My Life Career: My Career As A Doctor

Pursuing a career in medicine will enable me to directly impact the lives of individuals and communities, particularly those who face barriers to quality healthcare. In addition to that, going to college/university allows an individual to go through a transformative journey and shape them into knowledgeable and compassionate leaders of society. Higher education would also equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly competitive world. It would empower me to become an advocate for change, challenge stereotypes, and become a role model for those similar in my shoes. However, by pursuing a college education, the one promise I made to myself was to make my family proud and support them along the way.

Many people consider a job in the medical field most likely because it is widely accepted that if you are a doctor then you are rich. What turns most people away is the eight years of college and a lifetime of loans to pay off. When I was younger, I always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon, but in fourth grade when you hear, you will have to go to four more years on top of the twelve you have left, your hopes are probably going to die down. I haven’t really thought about a job in the medical field until this year when I went to an orthopedic walk-in for an x-ray. The person I saw was a physician’s assistant, my mom proceeded to tell me how they are not very different from someone with a Ph.D., they can prescribe medicine and are able to choose

Growing up surrounded by several people in the medical field, I had always pondered what I would be when I grew up. When I was about eight years old, I was determined to grow up and be a cardiologist, just like my uncle. At a young age, I was fascinated by the heart, it interested me that one thing controlled so much in the human body. However that dream changed as I grew older, as much as I would love being the one to save someone’s life, I realized that responsibility was entirely too much for me. I have had many different dreams about my future; such as being a basketball player, a teacher, and even a model.

Why do I want to be a physician assistant? I can answer this question in some many ways because I have so many factors that help influence my decision. When I was born to age twelve there was a big hospital on the same street I lived in, I got to see everything from small cuts to pregnant women delivering their child or “accident” victims like my parents called them my entire life. I would sneak into the hospital to see how people who got hurt where been treated, sometimes on little stuff like stitching up a cut, nothing too bizarre, they would let me watch and they would tell me how what they were doing was helped, and I would go home and practice on my brothers or my uncles, basically anyone that would indulge me at that moment.

I have always, like my dad, wanted to major in something in the medical field. Another reason why I want to become a nurse practitioner is that I have always had a passion about helping others. With this job I can communicate with the patients in their times of intense physical and mental sufferings. For example, If my patients are scared of getting a surgery, I could educate them that surgery is not always a bad choice. I would explain the procedure of the operation in a way that they could fully comprehend.

I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.

Since my desired major is in the medical field, Radiology, which is a practice that will continue to be used in the future, I’m confident in obtaining a job in that field of study when I graduate from college. With more jobs available for me, I will have the chance to choose which one that will benefit me most in the long run. I will be able to determine where I would like to live and work due to the demand of my career choices. Being a college graduate will help seeking employment less burdensome, due to the number of jobs available to me.

I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.

After nearly losing my eye, nearly having my veins and arteries give out, and watching my father become unresponsive, I knew that I wanted to go into the medical field. This became a part of my very being, I strove and strive to learn as much about first aid and treatments as I am able. As it came time for me to think on a career path I was forced to think about the logistics of college pricing and efficiency; I decided on going through an EMT course, attempting to get a job to pay for the rest of my schooling as a nurse or search and rescue

Why do I want to become a physician? I grew up around doctors, my grandmother is a well know obgyn in the Dominican Republic and my grandfather is a anesthesiologist. Since I was a little girl I have been surrounded by the world of medicine. Since as long as I can remember I have always said that I wanted to

I am well-driven and focused when it comes to something I have a passion for and in my case, it involves the medical field. I believe that I am the type of person that sets goals and does not rest until I achieve them. The fact that I know this career takes a large amount of dedication and hard work only motivates me more. Although becoming an Anesthesiologist can be considered a career path which is difficult and time consuming, I know I can prove others wrong and show them that I can have such a career. This specific part of the medical field holds more than importance to me, it holds my childhood dream, and somewhat of a sentimental value.

When I graduate from high school I'd like to be a surgeon. I want to be a surgeon because it seems like a cool and interesting job. I think it would be an amazing experience to hold a human heart. I first saw this job and got really interested in it because of a T.V. show, Greys Anatomy. This career is important because it saves lives.

When I was growing up, multiple people questioned me about my future career, and others even pressured me into certain careers. All the influences I have had over time have formed my idea of the perfect occupation, that fits my personality and interests. The careers I have based my future life plans are a pharmacist or a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Both of these careers require a great deal of school and hard work. My decision of these careers was influenced by both of them being within the medical field, and also both focus on helping people.

I wish to attend the GERI Summer Residential for multiple reasons, including the experience I will earn in my area of interest, the challenge I will receive, the relationships I will make, and information I will learn. I have always been interested in taking all opportunities I can to separate myself from everyone else. I wish to achieve and be the best person I can be academically. Foremost, I work extremely hard in class maintaining a solid GPA of 4.0.
