children. Strong leadership, ethical practices and professional knowledge provides high quality educational outcome. I have strong leadership in my program and it builds respect, parent, teacher and community collaboration and a trusting and well nurtured relationship between teacher and students. Challenges and expectations are provided to help develop the highest outcome of education possible for all children. How do you envision this issue impacting your future work with children?
Giving a child an opportunity to share or teach their family what they learned and seeing the families’ interest opens the door for the child to truly absorb and internalize the content. All of these strengthens the bond between parents, teacher, and students. And also, it creates an enhanced learning
Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. I set high expectations the students to achieve high goals. Teaching to me opened doors to many students’ lives.
Therefore, students need to be helped perform at their level of ability in order to succeed. Building a strong parent-teacher relationship will benefit the three participants; the parent, the teacher and most importantly, the child him/herself (Holdaway, 1979). Continuous contact and help from the parents will help the educator relate his/her classroom environment with what the students experience within their home environment. Therefore, this puts the responsibility on all the adults present in the child’s life to ensure that the experiences that the child is facing are helping him/her extend his/her learning achievement (Dombro,
Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
