n Mini Habits, Stephen Guise talks about his personal experience with his first mini habit, “the golden push-up” (Stephen Guise, 2013, p.13). This book is structured into seven major parts that will help you “permanently add healthy, habitual behaviors to your life” (Guise, 2013, p.4) using one simple step at a time. This paper will review my explanation of book selection, identification of motivational topics, professional corroboration or contradiction, and my personal impact. Book Selection There is no specific explanation for my book selection. I chose to read Mini Habits, by Stephen Guise because the cover and title captured my attention. In comparison to the other books, this book had a captivating book cover. The design consisted of a yellow …show more content…
Lao Tzu stated that “the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” (Guise, 2013, p.10). Corroboration or Contradiction Motivation and willpower are two different mindsets but at the same time, they are codependent. “Baumeister and Vohs (2007) argued that after people depleted their self-control through prior acts, they may still be able to exert further self-control effectively if their motivation is high” (Gröpel & Kehr, 2013, para. 1). The Technical University of Munich conducted a research that demonstrated “willpower can only take us so far in completing a taxing task, we also use unconscious motivation to get things done” (Chan, 2013, para. 2). In contradiction, a study by Veronika Job and colleagues in 2010, suggested that “willpower may be plentiful” (Job, Walton, Bernecker, & Dweck, 2013, para. 2). The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science suggests that willpower is a belief of one’s own perception. Their experiment “indicated that a person’s belief that willpower can be depleted has more bearing on the theory of their own perception of willpower.” (Yirka, 2013, para. 1). MINI HABITS BOOK
In the nonfiction book, Deep Work, Cal Newport persists to convince the reader of the significance of “deep work” and the pollution coming from “shallow work” in today’s evolving economy. In order to begin instructing on how to incorporate deep work into our daily lives, Cal Newport first proves his credibility by pointing out how famous people in today’s society are thriving. By spotlighting numerous people like Bill Gates, Carl Jung, Woody Allen, and even himself , Newport demonstrates the obvious difference and magnitude of the effect isolation from the noisy outside crowd can achieve. In each scenario, every person is greatly benefitted from some form of isolation from distractions or deep work.
In the book Drive by Daniel Pink, argues that carrots and sticks (motivation 2.0) don’t work anymore, we have inhale psychological need for autonomy, mastery, and purpose (motivation 3.0). Motivation 1.0 was about survival, and in motivation 2.0 was built around external rewards and punishments. For instance, it has three incompatibility problems with our modern world how we organize what we do because we are intrinsically not only extrinsically motivated. Also thinks about what we do because economists are finally realizing that we are full-fledge human beings. In addition, most important how we do what we do because work is often creative and interesting rather than boring.
Determination are the wheels that keep us moving forward. Even if a wheel goes flat, we can reinflate it to reach our goal. Perseverance throughout life is necessary because persistence impacts one’s success and diligent efforts. To begin with, endurance promotes accomplishments in the pursuit of personal goals.
Willpower helps us choose how we behave and react to certain stimuli. Instead of being captive to temptation, willpower gives us determination to pull through and not fall victim to adversities. The Beauty of

Like an assignment or presentation which makes me so nervous I will think of the punishment which will result in a bad grade and since I don’t want a bad grade I will push myself to do it so that I don’t fail. Pink suggest that Motivation 2.0 may still work in some cases but not all and that’s where the bugs are in that operation system (31). I agree with Pink since I’ve already encountered some situations that require Type X behavior which is led by Motivation 2.0 and also some Type I behavior which is based of Motivation
The Tuskegee syphilis experiment was an infamous that study the natural progression of untreated syphilis through African American men. These people were told that if they participate in this experiment they would receive free health care from the U.S. government. Around 400 men or 399 exact had syphilis while the remaining 200 didn’t have the disease, a total of 600 men were enrolled in the study. However, later on those who was infected wasn’t told that they had it, neither was he treated with penicillin which later on became the treatment. Due to this reason many of the men that participated in this experimented passed away due to syphilis.

I’m a person that is constantly doing something. Whether it’s marching band or working at Kumon, nothing satisfies me more than getting things done. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember. To me, I can’t will myself to be stuck doing nothing unless I’m sleeping or eating- it just isn’t possible. Although it’s a trait that some may not admire, it’s something I appreciate in the plethora of my personality traits.
Group A: "You don’t know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice" ~ Bob Marley This quote is an intrinsic motivation because it talks about the internal and the behaviors within yourself. The meaning of this quote is that it takes a situation to see how strong you really are, problems that you will push you to your breaking points where you will not know how to handle the problem. That is why you will find the strength that you will need to handle that problem.
Individuals with high PWE remained intrinsically motivated regardless of receiving positive or negative feedback, and individuals with low PWE spent more free time with the task after receiving negative feedback, indicating a fear of failure. These results build on the previous study and also suggest that individuals with high PWE rely more on internal, intrinsic factors to measure success and remain motivated, rather than external, extrinsic factors such as feedback from peers or
Wolf proposes the sane deep-self view states that for an individual to be morally responsible for some action they have committed, if and only if (1) this individual is able to control that action by their desires, as well as such desires are governed by their deep selves, and (2) the individual’s deep self is sane. Consequently, Wolf’s proposal evidently proves why JoJo cannot be held responsible for his actions committed. Hence, JoJo is an insane individual. For one to be considered sane, Wolf claims one must have an idea of what one is doing and to have beliefs/values that correctly correspond with the way the state of the world is. JoJo’s beliefs and values essentially do not match up with how the state of the world is and thus he is considered insane and is suffering
In my 7 habits profile, I discussed wanting to work on two habits for specific reasons. The two habits that I talked about working on are my P/PC balance, and habit three. I still want to work on these because they are important to my physical and mental wellbeing, which are both very important to me. I still want to take action on both of these because improving my health and having a healthy life is important to me. There are many benefits to having a healthy mind, including better relationships with most people, better mindsets and healthier body, and better impressions on people which could help with job interviews.
For this reason, don 't keep yourself in a constant state of willpower depletion. The president of the United States wears the same suit every day, because he doesn 't want to deplete his willpower making choices on what to wear or what to eat. Vital decision-making is best left for more pressing matters. Charles Duhigg author of The Power Of Habit affirms, "Willpower isn 't just a skill. It 's a muscle, like the muscles in your arms or legs, and it gets tired as it works harder, so there 's less power left over for other things."
Context Motivation is regarded to be an important tool that can be utilized in accomplishing a given task. However, lack of motivation could result in inability to accomplish the task of poor performance. In this regard, it is worth noting that there are various factors that contribute to lack of motivation among individuals. Additionally, while an individual can be motivated at other times, some circumstances can make him or her to lack motivation. This reminds me of the time when we were doing group work that I realized that most of my group members were not motivated to do the assignment.
